Of course people will moan. No doubt you'll all moan about David Slade's Daredevil and the new Fantastic Four. Same as everyone moaned about Punisher War Zone. I remember all the harsh stuff people were saying about First Class and the only reason that wound up unscathed is because it was clearly an above par comic book movie. Normally it's too dark, too comedic, not enough action, too much violence, they didn't respect 70 years of backstory to the letter. If a studio listened to you lot none of these would ever get made so sit the [frick] back and enjoy the fact that we live in a time where this stuff is even possible.

Yeah I would have given an "It was OK" but the directing was terrible. Who the hell thought it was a good Idea to let the directors of Crank 1/2 and Gamer (one of the shittiest films ever) direct this?

i loved it. effects and action were amazing. especially liked how the ghost rider laughed maniacally when he did demented things. i guess i was the one they made this movie for, i seem to be in the minority.
it was a lotta fun, but i have a sick twisted sense of humor. but hey, i liked the first ghost rider, and crank 1 and 2 also. i like nick cage, even if he isn't exactly the ideal johnny blaze. looked like the actors were enjoying themselves a lot too.
to be fair, of the five of us that saw it i was the only one that really loved it, 3 of us liked it and one hated it.
so i dunno if id recommend it to everyone but i sure enjoyed it!

The effects were awesome, it's too bad the frenzied style of Neveldine/Taylor got in the way so often.

This wasn't even mindless fun. Mindless fun is something like Transformers. Apart from the design of GR - the writing, directing, and acting was terrible. It also had some of the silliest moments of any superhero movie (spinning GR scene & Nic Cage freak out scene) and it had the worst villain in superhero movie history. Like seriously? The power of decay??? Plus the devil was so lame in this film. I hope the directors never come near any film again. And this is coming from someone who doesn't hate all "weaker" superhero films like FF & DD. Thats how bad it is.

At least the directors of GR2 took some chances with the marerial and at least created a visually interesting film with some good action scenes, as opposed to that bland paint by the numbers first movie which had the worst action scenes of any movie I've ever seen.

I'm sorry to say it, but this is about the best Ghost Rider movie we are likely to see.
Ghost Rider isn't the kind of character and doesn't use the kind of story that lends itself to a big budget Hollywood feature.
Of course they're going to dial down the violence, and more of the fantastical story elements. They were already facing a big enough financial risk even making this movie without including all the outlandish character traits and plot points. Bearing that in mind, and considering how panned the first one was, so you can't complain that 'Oh, he wasn't tearing criminals faces off and riding his bike up Satan's asshole. I am outraged.'
If you're a Ghost Rider fan; go see the movie, and enjoy the fact that something you love is being transposed into a new medium.

Ghost rider is a bad-ass skeleton that rides a flaming motorcycle and blows shit up. If that stuff's in the movie, win. Why would you even go see this movie is you were looking for directing and plot and character and stuff? This isn't that movie and you really should've known that going in.

I saw it. It sucked. And it's not like I'm just whining about it not being accurate or something, the movie actually did suck. I mean, have you seen the reviews??? And I usually don't pay attention to reviews, but they were actually pretty accurate. It got like 15% on RT. Just my opinion though....

I think cage isn't the person to play the part. I think the last GR was better, there really wasn't any interesting action scenes. I think GR needs to be handled like Blade 1 and 2 . A little less super hero and a little more horror movie. I have bought every comicbook movie, but it would be hard for me to buy this.

I agree, ghost rider seems better in a rated r film. Look at blade, it was rated R and they didnt hold back, except blade 3. It went to the comic style. Grounded as possible works and that means ghost rider for rated R. Screw the little brats I know they want to make it for merchandise but it's ghost rider, not spiderman.

I didn't even bother to see this movie because it reaked of a studio comicbook cookie cutter cash in. I'm going to coin that phrase, lol. What I mean is that studios look at characters like Ghostrider as second rate superheroes. They hire directors like Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor who have brought us such classics as The Gamer, Crank and Crank 2: High Voltage and give us a well known celebrity: Cage. They also hire a couple of completely unheard of cheap television writers who are looking for their big brake. Now it's not that I don't believe in giving relatively unknown directors and writers a chance to shine but even they know what this is. A stepping stone to better more challenging opportunities. and let's face it, Cage just needs the work these days after going bankrupt and losing a couple of his mansions, not to mention a castle. They tell these guys, give us a big action movie and completely overwhelm the audience with fire and explosions. Let's not make it memorable because that would cost more money, thus less profit. We will just market the shit out of the movie instead and people will pile in to see it the first week bofore they even realize it's terrible and with any luck we will double our investment, which they usually do. It's a cash cow and you would be dumb not to milk it for all it's worth. I guess this makes me sound pretty cynical but I have seen one to many terrible comicbook movies and you start to sense one coming long before it has released after a while. I am appreciate to live in a period where these sort of movies are being made, but I am also very tired of having high expectations based on movie trailers which are designed to make the movie appearing more interesting than it is and then feeling like an idiot for wasting $10 on a movie ticket on something I wouldn't watch again if it was playing on FX at 1am. But that's just me.

@loudnoises-i completely agree
This movie was down right horrible, casting sucked. Writing sucked and too much special effects, I mean spider-man 3 was better then this and I wasnt a big fan of spider-man 3, I can handle minor changes but this was down right discracefull and was only made to make money but it backfired.
Message to sony, you suck at making CBM'S just give up and they rights revert back to marvel where they belong so we can have decent films for once............10 bucks TASM is gonna be just as bad.......fox this goes for u too

I am honestly shocked at those of you defending this film. It was a trainwreck. Ok people, it's time to stop defending a film simply because it's a comic book film. Seriously, this movie was the worst film I have ever seen largely due to Nic Cage's acting. Stop deceiving yourselves and admit that it was terrible.

I was really looking forward to seeing this, had high hopes for it. I'm probably one of the few who actually liked the first one so I was excited for Spirit of Vengence. Ghost Rider looked great visually but was just too quirky with his funny body language. Johnny Blaze was portrayed as some mental case instead of a man tormented by a demon. There was no cohesion to the story, it was poorly written and directed. I am very disappointed in this film.

I voted "It was Ok" but seriously I was right on the lone between that and "It was awful". What works in this movie really works, ex: Ghost Rider looked absolutely amazing and the action scenes were a lot of fun. But man, the directors really [frick]ed this one up. They added so much retarded shit that I was constantly rolling my eyes. I would have loved to see the same script directed by someone else. I think reviews would have been MUCH better.

Everybody needs to quit complaining about how
Ghost Rider needs to be an R rated film. Just because the character and material is dark and gritty doesn't mean it has to be R. Look at Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, their dark and gritty but their still PG-13. I liked how they changed the look of Blackheart for the first Ghost Rider because it then wouldn't look good at all on film. I like that they changed Blackout's powers to make him more of a threat for Ghost Rider. I didn't care much for the first Ghost Rider but Spirit of Vengeance is a TRUE Ghost Rider film. As I stated in another article and shit, I actually am writing my own Ghost Rider trilogy. Through out the films the villains in the trilogy as a whole are Scarecrow and Snowblind for the first film, Deathwatch and Blackout for the 2nd and for the last movie: Centurious. I will actually be upset if they decide to remake Ghost Rider after the new one that came out because I would love to see a trilogy out of the franchise they already started.

I really enjoyed the action scenes and the CGI in this I thought it was good for what it had to offer,But then again Ghost Rider is one of my favorite characters,On the other side of things not enough Ghost rider and Nic cage had a few bad moments that could have really ruined the film and yes the villian could have been better as well, but then anyone that really knows ghost rider from the comics knows they never really give Ol' GH The respect and real talent he deserves anyway..it just seems like they can never really get Ghost rider or Punisher right,They should have went the blade route with this one but theres marketing for younger kids involved and they obvilously got greedy in the end..

Though I don't think it's the worst, I can't even think of a worse one...wait, Stan Lee's Lightspeed might qualify. I WILL watch the first Ghost Rider again from time to time, and if I have the need for a sequel, I guess I'll just have to cut a few of Moreau's scenes in with some of the action scenes and end with the Ghost Rider turning into the angel of Justice with the blue flame. So, about 3-5 minutes at most and I'll have everything I ever want to see of this movie again. I'm still trying to get the image of a superhero that's moving all weird like he's high on METH out of my brain.
And just so I'm clear, Fabster360 thinks Nick Cage did a better job than Ryan Reynolds, Moreau was better than Sinestro (a tie at best), and the Devil was better than Clancy Brown's Parallax? Not to mention the very few cool effects in this were better than Green Lantern's uniforms, constructs, and Oa? .....ok, interesting.
