Even with this great success of Star wars, Universal won 2015 at the box office, impressive!

People also said that it was sure that Disney would win 2015 ... and Universal won with more than 1 billion advantage

I think Fox will be the highest-grossing Studio in 2016.

Only for knowledge:

Disney released 11 movies.
Universal released 21 movies, almost the double.

Yeah I knew this would be the case. 2015 was a massive year for movies. 2016 could beat it though.

Yes, but the vast majority of Universal's films are low-budget movies and almost all the Disney movies are high budget.

I really hope that someday a superhero movie is made with Nicolas cage and Shia Labeouf as the main characters. on topic I think Disney will win this year with fox coming in close second.

Disney has been largely winning on a per movie average for years.

It does as great as the top contenders with usually half the numbers of movies produced.

That's profitability through and through. Its efficiency is unparallel.

Even with the MCU, I don't don't think Disney has won the box office since 2003 (I might be wrong.) but they also put out less movies than other studios every year. It'll be interesting to see what happens this year..

2016 not will beat the 2015 numbers, but 2017 will.

But seriously, that was one ridiculously successful year for Universal, gotta respect that! And Disney is just continuously bringing in great numbers with their own stuff as well as all the crazy shit they have acquired over the years.

Next year Warner Bros should be back in the big leagues with the likes of BvS and Fantastic Beasts, and Fox could do solid numbers with their line up as well.

You also have to take into account that most of the movies Disney puts out are the family animated movies and blockbusters. They won't have they smaller R rated movies that other studios have

Jurrasic World...where they turned raptors into SEAL Team 6.....has to be the most ridiculous premise for a movie I've ever seen.

"Whatever happened to universal studios classic monsters and their shared universe?"

- Well they're still trying to get that re-re-launched with The Mummy reboot, but it's unlikely that will get any more traction than Dracula Untold did. They were too late to arrive to a party that they could've started themselves DECADES ago.

I still remember the days where everybody says Disney will own everybody with a big margin that there is absolute no contest in 2015. Look what we have here... Universal the huge dark horse.

But to be real 2016 Disney still looking the best with the biggest potential to be box office king. Universal taught people that they should never be certain about these numbers.

Furious 7 didn't have those numbers because of Paul Walker's death. The Furious franchise is just more popular world wide. Don't be surprised if The Force Awakens doesn't beat Furious 7 in the foreign market. TFA definitely has the stronger NA, Europe, Australia performance, and these are the possible countries that might have cared more for Paul Walker. South America, and Asia will have a stronger Furious 7 earnings than TFA, and these countries probably care less about Paul Walker.

Looks like Universal will go from record-breaking to fourth or fifth. And surely Zootopia should be on Disney's list. That'll make a buck.
