Talking to Superhero Hype, Michael Rooker has hinted not only at some changes being made to the character of 'Yondu' for James Gunn's big screen adaptation of , but also hinted that there could be plans for more instalments of the franchise (hardly a surprise if this one is a success). "When I first got the role of Yondu, [director James] Gunn was like, 'Don't read any of the comics!' but It's beautiful stuff. Whenever you do a film of comic book characters and stuff you don't know how much you can show, you don't know how much is going to be brought out. Nowadays movies are done and they already have two or three others planned out. So stuff you do in this one, you ask "Why aren't we doing this?" and they say, "Well be patient!" What do you guys think of these comments? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts and feelings below!

Yondu is a visually striking character, i hope they don't wanter his look down too much. that Big Red Fin on his head and neck and costume is awesome.

'Don't read any of the comics!' ...I remember another director saying those exact words
TelaVizion - 8/31/2013, 3:15 AM
I don't think the fin is making it into this movie.... And I'm guessin Yondu gonna be slightly like Merill from TWD
TelaVizion - 8/31/2013, 3:16 AM
I think the "don't read" is only related to him and Yondu...

Other characters (main team) was cast as the characters are in the comics (except for Rocket)
Ace101 - 8/31/2013, 3:33 AM
cant wait to watch this movie. XD
Highflyer - 8/31/2013, 3:37 AM
I wonder why he doesn't want him to read the comics.
MightyZeus - 8/31/2013, 3:37 AM
Merle is bad ass. I'm hyped for this film.

TheDpool - 8/31/2013, 4:26 AM
Yeah I think the 'font read comics' part would be mostly so he didn't go trying to act out how he thought the character would be instead of how he should be fir the film.
NovaCorpsFan - 8/31/2013, 4:37 AM
The fin is still a possibility from the looks of it. I doubt it'll be massive but it might still be there.
NovaCorpsFan - 8/31/2013, 4:39 AM
He appears to be whistling in the teaser image... Perhaps he'll have some yaka-metal arrows. We might see more of the original Yondu than we think.

MOVIE....IS....GONNA....ROCK!!!
MexicanChinman - 8/31/2013, 4:56 AM
Hopefully the film makers have cool and crazy looking aliens and not just repainted humans.

"When I first got the role of Yondu, [director James] Gunn was like, 'Don't read any of the comics!' but It's beautiful stuff."

Sounds like he did his research despite what the director said.
ISeeStupidPeople - 8/31/2013, 5:13 AM
Yondu is the character I'm least interested in (never read the original run of Guardians of the Galaxy), but I'm a little concerned he was specifically told not to do any research on the character.

I hope they put the red fin on his head
MitchConner - 8/31/2013, 6:03 AM
He doesn't want him to read the comics because he is going to kill him off.

I am concerned for this movie now, I looked up Janes Gunn's filmography, he doesn't have one fresh movie except slither. ALL of his films flopped...not good news...and I want this to be good...I don't understand how Marvel trusted a guy with so many flops on his record wth a potential franchise like this...yikes
Jollem - 8/31/2013, 6:25 AM
gotg seems to have a better future than the hulk already?
SpoonWielder - 8/31/2013, 6:32 AM
@MitchConner

Have you actually seen any of his movies or are you just going by how they did at the box office?

A movie can still be a flop and be good. I've found that all his movies, while a little weird, are quite good. With the exception of that God-awful 'Movie 43' which Gunn isn't solely responsible for as he only directed one segment.
KaneRomita - 8/31/2013, 6:42 AM
It sounds like Rooker DID read some of the comics. I bet Gunn told him not to read any of the old GotG comics from the 70's (that feature Yondu) because it's completely different from their take on him. (those 70's comics aren't that good really.)

and how about Adam Warlock for the sequel..?
NovaCorpsFan - 8/31/2013, 7:03 AM
MrSundayNight

Yondu was the Hawkeye of the original Guardians. He was a spiritual guy, the tree hugger type. His arrows were made of a special metal from his home planet called Yaka Metal. The metal was sentient and responded to the tones of his whistling.

KaneRomita

Dude, really!? The original GotG stuff was absoloutely incredible! Earth Shall Overcome, The Origin of Starhawk, The Korvac Saga, to name some of the greats. But I agree, Adam Warlock for the sequel to GotG and have High Evolutionary as the villain.
NovaCorpsFan - 8/31/2013, 7:29 AM
Well done driver. Those were my thoughts on it since we saw Yondu was Quill's associate in that picture with the rapsheet.
DioFoRio - 8/31/2013, 7:53 AM
@TOAA and @FIRG...yeah I know yall say thay in jest , but Gunn at least read em. I don't give shit if the actors portraying said comic characters don't read comics or were ever into comics...But it helps when a director does have a passion for that particular medium..and it shows.
TheAbomination - 8/31/2013, 8:26 AM
THIS MOVIE IS GONNA RULE!!! Adam Warlock/Magus for GotG 2!!
NovaCorpsFan - 8/31/2013, 8:47 AM
Remy

The Badoon will be in this movie, that's for certain. But, if they were to show Yondu's homeworld getting attacked by the Badoon and whatnot, there will be no chance of the Original team being onscreen. Yondu is my favourite original Guardian (after Starhawk). I hope he's given justice in the movie. As for him being a weapon specialists, that's fine by me seeing as how he was essentially a weapon specialist in the first place.

I'd love if his gun used Yaka metal bullets, that'd make him even more badass.
HugoStrange87 - 8/31/2013, 9:08 AM
Love this guy. I hope he has a pretty big role in this.
NovaCorpsFan - 8/31/2013, 12:34 PM
Remy, I dunno about the flashbacks. It'd be cool to see the original guardians in a flashback but it takes from the potential of them having their own movie. Plus, the original Guardians are from the 30th century. If they were from the past in this film, the purists would be in uproar.
Praetorian - 8/31/2013, 5:04 PM
I think he said he was working with the bow a few months ago.
