Wadey09 - 10/3/2009, 9:19 PM
hmm yes, Betty is brilliant.
Betty - 10/3/2009, 10:03 PM
Betty owns everyone
CaptainAmerica - 10/3/2009, 10:05 PM
I wasn't sold on him portraying Hal J. even though I like him as an actor. But I have faith :) GL will either make or break the future of DC movies, and I'm sure Warners knows it. I don't think they're going to take any chances this time around.

On a side note, his attitude lines up with just about every AF pilot I know LOL
MultiPurposePoni - 10/3/2009, 10:16 PM
I'm still trying to imagine him with a wavy combover!
MovieTheaterLad - 10/3/2009, 10:21 PM
AWSOME...I WONDER WHAT THE COSTUMES WILL LOOK LIKE...RYAN REYNOLD WILL BE SEVERELY FUNNY ON SNL
GUNSMITH - 10/3/2009, 10:23 PM
love this guy
Torque - 10/3/2009, 10:25 PM
lol. Ryan is awesome but still not convinced for GL
InstigatorGIRL - 10/3/2009, 10:27 PM
@Torque: Nice avatar! Funny as hell Haha. . ha. . erm, maybe I should stop messing with the lights
MultiPurposePoni - 10/3/2009, 10:28 PM
I think Ryan Renolds is going to be great for GL. I mean the casting directors picked him so he can't be that bad.
BatmanKnight - 10/3/2009, 10:38 PM
I'm extremely excited for Green Lantern. Ryan will be a great Hal!

And I'm glad that it seems that more people are supporting Ryan as Hal. Good to see.

InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/3/2009, 10:54 PM
You know, Tyler, I don't think many people are really AGAINST him playing Hal. Everyone made the horrid (and repetitive) mistake of blindly, and whole-heartedly backing other actors that they liked. Ryan's casting came WAY out of left field, and it was a huge shock. Now, everyone that was sold on Cooper or Fillion has to come to terms with RR.

That's why I don't understand why so many people on here go back and forth, very adamantly might I add, about the Captain America casting. Why convince ourselves that one actor is PERFECT for the role when the studio will most likely throw a gorilla-sized monkey wrench in the system and cast someone no one thought of? We're setting ourselves up for failure yet again.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/3/2009, 11:06 PM
Well, people were freaking out and putting so much hate on Reynolds when it was announced he was cast. I'm just glad people have simmered down.

And I'm also glad the Reynolds Jokes have really declined. No, I'm REALLY glad they declined :)
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/3/2009, 11:17 PM
Reynolds certainly would not have been my first choice for H. Jordan. But I am becoming more and more convinced that Reynold's performance will carry a role like H. Jordan. Personally, I think he was perfect for Deadpool. And ok for Jordan. But he is the best choice (IMO) for any of the DC characters. There was a huge call for him to be Wally West. But I think he's too old at this point for West's origin story. The twisted sarcasm will suit Hal fine. There's a funny line in Barry Allen's thought bubbles when he was reflecting on when he first met Hal Jordan(Flash Rebirth Issue 1):
"I didn't like Hal Jordan when we first met. He was a little too reckless. He stared at Wonder Woman a little too long. And he laughed under his breath like a maniac whenever the League was outnumbered. It wasn't until I heard him use the word "perp" that I figured out he was cop. That changed everything."
That was a good read.

Phinehas - 10/3/2009, 11:18 PM
@Phin: Priceless! I never read that book :) I love it when comic characters talk about each other, it gives the reader a greater insight into their counterpart's personality.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/3/2009, 11:23 PM
I agree Phinehas. Reynolds was not my choice for Hal, hell, I never even thought of him as GL, but he's a great actor, can do both serious and comedy styles, and he's got Martin Campbell directing him. I count those as wins :)
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/3/2009, 11:26 PM
Me too Tyler. I am getting very excited for this film. I don't watch as many movies as I had, because the theaters are filled with the equivalent of a sewage spill. There are some I'll check out, like Wolfman. But I wait for the CBMs now.

MMP, conversely, 2009 has been a great season for comics, and this train doesn't look like its ending anytime soon. I can give my endorsement of Flash: Rebirth. At least the first 4 of six.
Phinehas - 10/3/2009, 11:38 PM
@Phin: I'd love to pick it up. Do you know when it will be released in TPB? Space is limited so I've been slowly converting my stockpile of comics into soft covers.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/3/2009, 11:41 PM
@InTylerWeTrust82 and Phinehas: Of course Ryan Renolds was not our first chouce for GL, and this pretty much destroys any chance of him being The Flash, but now that he's been cast i really don't think its that bad of a casting.

Renolds can be a really serious actor when he tries, and Jordan is sarcastic just like Renolds. In a way this was an excellent casting.
BatmanKnight - 10/3/2009, 11:49 PM
I'm newer to the board, but was reading for a long time and saw/have scene all the hate for Reynolds. I have always taken the stance Poni suggested - never ever hated or even disliked him for Green Lantern (or any role - he's very satisfactory and has mad talent as an actor), but just thought Cooper would've been ideal. And I still, and always will think Reynolds was uncannily ideal for Wally West and is for Deadpool. Just feel a slight dissapointment that we'll never get to see him as The Flash.

And as far as the casting director choosing him, his career is on fire and he's becoming highly bankable - that's probably the biggest reason for the choice.

I just saw him on SNL, and Christ, after last week with Meegen, it was a hell of a cut above. He's a fantastic actor. So I'm sure he'll do a plenty satisfactory job with GL, but I will always feel... just... man what could've been? you know. Sure do hope he pulls through with Deadpool, because even if it is a bit watered down, it will still surely be a sight to behold.

I basically just totally agree with you guys, but still think he looks young enough to have pulled off Wally West origin. Could have done slight age regression for the first part of the film. He's pretty worked too - if he lost a little of that muscle, he'd look younger, but then to put it all back on would take a while so that'd probably be bad.
48and2 - 10/3/2009, 11:51 PM
I'm just glad that it is moving along.... ANd he is one funny dude... i have faith in this movie ... it will be the bomb diggady... ;-)
thegreek - 10/3/2009, 11:52 PM
I do agree that Ryan was certainly ideal for Wally.

However, and this is not directed at anyone here, but rather a general statement to those who hated on Reynolds for "selling out" and that "he promised he would be Flash", but:

News FLASH (pun intended), the Flash movie was in limbo when GL was rolling around Reynolds' door, and it still is in limbo. I doubt anyone would have turned GL down, if they were in Reynolds' situation.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/3/2009, 11:56 PM
@Tyler-i totally agree dude. Renolds said multiple times that he would love to be The Flash. But if the movie isn't being made he isn't just going to wait around until it finally starts up. I mean it is his job he has to try and land the best roles he can.

By the way read my Green Arrow stories in the fan fic section.
BatmanKnight - 10/4/2009, 12:00 AM
@Tyler: Nuh-uh man! A REAL Flash fan would have turned down the multi-million dollar GL offer and waited it out! A REAL fan would have financed the movie himself, divorced ScarJo and lived in van down by the RIVER if that's what it took! A REAL fan would lift the restraining order he put on me and just send me a lock of his hair LIKE I ASKED!!

Umm, wait, what are we talking about again?
MultiPurposePoni - 10/4/2009, 12:01 AM
Agreed Greek! If this is the gateway drug for Flash and WW, I'm ready to go behind the portables to light up!
Phinehas - 10/4/2009, 12:02 AM
True, MPP. The word fan is a derivant of fanatic.
Phinehas - 10/4/2009, 12:04 AM
Batman: Thanks man. I'll see if I can check your stories out :)

Multi: LMAO dude!
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/4/2009, 12:04 AM
I just don't understand why The Flash is like considered to be an almost b-list character, and the movie's been on the backburner for so long. I'm a child of the 80s and he's like a household word to me. Was one of the first comic book characters I'd ever heard of. As far as movie potential goes, he doesn't really have the psychological depth as Batman, nor the mind blowing array of powers of the invincible Superman, nor the potential for all out Star Wars/Trek potential of GL - that's part of it. But some pretty clever and entertaining things can be done, and Wally West's personality and character is half the potential. I find myself thinking maybe part of why Hollywood hasn't been incredibly interested is because Superman's powers blow his away, and we've already basically seen a short version of The Flash in Superman I, when he's running along with the train. I dunno, it's perplexing to me.
48and2 - 10/4/2009, 12:06 AM
@48and2: Dude, it's simple. Just stop thinking and. . . "Be the meat"
MultiPurposePoni - 10/4/2009, 12:07 AM
I could raise you guys one - I believe the word Poni's looking for is "psychofant" =P If Reynolds were a true Flash psychofant, that's what he'd have done for sure. I certainly get the tongue in cheekedness of what Poni's saying there, but I mean there have been instances of that in Hollywood of actors going nearly to those great lengths to portray a certain role, and directors, and producers going to those nearly insane lengths to get a movie made a certain way. But alas, I'm afraid those days are pretty much over with. Now Reynold's is doing movies with Sandra Bullock, etc. I mean come on - jackpot! (not that I love Bullock, but she's pretty high up on the a list).
48and2 - 10/4/2009, 12:16 AM
@MultiPurposePoni heh, dude I know where you're comin' from - I'm afraid I've just grown accustomed to the time and luxury that guys like you've provided me with, and become a soft, pretentious, pedantic, pointy headed, overanalytical bastard who thinks too much. =)
48and2 - 10/4/2009, 12:22 AM
@48and2: Sounds like you're referring to Stallone's Rocky and Coppolla's Apocalypse Now. Yes, my friend, the age of uber-capitalism is upon us. . . you know the drill

BTW don't be so hard on yourself! You don't seem so pedantic
MultiPurposePoni - 10/4/2009, 12:23 AM
Sycophant-A yes man, a soothsayer, a flatterer. I don't see Reynolds as this. But could be, I guess. I don't want Wally West done before Barry Allen. Part of Wally West's conflict was living in the long shadow of Barry Allen. Barry Allen was a stalwart bullwork of righteousness. He was thorough in his work. And saw the world in stark contrasts of black and white. He was almost autistic about it.
Phinehas - 10/4/2009, 12:26 AM
Jeez I even misspelled it, usually am good at that - I must've read that word ten thousand times, and written it a thousand. See I am pedantic lol - nah it's all in good self deprecating fun man. Christ my browser's doing weird stuff - double posting, deleting posts, etc. Maybe it's just me. Gonna have to cut this one short, and get some shuteye. You guys have a good night, or should I say morning.

48and2 - 10/4/2009, 12:45 AM
Its not you. CBM did something last night. And now its all bugged-up!
Phinehas - 10/4/2009, 12:48 AM
@ Phinehas - Exactly if this can some how help to make a WW or Flash movie or both ... then lets just support it
thegreek - 10/4/2009, 1:12 AM
I guess Jimmy Fallon's never seen "Just Friends" otherwise he'd find the All 4 One song funny for a different reason.
padidas - 10/4/2009, 1:55 AM
Phin: "If this is the gateway drug for Flash and WW, I'm ready to go behind the portables to light up!"

***sigh*** my hero! totally agree with you.

Ryan as gl...eh... ok... but not for flash. I'd like Dane Cook for Flash but maybe is too old for him?
KeepItReal - 10/4/2009, 2:46 AM
RYAN REYNOLDS FOR THE WHOLE GREEN LANTERN CORPS!! ; D

Just kidding, that ones for TYLER!! Lol.
LEEE777 - 10/4/2009, 5:13 AM
I reserve judgment on the whole movie..yeah cooper was my first choice and im not sure on Ryan...but im more concerned on the actual movie....its such a fine line between epic and cheesy and im worried which line they will go for to apeal to the broader audience ;)
teabag - 10/4/2009, 5:22 AM
good for him. they should of let him do the flash years ago.

anyone who doesn't like ryan better get used to his face.
InFamouslyCool - 10/4/2009, 6:24 AM
@ BatmanKnight :

"I think Ryan Renolds is going to be great for GL. I mean the casting directors picked him so he can't be that bad. "

Hes a good actor, its the casting directors that maybe bad..

RR just seems to young, I know, you want someone young to appeal to younglings and someone who will be able to do 3 or more movies of your particular franchise and not be an old man. *cough..IndianaJones..cough*
Skyh00k - 10/4/2009, 6:33 AM
,
Skyh00k - 10/4/2009, 7:53 AM
i think he'll be fine in both roles. he's played serious before. and its not like hal isn't a smart ass.

and oh yeah...jimmy fallon is a tool shed.

and good job posting a video that cuts off the part when he's about to talk about deadpool, that was nice, i'm sure no one wanted to hear that
CorndogBurglar - 10/4/2009, 8:44 AM
@ skyhook

hal wasn't old when he first became GL, he was younger.
CorndogBurglar - 10/4/2009, 8:46 AM
skyhook: This is Hal's origin movie. Reynolds is 32. I highly doubt the writers of the GL comics wrote Hal as much older than that during his origin.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/4/2009, 8:53 AM
Yeah, you guys are prolly roight.

Skyh00k - 10/4/2009, 1:51 PM
Why make a movie of Green Lantern? He sucks! Besides Watchmen, Batman, and Hawkman, DC sucks. Deadpool will be awseome though!
wyatt1234 - 10/4/2009, 5:34 PM
@ wyatt

GL is one of the only reasons to read DC in my opinion, lol
CorndogBurglar - 10/4/2009, 6:41 PM
I think Reynolds will be great for GL and DeadPool, but why wouldn't they chose another actor to play GL. Reynolds has already played the Deapool role and is now known for that character. but what will people say to him after the release of both movies? Will it be "Hey GL" or "Hey Deadpool.."?? I still believe Bradley Cooper would have been a good choice, only because Reynolds is playing 2 role for 2 comic book movies. That's my thought anyway.
Hulk2008 - 10/5/2009, 7:42 AM
Great characters but dont use the same actor for both come on now..... YOu wouldnt have Cristian Bale play batman and get done filming and play superman in another movie...... YOU GUYS ARE KILLING ME!!!!!
GenLee01 - 10/5/2009, 10:56 AM
@ hulk

maybe he's actually THAT good as GL??? we won't know until we see, my friend!
CorndogBurglar - 10/5/2009, 11:18 AM
@ genlee

its a little different considering GL and Deadpool will be in the same movie together...its not like he's playing 2 marvel characters. or two DC characters
CorndogBurglar - 10/5/2009, 11:19 AM
What does it matter that he's playing 2 comic book characters? They are two completely different characters. By this logic no actor should play 2 characters in Shakespeare books.
Axl - 10/5/2009, 12:23 PM
why does everyone on this sit give dc so much crap they are equally as good as marvel. sure some of their stuff suck, but marvels got a lot of dumb crap too. don't get me wrong i like marvel too but so many of you act like dc has nothing to offer.
comicboyV1 - 10/5/2009, 1:04 PM
i'm still not convinced on him playing hal jordan. im currently reading the sinestro wars and revenge of the red lanterns and everytime i see hal i remember ryan is playing him ugh. all we can do is just wait until a trailer comes out for the movie.
odie00 - 10/5/2009, 1:40 PM
i cant watch it !!!!!!!
FrankCastle1 - 10/5/2009, 2:29 PM
