COMICS: Star-Lord Gets A Movie Makeover For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY FCBD Issue

Just as Bucky is getting a makeover in March's Winter Soldier: The Bitter March #2 to resemble his big screen counterpart, the cover of the Guardians of the Galaxy Free Comic Book Day issue has been altered so that Star-Lord's new look has been ditched in preference of the movie one.

The line between Marvel's movie and comic book universes continues to get more and more blurred as the cover for the Free Comic Book Day Guardians of the Galaxy special reveals a new look for Star-Lord. Despite the fact that the publisher made a big deal out of the new Steve McNiven designed costumes for the team when the title launched, it's clear that at least Star-Lord's has been ditched in preference of one which matches the suit which will be worn by Chris Pratt in the James Gunn helmed movie. How do you guys feel about this alteration? Sound off below!

In an all-new story by award-winning writer Brian Michael Bendis and acclaimed artist Nick Bradshaw, the Guardians of the Galaxy welcome Venom and Captain Marvel to the team for the launch of a not-to-be-missed death-defying epic! PLUS: Writer Dan Slott lays the foundation for 2014’s top secret Spider-Man event that will rock the Wall Crawler’s world forever!

yup, looks like the movie version, well done, well done.
Tyrus - 12/12/2013, 4:17 PM
Wow, that's EXACTLY like the film version (from what I've seen). It's way more accurate than the Avengers costume re-designs.
MrCBM56 - 12/12/2013, 4:17 PM
Is this real or fan art? Really no point for the change if real.
JordanKing - 12/12/2013, 4:21 PM
I get the "space-pirate" look they're going for, but his helmet looks really out of place. I personally preferred the look he had in the original concept art.
NovaCorpsFan - 12/12/2013, 4:22 PM

Does it look odd to anyone else?
ezio619 - 12/12/2013, 4:26 PM
i really love the movie costume,i think, the way hes character has been described, this rouge-ish look works for him imo, i realllllly want the guardians movie to be good, it can go either way,but i hope it goes the great movie way
Reasonnnn - 12/12/2013, 4:26 PM
HOOKED ON A FEELING
MrMartinMarvel - 12/12/2013, 4:30 PM
Why not just make the MCU the canon Marvel universe while we're at it?
kingtut - 12/12/2013, 4:31 PM
The movie costume is better. Period.
Jollem - 12/12/2013, 4:33 PM
movie lord

killzone lord

groot looks awesome
Battabing - 12/12/2013, 4:34 PM
LOL! That looks terrible!
Jollem - 12/12/2013, 4:34 PM
"Why not just make the MCU the canon Marvel universe while we're at it?"

i said this months ago and i'm pretty sure i had lil' monkeys attacking me for it
antoineflemming - 12/12/2013, 4:35 PM
@PantherX: I agree. Original movie concept art outfit was better.
Battabing - 12/12/2013, 4:35 PM
Captain Marvel looks stupid, too.
antoineflemming - 12/12/2013, 4:36 PM
Story-wise, I say keep movie and comic book separate, or, you know, make the MCU a different universe within the Marvel universe. Either of those. But as far as character/costume designs? Certainly adopt the MCU designs.
DrDoom - 12/12/2013, 4:40 PM
Can Ms. Marvel get her real name and costume back or do I have to wait a year when they'll inevitably cancel the Kamala Khan series
StarYeezus - 12/12/2013, 4:41 PM
It's already 1000x better than that generic, Mass Effect spacesuit rip-off they decided to give him. Still wish he had the helmet part of his mask, though.
SageMode - 12/12/2013, 4:41 PM
The movies influence comics both from DC and Marvel alike. Get over it. Lol.
Rhinoman - 12/12/2013, 4:42 PM
Why Venom, with all the extra attention on the GOTG and a potential sequel, I would atleast put in a character they could use. I like the idea of using desolate aliens. Use Elloe Kaifi

Does This Mean IronMan is not in GOTG?
Logan276 - 12/12/2013, 4:42 PM
Good! That black, blue and yellow costume is horrible. The costume he had at the beginning of the series was much better.
Omarvls - 12/12/2013, 4:42 PM
Every time I hear Guardians of the Galaxy I start to think how much of a gamble Marvel is taking and If it works LOOK OUT
we will see films like
Adam Warlock-Nova-Kree/Skrulls-The Imperial Guard-Korvac
CaptainObvious - 12/12/2013, 4:45 PM
Normally, I would be against the comics being a by-product of the movies. But considering how generic Star Lord has looked since Marvel revived the Guardians book, I'm glad this was done.
Jollem - 12/12/2013, 4:50 PM
sandman lord

Lord Shaper

ALmight - 12/12/2013, 4:52 PM
They should have created a cover with the movie version of all of them not just SL.
MrCBM56 - 12/12/2013, 4:52 PM
Sage

So when MoS came out, did Perry White turn black?

Did Bane mask change?

Did Krypton back story change?

I don't mind subtle changes but the suit change is unecissary.
MrCBM56 - 12/12/2013, 4:53 PM
I agree, why just change star lord? Not everyone else?
Godzillafart - 12/12/2013, 4:56 PM
Well, the earlier version of Star Lord did look silly as all get out, so I say it's a good change.
StarYeezus - 12/12/2013, 4:56 PM
@MrCBM56

It was necessary the day they gave him that shitty spacesuit.
nld3 - 12/12/2013, 4:57 PM
Ugh! I'm sick of Disney's changes. An overcoat really!
MrEko - 12/12/2013, 4:57 PM
I dig it.
SageMode - 12/12/2013, 4:57 PM
@mrcbm

what specific problem do you have with the costume change? Cant wait to hear this.......
TelaVizion - 12/12/2013, 4:58 PM
If it's real, its clearly only for the cover. Won't be on the pages inside.
Jollem - 12/12/2013, 5:00 PM
i think the movies have been a hit more than their comics have, so why not change it to the movie version? smart business move
SageMode - 12/12/2013, 5:00 PM
and actually Bane's new 52 look is inspired by his appearance from TDKR.
McNyagano - 12/12/2013, 5:01 PM

The change was necessary because it's much better than the old generic, awful Mass Effect-esque spacesuit rip-off they gave him.
SageMode - 12/12/2013, 5:04 PM
Fanboys hate change. They want everything to stay the same forever. Lol.
SageMode - 12/12/2013, 5:07 PM
Change is necessary. Get over it.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 12/12/2013, 5:08 PM
Great look. Star lords suit previously wasn't that good. The mask is great with the hair sticking out. I like it. And captain marvel looks good too. She has a forming mask which is cool. Oh I see the dc haters lol.
StarYeezus - 12/12/2013, 5:09 PM
@MAC

Best costume right there. Would've translated so easily to the big screen. Oh well, maybe in a sequel.
JJJameson - 12/12/2013, 5:10 PM
I like it. I used to be literally ecstatic for this film, then the mid credits scene in Thor 2 happened, and it was sort of a buzzkill for me. I loved the teaser trailer from the Comic-Con though, so I hope that will restore my confidence in Guardians of the Galaxy.
