Lauren Shuler Donner On The Possibility Of Channing Tatum Starring In A GAMBIT Movie

Not too long ago, 21 Jump Street and G.I. Joe: Retaliation star Channing Tatum revealed that he would love to play Gambit on the big screen. Now, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner reveals that she's on board with the idea and now plans to convince Fox to give it the green light...

After being played by Taylor Kitsch in the forgettable X-Men Origins: Wolverine, there's been no sign of Gambit on the big screen since. However, after Channing Tatum recently put himself forward for the role, Empire Online caught up with producer Lauren Shuler Donner and asked her for her thoughts on his comments. "I'm dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story. He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart." Could it happen? It certainly sounds like it may be, ahem, on the cards!

Whoa! I'd be okay with this, but I was hoping DC would line CT up for something. Despite what people say, he's a good actor beyond just being funny.
ezio619 - 1/30/2014, 8:17 AM

Omarvls - 1/30/2014, 8:27 AM
After the Horribleness of Fox's QuickSilver
I have no faith in FOX
GliderMan - 1/30/2014, 8:27 AM
Yeah I could see it but idk how they'd manage the continuity of it. Set it in the 80s!
ABH1979 - 1/30/2014, 8:28 AM
Make it a buddy comedy with Tatum's Gambit and Reynold's Deadpool... and no, I'm not joking.
Bl00dwerk - 1/30/2014, 8:28 AM
Sure...
CherryBomb - 1/30/2014, 8:28 AM
OMG please don't I'm necking you.
No one wants to see that.

I don't even wanna see Channing Tatum with more than an inch of hair of his head.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 1/30/2014, 8:28 AM
UGhh he is such a shitty actor. [frick] him
CherryBomb - 1/30/2014, 8:29 AM
Taylor Kitsch was a decent choice anyway.
alecwright - 1/30/2014, 8:29 AM
Horrible. Just horrible.

Tatum is good natured, meathead. He can act depending on the role but he's all wrong for character like gambit.
BackwardGalaxy - 1/30/2014, 8:30 AM
Do they want me to hate Gambit?
ManDeth - 1/30/2014, 8:30 AM
Gambit sucks. There's no market for a Gambit film. There are far more interesting X-Men than that.
Pasto - 1/30/2014, 8:31 AM

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

I remember backs in the days of X-men and X-2, when I was trying to convince people on other comic book movie message boards that the direction Bryan Singer have taken with these X-men movies, will lead them down a path to where they will be embarrassing for the fans and movie goers alike!

But these idiots have gone beyond even my worst expectations and is doing my work for me by making these idiotic decisions that will turn even the most die-hard fans of singer and his co-horts against them.
SuperCat - 1/30/2014, 8:33 AM
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK NO!

Whenever I have a good feeling about something, I rustle my jimmies for good luck.
GizmoEl - 1/30/2014, 8:36 AM
I don't think Gambit needs a stand-alone movie but at least let the guy appear as a major secondary character in all the films.
Nomis1800 - 1/30/2014, 8:36 AM
RELEASE THE TATUM!
rabid - 1/30/2014, 8:38 AM
Not the worst idea. At least he's southern.
JJJameson - 1/30/2014, 8:39 AM
Why God. Why.
CaptainComicBook - 1/30/2014, 8:40 AM
I'd be ok if they slimmed Channig down some. He's kind of too built for Gambit if you ask me. My only problem with Kitsch as Gambit was that he was too short and stalky. Ironically, I think he has the best body type and face for Wolverine. Someone lean and lanky like a Joel Kinnaman type would be more appropriate for Gambit I think.
TheFirstAvenger97 - 1/30/2014, 8:40 AM
Ugh no
TopCat89 - 1/30/2014, 8:40 AM
frick] NO!

Sure CT is superhero material, but not Gambit!!!

Laura doesn't know what the [frick] she is talking about....there is a video floating around where she said she has never read an X-Men comic.....this is pure "Grab any good looking/big name actor" and cast him.....this is pure greed, throw out any X-men movie, without care for the fans!!!!

Hate to imagine what it'd turn out like!
CaptainComicBook - 1/30/2014, 8:41 AM
But then again suggest Joel Kinnaman for everything (NIghtwing, Iron Fist) etc.
Ineedrevelation - 1/30/2014, 8:41 AM
Oh Shuler Donner you can go to hell right [frick]ing now!!!!
Spidey10 - 1/30/2014, 8:42 AM
@Nomis well sir if you know the future how can we stop it lol
deepee3 - 1/30/2014, 8:42 AM
Hey, I like Tatum as much as anybody else. He's a better actor than he gets credit for. But Fox has got to stop just pulling X-Men related crap outta their asses like a bothersome hemorrhoid or something!

Sheesh!
jlabatman - 1/30/2014, 8:43 AM
I like Gambit, but no to Channing Tatum and no to Gambit having his own movie!
TheDarkKnightRises - 1/30/2014, 8:46 AM
Been saying this from day one, after seeing 21 Jump Street..... Tatum for Shazam!!!

Bring him in the second phase of DC movies!!
supermarioworldE - 1/30/2014, 8:48 AM
Further shaming the name Donner.
Nomis - 1/30/2014, 8:48 AM
@ Spidey10 - Send Kitty Pryde back time to 1999 to stop the filming of the first X-men movie. ;)

* For those who don't know...it was actually Kitty Pryde (Not Wolverine!) who went back in time to correct the past in the comic version of Days of the Future Past *
sinsear912 - 1/30/2014, 8:48 AM
nomis explain what is so bad about the xmen and x2?
