COMICS: Marvel Spoils SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN Ending/AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Status Quo?

Marvel have released a couple of new teaser images for Original Sin, but the blurb which accompanies the cover featuring Peter Parker may reveal the outcome of Superior Spider-Man and the status quo of Amazing Spider-Man. Those of you hoping Otto Octavius is gone for good may be disappointed...

A lot of fans suspected that Marvel and writer Dan Slott wouldn't be getting rid of Otto Octavius at the conclusion of Superior Spider-Man, and it appears as if that has been confirmed in a new piece on Original Sin over at Marvel.com. While talking about Spider-Man being one of the suspects in the hunt for the murderer of The Watcher, the site adds: "Does Otto Octavius have enough of a hold on Spider-Man that he could have committed the deadly deed?" It sounds as if the newly resurrected Peter Parker will still be sharing a body with Doctor Octopus, presumably in the same way that a part of Peter's consciousness has been trapped in Otto's mind. It's worth noting that the solicitation for issue #2 of Amazing Spider-Man states, "That thing that freaked you out last issue? There’s more on that. The return of you-know-who? There’s MUCH more on that." So, will the villain be fighting for control, influencing Peter, or working with him? Regardless of which it is, it's unlikely to please fans who were looking forward to REALLY having the Amazing Spider-Man back. What do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts on this news in the usual place!

Hey Josh, it looks like our Twitter battle payed off.
DEVLIN712 - 2/24/2014, 2:30 PM
Nice find Josh, I'm really hoping that this new ASM run doesn't fall o it's face...
glasspleiades - 2/24/2014, 2:31 PM
also, i suppose this is my rare opportunity to say 'first'.

Instead ill say that, I WAS a fan of this doc spidey thing, but its gone on too long. the goblin wars was a great way to say goodbye to a very cool run and get pete back in the body. watching him dealing with all the chaos he's left with is great classic spiderman too. pity.
WeaponX93 - 2/24/2014, 2:32 PM
Gonna miss Superior Spiderman
dethpillow - 2/24/2014, 2:33 PM
yeah, there's not gonna be a lot of happy Slott haters when the title changes back.

already, without even this, in the comic there's been pretty clear indications that things are more complicated than some people were hoping for.

Peter's just recently had to do something that will change the makeup of his character, who Peter Parker is, basically, what that can possibly mean in light of all that's happened. and the last few issues have been shockers for me on that level.

I can only imagine when people who aren't gradually understanding this idea unfold, when they suddenly hear about what's going on. ha.
Superior has been such a great run in my opinion, I say keep Slott on as long as he's hitting like this, for sure.
dethpillow - 2/24/2014, 2:35 PM
@glasspleiades - no Peter's gonna come out of this real soon as being in charge of his body. it's not like it's continuing to go on the way it is.

no. Peter's back.
it's just a matter of what that means, exactly.
dethpillow - 2/24/2014, 2:36 PM
it's gonna be messy and not be the victorious return and firing of Dan Slott that a lot of people here would like to see.

he's gonna be dealing with Doc Ock for years to come I imagine.
Malcopunch - 2/24/2014, 2:39 PM
My guess it will be like Ling and Greed from Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood..they both have the same body but they both have their own personalities.
DarkSuperman - 2/24/2014, 2:41 PM
Superior Spider-Man was the most fun spidey has had in years outside of Ultimate.
rebellion - 2/24/2014, 2:44 PM
screw it. if it's not 100% parker i'm still not reading.
mctrinket - 2/24/2014, 2:49 PM
So he's gonna basically be old school Firestorm then?
GliderMan - 2/24/2014, 2:50 PM
They need to just let Doc Ock die altogether and never bring him back. Let someone actually die for once.

Actually, what they need to do is reboot Marvel Comics. These comics are a joke of a continuity and honestly there's no point to these stories because they never have any kind of lasting affect. Reboot.
shangho - 2/24/2014, 2:50 PM
I've never been happier that I gave up on Spidey when Slott took over writing......
dethpillow - 2/24/2014, 2:51 PM
recently too, i've been reading the titles that i don't actually buy and never really had access to just take in before. and wow, there is so much pure terrible writing going on at Marvel right now. I was actually totally shocked at the silly junk that they're putting out. I didn't know cuz i saw enough to just know that i wasn't gonna buy these titles, but even great writers like Jason Aaron, Wolverine and X-Men is kinda embarrassingly bad. and there's just this trend to insipid shit that they pass off as stories. not even in every case being "awful", but I just don't even see the point of a lot of it.

and it's made me respect and appreciate what Slott does with Spidey even more. i mean I've been reading crap like the new Nova book, and some X-Men books and stuff like that.

i loved Fraction/Allred's FF, but i'm wondering if it wasn't for Allred's art if I'd see it as a crap book. makes me wanna go back and reassess it. but Slott is absolutely killing us with the richness of what he's writing. that, Hawkeye, Spencer's Secret Avengers, Superior Foes, stuff like Heist, a lot of Hickman/Spencer's Avengers stuff, especially New Avengers, both Daredevil books, the unfortunately cancelled Sif's Journey Into Mystery, Thor, some of the Ultimate stuff going on... all that keeps Marvel true and in good shape. and i haven't gotten around to really soaking all of the titles yet. but man they have some really stinkers they're putting out it seems like.

i guess it's always been like that, but recently i haven't been as much attention to the stuff i don't pay attention to.

so far, also, new Winter Soldier run looks like it might turn out being pretty cool, but it's annoying in the sense that i'm conscious of Winter Soldier dropping soon in cinemas and it's very much obviously recasting the character as something in line with the movie for a hoped synergistic boost. so that kinda annoys you, but the issue i read was pretty cool.

Superior Foes of Spider-Man and Secret Avengers i think are the two big overlooked titles going on. both are written by Nick Spencer and this guy is just killing it now too. good stuff.
CaptainObvious - 2/24/2014, 2:59 PM
Just go away already.
dethpillow - 2/24/2014, 3:09 PM
right on, Sid. we gotta keep Marvel in line. the stuff that sucks worst right now, there's like this glib unattention paid, like they think they can get away with anything, and there's too much of the tone of the MCU trying to creep it's way in.

MCU is cool for movies, it's a great way to pull things off in movies, but comics have always been and should always be intelligent and be willing to go a little nuts. i forgot to mention Young Avengers, which was a high point for me of last year. Gillen does some wacky stuff on Iron Man too, and i don't know what i think of it yet, but at least it's not idiotic. so hopefully Loki turns out being just as interesting at the very least.

that's all I want, not even to like every title that Marvel puts out, but just not to have to see total crap in the guise of a comic book out there.
19TheWebbedWonder62 - 2/24/2014, 3:26 PM
Just give us back peter !! And only peter !!!! Is that so hard !?!?!?
TheSavorings - 2/24/2014, 3:40 PM
Clone Saga 2.0, this sounds like another Hot Mess in Spidey canon. Why's it so hard to write Spidey comics for more than 2-3 years without botching it?
Growler - 2/24/2014, 3:43 PM
Is that even the real Spider-Man?

You only see half his face, it could be someone else entirely.

Stranger things have happened.
arsonjack - 2/24/2014, 3:56 PM
lol I'd hate to be a spiderman fan.
TheDpool - 2/24/2014, 4:01 PM
I'm kinda let down by this I was hoping the killer would be someone new or even someone we haven't seen in a while.
mctrinket - 2/24/2014, 4:47 PM
Why kill The Watcher? Pointless.
lexcorp - 2/24/2014, 4:49 PM
@thatcoldblackcloud why are you hating on forever evil......you hater lol
JJJameson - 2/24/2014, 5:00 PM
Dethpillow is one of my favorite posters around here and I couldn't agree more. I want Dan Slott writing the Amazing Spider-Man forever, he has been doing one of my all time favorite runs with the character and I never want to see him go. Superior Spider-Man was awesome and I don't think there is a more talented and passionate comic book writer than Dan Slott when it comes to Spider-Man. Can't wait for the Amazing Spider-Man's return!!
Atumbem - 2/24/2014, 5:05 PM
Stupidest storyline ever! Now it's even cornier.
JJJameson - 2/24/2014, 5:07 PM

“To do that for a solid year of my life, that’s the hardest thing I’ve had to do — to look small children in the eye at a convention and lie to them,” says Slott. “One of them with an honest-to-God Little League uniform and a quivering lip. Inside, part of me was dying.”

He did, however, cave under the pressure when he met actor Andrew Garfield on the set of “Amazing Spider-Man 2.” After the actor who plays Parker on the big screen expressed his shock over the death of the beloved character, Slott admits he dropped some secretive hints.

“(Parker’s coming back) just in time, fancy that, for a major Spider-Man motion picture,” quipped Slott. “It seems uncanny. It was very nice for Sony to schedule the movie around the story.”

blkchi - 2/24/2014, 5:44 PM
Man that british kid really irks me he looks like a surfer dude not spiderman I would love to punch ..nah he just rubs me wrong his acting sucks
HotRodFan899 - 2/24/2014, 5:59 PM
Let me guess, it means that Otto will be in there, fighting for control, then when Peter finds out, he'll go in for a "Otto-Ectomy" in #9, but instead of deleting Ock, Ock will regain control and delete Peter for good. Slott and Marvel will laugh, we'll all be mad, and people will be desperately trying to convince themselves that it's a great story, even thought it's just awful.

I wanted Peter back, but if it's just going to be teasing an eventual Superior Spider-man redux nonsense, count me out. We've already seen that story, I'm not sitting through it again. I'm just going to save my money that I spent on comics.
HotRodFan899 - 2/24/2014, 6:02 PM
@TheSavorings

I know right. If Slott can't keep up spider-man without having to do lame gimmicks like killing Pete or swapping his brain with a super villain, than he should step aside and hand the reins over to a new writer.

When Geoff Johns was done with Green Lantern (after an epic run), he stepped aside when he had tapped the well and handed it over to a new writer. Slott should do the same. He obviously has run out of stories for Peter Parker, so it's time to step aside and let Mark Waid, Matt Fraction, or someone equally as good take over.
osideous - 2/24/2014, 6:57 PM
look at that young fat danny devito look like [frick] dan slott, he sucks. remove his ass. still won't care until peter parker is back fully.
osideous - 2/24/2014, 6:59 PM

FlixMentallo21 - 2/24/2014, 7:07 PM

ManCalledSting - 2/24/2014, 7:59 PM
Superior has been a great run, and Slott has been done a great job.
SkinnyOne - 2/24/2014, 8:31 PM
This means nothing they have a captain America one as well
Jefferys - 2/24/2014, 9:35 PM
I love the people who complain about the run of Superior are the ones who clearly don't read it. Before all of this, Spider-man was a bore. Seriously, I stopped reading Amazing because it's nothing like the Spider-man I had intended to read. He had it all and his main problems was girlfriend problems. But when Superior came and after that first comic, I was hooked unbelievably. I don't really want Pete to come back, even if it's destined to happen. Please let Pete's return be small.
silverageguy - 2/24/2014, 9:55 PM
Looks like there's no reason for me to start buying Spiderman any time soon. I dropped this mess at One More Day and haven't picked up an issue since. In the words of Ben Grimm...."what a revoltin' development!"
