BOX OFFICE: THOR: THE DARK WORLD Already Outperforming THOR In Overseas Rollout

The Avengers effect is clearly working for Thor: The Dark World as well as it did for this summer's Iron Man 3, as early numbers for the sequel's international opening have shown that it is so far outperforming 2011's THOR. Hit the jump for further details!

Deadline has exclusively revealed that Thor: The Dark World (which opened yesterday in just a small handful of international territories like the UK and France) took a total of $8.2 million, a number which currently puts it well ahead of its predecessor. It will roll out across counties like Australia, Germany, Spain, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Russia, Mexico and Brazil, before being released in North America on November 8th. Disney and Marvel apparently see what they are calling "tremendous room for growth" at the box office from Thor's $450M worldwide, with one exec enthusiastically telling the site that, "All signs indicate we’ll have a much higher result. I can’t put a number on it, but by the time we report domestic numbers on November 10th, we should be in really great shape." How much do you guys think it will earn?

Marvel’s "Thor: The Dark World" continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s "Thor" and "Marvel’s The Avengers," Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

STARRING:

Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Tom Hiddleston as Loki
Anthony Hopkins as Odin
Natalie Portman as Jane Foster
Zachary Levi as Fandral
Ray Stevenson as Volstagg
Tadanobu Asano as Hogun
Jaimie Alexander as Sif
Idris Elba as Heimdall
Christopher Eccleston as Malekith

Not hard to believe, it was amazing how much better TDW is than Thor. There's a good chance it may well pass a billion dollars

@SageMode
1 Billion ? I hope so but I don't see it
I predict

Domestic 250 million

a clear and cut hit for Marvel

Sweet stuff!

Don't sequels always outperform the first? Didn't TDK beat out BB?
npamusic - 10/31/2013, 12:36 PM
screw who ever deleted my comment. screw you.

JERK.
JohnnyRoss - 10/31/2013, 12:36 PM
Definitely over 600 million worldwide.

It won't beat Catching Fire domestically, but it has a chance worldwide.
Amazing512 - 10/31/2013, 12:36 PM
If this movie actually breaks the billion dollar mark than Marvel is officially unstoppable. ..If they're not already.
npamusic - 10/31/2013, 12:37 PM
450 m over seas
450 m here.

900 m.

booyah!

California - 10/31/2013, 12:37 PM
I wish Marvel would do three films a year btw. Maybe a Marvel Knights movie that isn't as resource intensive.
ROMsnotdead - 10/31/2013, 12:38 PM
everyone should see that movie!
BaneSmash - 10/31/2013, 12:39 PM
I'm really looking forward the fight scenes! I'm going to hate myself while watching Kat Denning................ Ugh!!!! What can I say I can't stand her.
BatManiac - 10/31/2013, 12:39 PM
I hope this makes a ton of money because it was a great movie!
third3ye - 10/31/2013, 12:41 PM
I'm guessing MoS numbers, $600M-$700M.
CarlXVIGarfield - 10/31/2013, 12:41 PM
It deserves to make as much as Iron Man 3, if not more. But strong competition coming up.

As long as we get Thor 3 I'm happy!
126thst - 10/31/2013, 12:41 PM
Marvel wins AGAIN.

Before people chime in with the comments about how the numbers are inflated due to the post avengers bump let me just say.. This is how you do your job correctly. Marvel made solo movies that generated interest in all the characters, and that popularity helped make the Avengers the success that it was. Now those characters are walking away from the Avengers and seeing increased popularity. Thor might not hit a billion, but it's going to do extremely well.
BaneSmash - 10/31/2013, 12:42 PM
It's got 2 weeks to rake in the $$$ because catching fire will knock it out of the top spot.
TheWolverine08 - 10/31/2013, 12:42 PM
Didn't you say you'd use a DC avatar if Thor: The Dark World didn't hit a billion Sage?
jlabatman - 10/31/2013, 12:43 PM
jj72 - 10/31/2013, 12:47 PM
My guess is 600-650 Million.

@ California. Sequels don't always make more than the first one. (ie Red 2, Kick Ass 2)
Geeksiah - 10/31/2013, 12:48 PM
A billion is a lot.....
But 500 Million is guaranteed even if it's a turd, that's just what Avengers will do for you.

If it turns out to be as good as people are saying that's worth + 200 million easy.

Avengers 2 would have to be horrible to slow Marvel down Otherwise That's another 1 billion dollars.

BaneSmash - 10/31/2013, 12:49 PM
Competition going to be stiff, Like a priest at Sunday school.........
ALmazing - 10/31/2013, 12:49 PM
It seems like Thor has no real contenders for most of Novemeber, Ender's Game will be flop thanks to Orson Scott being a bigot, and Hunger Games doesn't come out until the 22nd. Number 1 in the US for possibly 3 weeks.
Neek2086 - 10/31/2013, 12:50 PM
^^^ it should make more than man of steel being a sequel and following the Avengers.. I say about 750-800 mil
SuperCat - 10/31/2013, 12:51 PM
Well done.
ParisSun - 10/31/2013, 12:53 PM
Catching Fire will definitely knock Thor: TDW down at the domestic box office. No so sure about internationally. The Hunger Games wans't a mega hit internationally so that title will be up for grabs. But CF should definitely beat TDW at the domestic box office.

I suspect both films will at least make in the high $300 millions domestically with CF to continue to over $400 million domestically. Overall, TDW could beat it with the international dollars added to the total.
BaneSmash - 10/31/2013, 12:55 PM
@almighty - Catching fire comes out 2 weeks after Thor! Midnight showing for Catching fire are selling out, It's going to be huge.
Havenless - 10/31/2013, 12:59 PM
How much did Man of Steel make?

I predict Thor makes at minimum 10M% more WW.

charlie2094 - 10/31/2013, 12:59 PM
Enders Game was actually pretty great, especially as an adaptation of the book. Some moments weren't so good, but overall it was good

Glad Thor is doing so well, haven't seen it yet. Was it ever not going to over perform? Thought that was a given :P

Though, with Catching Fire out soon, and Enders Game out (see how that performs) doubt Thor will manage to hit $1 Billion. I'd say probably $700-$800 once finished, which is an amazing result, considering the last had $450
Prime - 10/31/2013, 1:03 PM
I'm sure it might cake it too a billion, depending on Enders game and Catching Fire.
ALmazing - 10/31/2013, 1:05 PM
@BlackJack10, Ford is not the leading man he used to be, and people did not go see IM3 for Kingsley. The movie is not tracking well.

@BaneSmash, 2 weeks of number 1 then?
Dumegg - 10/31/2013, 1:07 PM
Shit, 700 million would be awesome. Thats almost twice
As much as the first one made. Pretty incredible
If you consider Thor is a lesser known comic to the
General audience.
knocturnalzen10 - 10/31/2013, 1:08 PM
so ur telling me the QT of the movie doesn't matter anymore for marvel just as long as it makes money ..........................? cause that's all i see the case on why marvel is better than DC .
i dunno if i missing something here
marvel comic QT is going to the shitter the more money these flims make ..........
