My initial reactions to the Captain America teaser spot

Like most people, I'm a little nervous about Chris Evans performance during the overall movie...

He only has two lines in the the teaser and you can't draw much from them. On the other hand, everything else about this movie jumps off the screen, jamming every bit of action they can into thirty seconds while giving some bold impressions of Steve Rogers' personality both before and after the procedure: His courage, willing to keep going in spite of his limitations and frailty (his struggle to survive boot camp training, the nervous look on his face before taking part in an experimental procedure) and his courage in the face of danger, charging onto the battlefield in full Captain America regalia. I think his frailty jumped out at me not so much because it looked unnatural as it was just jarring to see Evans so small, so sickly, appearing shorter than Peggy Carter in the first shot. Stanley Tucci's dialogue as Esrkine sounds very much like a mentor, warning him of the dangers and making sure Steve is taking part in this procedure for the right reasons: 'Not just a soldier, but a good man.' Visually, this trailer is stunning. Johnston manages to meld the practical technology, equipment and costumes of the World War 2 era (the prison camp clip with Steve, Bucky and the Howling Commandos walking out the front gate armed to the teeth) with the sleek technology and weaponry of Hydra (the brief shot inside the one-man submersible, the flame-throwing soldiers surrounding Steve and what looks like a precursor to the stealth bomber flying over the battlefield). The Hydra technology seems extremely advanced without feeling outlandish, it's still with in reason. Johnston's timing for action and choreography in this clip is top notch. At this point, the acting performances from the cast are the only thing left to seal the deal on this one.

P.S. I want anyone reading this to go out and do a survey for me: What era does Captain America take place in? (I'm betting you'll be surprised by the responses)

i was disappointed in the RED SKULL i thought it was too clean cut and cheesy looking, it resembles THE MASK with JIM CAREY. the thing should be HARDER and more grotesque than it was portrayed thus far

Overall, much better than I could have possibly expected. The metamorphosis from scrawny (benjamin buttonesque) weakling to sturdy super soldier was impressive. I'm thrilled!

dellamorte1872: I've never really found 'skull' based characters that scary, either. I'm waiting to see Hugo Weaving pull off a performance to make it work, the teaser doesn't sell any of the performances. I hope he makes Schmidt noteworthy. Have you see Marvels first attempt at Captain America? If not, go back and take a look at that one, you should have a new appreciation for the Skulls makeup in this one. Everything about the original movie is laughable.
MultiPurposeNaji: The bomber DOES look fake in that shot, but I'm willing to let that one go because you see it for, like, a millisecond.

You see everything "for like a millisecond". That commercial showed 20 to 25 seconds of the movie and it blew Green Lanterns two and half minute trailer out of the water. Isn't it crazy how Steve's response would be "taller" when he did in fact grow taller?!? SHOCKING.

thats not the point, it shouldnt be down right scary, it is a Disney movie. but i expected better. i mean the JOKER in TDK was a good tone for the film to have. but this? it doesnt instill confidence in me

America: I'm not upset about anything. I was just pointing out what I noticed. I was comparing the footage to the godawful first attempt at a Captain America that never even made it to theatres. Go back and see it, you'll understand. I'm LOT more confident about this one. When I said the teaser doesn't 'sell any of the performance' I was referring to the 30 seconds they had to get as much across as possible, which doesn't give them a chance to showcase dialogue and an actor's performance. I'm not disappointed by anything.

Delamorte: For all intents and purposes, this is not a Disney movie. They're just financing the projects. The head of Disney said they are taking a hands off approach to Marvel's work. Marvel has full creative control over their work. If he looks cheesy and unrealistic, that's Marvel's fault now. I'm just happy the Red Skull makeup looks better than the original movie. Even if it was only a millisecond.

lol i dont know why you must take my lil blog comments so "seriously". yes disney SAYS they arent involved with MARVEL but in the end they own the film rights, the franchise, the marketing. even if its a small part its still " a part". they need the film to make money and skew towards the demographics that will allow the film to make its maximum return. so yes disney i'm sure is "whispering" in MARVELs ear. i doubt they listen to everything but its a give and take in the business world especially that industry. honestly? i dont even really care lol still think it looks like JIM "THE MASK" CAREY ran up in the film tho, paint him green! lol

eh it looks like THE MASK bro' he has EYE LIDS the "skull" looks ill defined, granted though its early. just like G.L they can keep improving the effects before its release. THE RED SKULL doesnt look "sinister" he may be a bad ass nazi dude and WEAVING is awesome but........IT LOOKS LIKE A "MASK"! just not believable in the "scary" he's an awesome villain way. they coulda upped the look and made it a lil more "adult" and skull-like
