"Longshot seems to have stretched his luck a bit too far, and set off a very, very unlucky chain of events that he feels responsible for fixing. Unlikely heroes are the most exciting heroes! It has been incredibly fun for me to start with the biggest most terrible threat for Longshot to face down and *then* figure out a way for him to realistically handle it. Well, as realistically as superhero stories get, anyway. There are plenty of very cool moments in the series, but I must say the way he saves the day at the end of the second issue is particularly badass. (And I don't feel like I'm bragging, because it was editor Jordan White who suggested it to me.) But I'm sorry, I cannot spoil it. You have to read it to enjoy it in full."

For more from Hastings, be sure to click on the link below to read the interview in full. What I found particularly interesting about this cover is that it's the second to feature the AMAZING Spider-Man (the other being the one for Inhuman). Could Marvel finally be planning to bring back Peter Parker this Winter? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts on this news in the usual place!

Who the hell is Longshot...
ABLEE337 - 7/22/2013, 3:28 AM
He is an Art Adams creation from the 80s.
I think he's from the Mojo world.
musashi - 7/22/2013, 3:37 AM
If you call it Longshot saves the Marvel Universe, aren't you giving away the ending??
davideodus - 7/22/2013, 3:38 AM

CorndogBurglar - 7/22/2013, 3:40 AM
Great, a story about the worst X-Character ever created saving the MU. Just what everyone wanted...
Superspecialawesomeguy - 7/22/2013, 3:40 AM

jimoakley666 - 7/22/2013, 4:31 AM
Good grief, Longshit and Spazzler are and always will be utter crap.

I like the cover but what's going on with Wolverine's bat-hat?
Starbrand - 7/22/2013, 5:14 AM
Longshot is one of my favorite B-Role X-Men.
Alfredo27 - 7/22/2013, 5:49 AM
if you ask who the hell longshot is you should be banned from this site.
Blackvoid - 7/22/2013, 5:52 AM

WakeUp - 7/22/2013, 5:53 AM

pepe - 7/22/2013, 5:53 AM

TelaVizion - 7/22/2013, 6:02 AM
How the hell do ppl not know who Longshot is?!?!?! Anyway, being both the son and father of Shatterstar is crazy. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? I'll be sure to finish that story arc and definitely will be reading this.
AlcoholicA - 7/22/2013, 6:11 AM
Liked him in 80's X-Men and current X-Factor as well. Will be reading this.
plasticman - 7/22/2013, 6:49 AM
Don't you people know what a search engine is? This is a so-so character from the X-Men's past. I wouldn't say he's a great character or a bad one. He has a unique storyline that is interesting. Nothing huge though. I'd rather have a new ROM series but that isn't going to happen.
plasticman - 7/22/2013, 6:50 AM
Oh, and I had the Forearm action figure, and yes...Rob is a jerk for how he dumbed down my childhood view of comics.
J0RELLC00LJ - 7/22/2013, 6:56 AM
Longshot is way cooler than Deadpool. The O.G. Mojoworld mutant.
HugeCapfan - 7/22/2013, 6:58 AM
IT'S ABOUT TIME SOMEONE SAVES THE MARVEL UNIVERSE!!!!

After mini-series, one shots and whatever, ...characters like Punisher, Cable, Hulk and even Fred Hembeck had been destroying the Marvel U for years. Sooo, I welcome someone, anyone, even Longshot (A forgotten character from a Wonky period of X-alternate universe/cities/communities/nations) to save the Marvel U!!!

What he's saving, ...anyone's guess, therein lies the fun!!!
astromerc - 7/22/2013, 7:33 AM
Who is Longshot? No would you morons think FOX/ Bryan Singers version of the X-Men is cool. LOL!
SpideyQuad - 7/22/2013, 7:38 AM
Longshot, to me, IS the 80s
mdwilliamson24 - 7/22/2013, 7:38 AM
Longshot is awesome. I had thought Marvel had forgotten about this character.
When he was originally used in the X-Men in the late 80's, Chris Claremont wrote him pretty good. Then some of the writers after him had no idea how to write him and he got phased out and replaced with this idiotic character named Gambit. Gambit became a kind of fan favorite, lord only knows why, and Longshot was rarely ever seen much after.
And, yes, Deadpool sucks too while we are at it.
DarthTesla - 7/22/2013, 8:00 AM
Oh, cool! I love Longshot.

Still have my old Longshot action figure with his rockin' mullet!
RodimusPryme - 7/22/2013, 8:02 AM
Longshot... ugh... bring back awesome characters like NIGHTCRAWLER... BTW Gambit is 100x better than Longshot because he's awesome and doesn't have the lame ass Superman mentality. And while we are at it Deadpool sucks way less than your mom.
RPD - 7/22/2013, 8:05 AM
Totally getting that. He was the inspiration for my most-famous Marvel Super Heroes character back in the day (Fortune). My character manipulated both good and bad luck, though, and Longshot only does good luck. Hope it's a good series...
Aeyan - 7/22/2013, 8:33 AM
@davideodus: He is NOT Captain Britain, and he has absolutely NOTHING to do with Excalibur.
MiVigilante - 7/22/2013, 9:27 AM
@ musashi no different from deadpool kills the marvel universe
DanteSparda - 7/22/2013, 9:51 AM
@musashi

If you are making a story with Longshot as the main character it doesn't matter as you can't take it too seriously, it may prove to be a lot of fun though.
Rhys - 7/22/2013, 10:40 AM
...apparently less people on this site read comics than I thought.

Anyway, Longshot's cool, but not "Saves the Marvel Universe" cool.

And am I the only one who thinks he looks like Ian Somerhalder.
dezdigi - 7/22/2013, 10:52 AM
Will he still look like an 80's butt rocker?
Namor - 7/22/2013, 11:12 AM
jesus, some of you don't know who Longshot is?
Mindbombable - 7/22/2013, 11:13 AM
Wow, got an immediate flashback of him fighting the Reavers. Hmmm, The whole MU huh?

Not expecting nor anxiously awaiting this... However, I would rather have a full Longshot and Dazzler story arc in X-men for a year than seeing Jubilee ever again.

@RodimusPryme
Nightcrawler IS back.
ParisSun - 7/22/2013, 11:28 AM
Longshot is Gambit lite and is the equivalent to DCs Booster Gold. What a terrible character to base a series around. I'm sure Singer will want to star him in a triology.

And when did Racer X become a Marvel character?
Crescendo - 7/22/2013, 11:36 AM
Finally got rid of his mullet! I'm intrigued with this new outing for LS.
RPD - 7/22/2013, 12:35 PM
Hard for Longshot to be "Gambit Lite" when Gambit came AFTER he did...
nld3 - 7/22/2013, 12:55 PM
Longshot never was a fan. I have to say who cares, really. These writers dig up some the oddest heroes no one seems o care about.
SoulAlone - 7/22/2013, 11:40 PM
Still better than Nightcrawler.
