BOX OFFICE: CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Already Closes In On $100 Million In China
Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been a huge hit in China, and the Marvel Studios sequel is already closing in on $100 million in the now vital box office territory. However, Wally Pfister's Transcendence has also failed to make an impact there, just as it did in North America this weekend...
The past few years have seen China become a vital market for Hollywood blockbusters, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier is no exception as it is already closing in on the $100 million mark after just 17 days of release. The exact number is $98.27 million according to The Hollywood Reporter, and part of why its worldwide cume is just days away from passing $600 million. The Marvel Studios sequel earned $18 million in China this past weekend, beating Rio 2's $12.05 million and Johnny Depp's Transcendence opened with $10.65 million in third place, just $1 million shy of its North America debut. That may not be a good sign of things to come for the movie, as Warner Bros. were surely hoping that it would perform better overseas than it did at home.
