THOR: THE DARK WORLD Set To Be China's Final Foreign Release Of 2013
Despite being the world's second biggest market - Iron Man 3 earned over $120 million there - China slated in only 34 non-Chinese movies for 2013. Well, in some extremely good news for the God of Thunder, Thor: The Dark World has taken the final slot! Read on for details.
With only 34 films slotted in for 2013, Thor: The Dark World has managed to nab the final spot, beating the likes of Ender's Game and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. According to The Wrap, "The Walt Disney Studio is believed to have secured the last available 2013 berth for "Thor: The Dark World," though a release date has not yet been finalized, according to an individual with knowledge of the situation. Disney had been pushing aggressively to get the superhero sequel into Chinese theaters this calendar year, and it looks like its efforts have paid off." It's still possible that the movies mentioned above (among others) could still secure a release before the New Year, but this is still a big win for the Alan Taylor helmed sequel. The People's Republic maintains a strict quota on the number of foreign films it allows each year, but the release of this movie in 3D and IMAX there should mean a big boost to its worldwide box office total.
Marvel’s "Thor: The Dark World" continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s "Thor" and "Marvel’s The Avengers," Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
