@Maximus101: careful, the haters will eat you! don't make eye contact..
forthesakeofnow - 6/11/2012, 11:45 AM
looked really pretty but was really lacking in places for me.

if your going to do a big ideas and themes sci fi film (like 2001) its best to do it when a handful of characters and a very "simple" plot at face value.

doing a big ensemble piece while trying to develop a few characters while playing with this big ideas, in this film at least, is spreading yourself a bit too thin.

but like i said, looked pretty and fassbender was great

weirdly would have been better if it allowed itself to not have to be "smart"

alien worked well because the idea was purely that of any old stalk and slash movie, expect it was in space with an alien rather than in a house with a guy with a knife, so they could do a bit more interesting stuff with the few characters there were
FilmsFan - 6/11/2012, 11:47 AM
@Maximus101 I agree!!
Prometheus is Best of the Year, yet... & for me Very close 2nd is Avengers!
I've seen it twice as well... Will see once more! Or even twice... Ive got UNLIMITED card!
MartianSupermanhunter22 - 6/11/2012, 11:52 AM
Best movie this year so far. It left me with questions and countless random outburst of praise to my wife about it. Good questions, ones that will definitely make me watch the sequel.
FilmsFan - 6/11/2012, 11:53 AM
@forthesakeofnow Only reson I loved it more than u probably is cuz I really had enough of Battleship/Transformer/Warth shit!
& I'm huge SciFi fan!

Only scene in Prometheus that was idiotic for me was (Spoiler)... The two scientists left alone one!! & when he's bloody trying to have fun with that ALEIN creature, it's like a man sees a Snake & tries to pet it like a cat!! I mean that was pretty stupid!!
& they could've avoided it by letting them run away from it & then it popped out on another side & jumped on them... Simple!

& FASSBENDER & Idris Elba made me love it too!!
DiLusso - 6/11/2012, 11:55 AM
I wanted to love it. It was just ok, good efffects the story was quite boring. I thought the secrecy before it came out was because it was gonna be awesome, turns out there really was not much to say about it. but then I saw aliens last night and it made Prometheus look like driving miss daisy
forthesakeofnow - 6/11/2012, 11:58 AM
@FilmsFan

ah see i didnt see battleship and even though i know the transformers films are crap i get some sort of weird catharsis out of seeing them lol

im a big sci fi as well

elba's accent was awful in places which is insane considering he is a f*cking god at american accents. i wish they just got him to do stringer's voice rather than a wierd southern one.

forthesakeofnow - 6/11/2012, 12:00 PM
@DoubleD

basically the space jockey in alien was a one shot question that i was fine with not being answered all these years/at all.

they decided to answer that one shot with 2 hours that still didnt manage to really address it well and aparently another 2 movies...

which ill watch
TheBigBoss917 - 6/11/2012, 12:10 PM
Cool movie, my gripe is i felt the old Weyland Shit felt kind of out of place when he got killed i really couldn't care less
AstroXombie - 6/11/2012, 12:19 PM
I enjoyed it. Actually, I really enjoyed it, but I'll be the first to admit that there are SEVERAL plot holes and I left the theater with more questions than answers.
Laird4Life - 6/11/2012, 12:41 PM
It was a good movie. Little gory for my taste, but goes with the genre. We were lied to about the film not being an alien prequel. I liked that it was. It was a well told story and leaves room for another story leading up to Alien, but doesn't need one.
Danbojohnj - 6/11/2012, 12:48 PM
I'm looking forward to the longer cut.
Bojac - 6/11/2012, 1:02 PM
I had such a good time seeing that movie. I just don't understand all the hate, I just don't.
Boogie138 - 6/11/2012, 1:13 PM
@DoubleD: its time for your nap. you hate it. i got it. don't mind you hating, but reposting the same sh!t over and over is boring.

add to the debate if you choose to hate!

@MartianSupermanhunter22: did your wife see it as well and if so what did she think about it? mine really liked it and its hard to get a female perspective on this site (i am still convinced most 'ladies' here are really just dudes with no life, i.e people like me)
zware - 6/11/2012, 1:17 PM
Terrible film. Yes visuals where great, and so was Fassbender.... But dear god pathetic attempt at horror and an even more pathetic attempt at a philosophical Space film. Merely addressing questions doesn't give you the right to say its intelligent they didn't even attempt to answer any of them. The characters were bland and uninteresting not to mention the big reveal of the "engineer" at the end was a slap in the face to the audience as he was nothing more than a "movie monster." [frick] you Ridley Scott... Oh and I didn't even mention the multitude of plot holes the film had... Really disappointing hoping it would be great.
MartianSupermanhunter22 - 6/11/2012, 1:47 PM
Boogie- my wife loved the movie. Although she's getting tired of me talking about.
TheBatman50k - 6/11/2012, 1:49 PM
I really enjoyed the movie, I would give it "four stars". I really liked the ideas behind the film and how you saw the birth of an early version of the xenomorph I also thought Naomi Repace and Michael Fassbender were good but Fassbender was spectacular, trying to play an android copying Peter O'Tooles style from Lawrence of Arabia. Fassbenders was super androgynous in this film and almost part of "queer" culture as well. Sure it had its hokey parts but I think this was a very powerful film in the long run.
nhalden - 6/11/2012, 1:50 PM
It was just flat. The film didn't do anything to advance an independent movie or franchise. This was an "Alien" movie. The problem is that there weren't any Alien's well...you know what I mean.

The film didn't produce the mystery or discovery that was implied or promised...instead they all run around in a "cave" or the ship they came in.

The pedigree of this film is what makes it "good"...not great. This is another great starting point for Alien and or a sequal to Prometheus. At the end of the day it was uninvolved, cliche' and flat. NO SUBSTANCE.
MediaMan - 6/11/2012, 1:54 PM
Lame lame lame lame lame. The script has massive plot holes. Just to discuss them all would take pages.

It wasn't horrible, just, well, lame.

I agree with those who say it will drop off at the box office.
Scabsallover - 6/11/2012, 2:06 PM
I agree w/ Maximus. Best movie so far this year.
Boogie138 - 6/11/2012, 2:13 PM
@MartianSupermanhunter22: lol yeah they can do that

@TheBatman50k: your comment about david being androgynous, and almost queer culture is dead on. why didn't i see that before?!
Modifiious - 6/11/2012, 2:26 PM
I thought it was a great movie. The suspense when they were exploring the tunnels had me on the edge of my seat and the story kept me intrigued from beginning to end. I thought the performances were brilliant, but I would have really liked to see more of the captain. A great mix between horror and sci-fi in my opinion.
masterhater - 6/11/2012, 2:59 PM
Best movie I have ever seen! I could not stop thinking about it for two days after!
graveyardtramp - 6/11/2012, 3:03 PM
I thought it was an 'almost' great sci-fi film, mared by some awfully-written (and acted) characters and a rather lazy third act. Fassbender and Rapace were the stand-outs, Theron was wasted and the make-up on Pearce looked wholly unconvincing. Had a couple of good creepy moments but the use of the 'operation machine' (or whatever it was called) was telegraphed so far in sdvance...it's not the film I was hoping it would be but I would still give it a solid 3.5/5. I saw it flat and am considering seeing it again in 3D.
onlybroken - 6/11/2012, 3:06 PM
i really liked it, yes the story was a bit weak in places, but it was visually stunning and the acting more than made up for the narrative failings.

just need to get the fella to come see it with me now... could be tricky... :/
BFGLOOM - 6/11/2012, 3:07 PM
Movie was good but DAMON LINDELOF ruined it with his ideas and rewrite....The script didn't make sense and answered NOTHING. We didn't even get motives for major things the characters choose to do! DO NOT BRING HIM BACK as a writer for the second film... We already know that it will more akin to Aliens then Alien. Shaw and David travel to the homeworld or LV 426 and we'll see more jockeys and get the answers we didn't in Prometheus.
CrispySeaplanes - 6/11/2012, 3:22 PM
The only thing that bugs me is Rapace giving herself a C-section then running and jumping around like an Olympic athlete the rest of the movie. How did she not pop her staples and have her guts spill all over the ground? I really liked the movie a lot and voted for I loved it. Wish there was another option between ok I guess and loved it tho.
Macksimus - 6/11/2012, 4:04 PM
I thought it was very good; it really makes you think. They don't come right out and say what happened/is happening; you have to piece the puzzle together yourself.

CoolantTech - 6/11/2012, 4:18 PM
Awesome Movie, people are still taking it for what it is not... a very great misunderstood movie of our time
hammerofharpel - 6/11/2012, 5:24 PM
The movie was pure junk. 'grand themes' -- not really. None of the themes were ever developed or explored. The film felt like a series of ideas that were strung together with chewing gum.

The script needed about 10 more rewrites. I've already explained why in another post and I won't repeat myself. BAD FILM.
cgrass5150 - 6/11/2012, 5:45 PM
Boring, convoluted, overrated, drivel. Potential for excellence was there. Unfortunately the story didn't gel, there was no real horror or intensity (compared to "Alien"), characters were bland, and there were plot holes big enough to drive a Mack truck through.

PS: CGI "Space Jockeys" were underwhelming and disappointing. Wish Ridley would have stuck with the original Space Jockey "creature" look from "Alien" instead of making them nothing more than large, muscular, milky-white, human-looking bald dudes in spacesuits. Expect approx. 50% drop-off in ticket sales by 2nd weekend.

@laird4life

I love your name and avatar photo...great choice! Mirage TMNT were my first comic books. Slash is an awesome character too, especially that painting of him.
canadiancastaway - 6/11/2012, 7:25 PM
After reading all the posts I think the nays have it. I will avoid seeing this movie until its free on HBO in 2 years.
I like sci fi with substance, this doesnt seem like it.
Of course, I havent seen it. But the nays had better points.
FireKnightRises - 6/11/2012, 10:44 PM
damn space jockey is very muscular, they must love workout
they look like superhero than [frick]ing alien
wagonburner - 6/12/2012, 3:40 AM
i loved the visuals. just astonishing locations and set design. its just that, well...if you watched the trailer, you watched the whole damn movie!
DiLusso - 6/12/2012, 3:44 AM
watched alien resurrection, even that was better
PirateOpossum - 6/12/2012, 9:18 AM
People that hate this movie .. are the ones that are too stupid to understand it.
otakux3r0 - 6/12/2012, 9:52 AM
@Dilusso "Shut your mouth heathen"! The film was about answering questions and asking more questions. It didn't seem like it was supposed to be overly complex or manipulative. It was just supposed to be an entertaining sci-fi piece. I thought it cleverly expanded on the awesome AVP universe. Don't go looking for Avatar or Alien, just go looking for a great movie. Gonna take my girl with me next time; freak her right out.
Hitboyj - 6/13/2012, 6:48 AM
Not not sooo bad those large aliens were super buff and I really hope they do a sequel coz the story ain't wack at all.
