Jaume Collet-Serra Once Again In Talks To Helm AKIRA
Work was moving along nicely on a live-action adaptation of Akira, but Warner Bros. put the project on hold back in 2012. Well, director Jaume Collet-Serra - who was attached before production stalled - is once again in talks to helm the movie. Read on for details!
Variety reveals that Jaume Collet-Serra is once again in talks to direct Akira for Warner Bros. In early 2012, pre-production was shut down so that the script could be worked on and the budget could be brought down. While all this was going on, Collet-Serra was attached to direct, but walked away from the project when the success of Unknown made him an in-demand director. It would ultimately be put on indefinite hold. However, while the studio have since considered other filmmakers - such as Catfish helmers Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, they were apparently "still in love with Collet-Serra’s vision, and sources say the director found time in his schedule as well as a new way to approach the adaptation that would meet the studio’s budget request." Whether or not Garrett Hedlund will still start is unknown. How do you guys feel about this news?
