The Joker Meets DirectTV

The Joker Returns to Warn Us Against the Evils of Not Having DirectTV
When DirectTV commercials were created using deceased actors like Chris Farley from Tommy Boy and Heather O’Rourke from Poltergeist people were "offended". Don't ask me why but some people think differently than others.

LandlineTV has created a faux DirecTV commercial showing how abusred these commercials are and what they could lead too. The video shows Heath Ledger, Jphn F. Kennedy and Jesus Christ.

So watch it below...and try not to be offended:

BmanHall - 11/2/2009, 1:51 PM

BmanHall - 11/2/2009, 1:57 PM
the difference is the comercials dont have the dead guys talking. its always others in the shot. thats not as disrepectful as these are. however they are hilarious.
superdog - 11/2/2009, 2:04 PM
Yeah that's like some one getting offended that you put a movie on with a person that's dead in real life. I don't hear them crying about the MJ movie.
hybrid45 - 11/2/2009, 2:07 PM

teabag - 11/2/2009, 2:12 PM

LEEE777 - 11/2/2009, 2:14 PM
Yeah I don't get why people got offended either.

its not like they're the people in the movie and know the person.
BatmanKnight - 11/2/2009, 2:16 PM

superdog - 11/2/2009, 2:20 PM

NightAvenger4 - 11/2/2009, 2:24 PM
I just saw the Farley commercial - and Spade is the one who talks direct TV etc - thank christ. But I found it untasteful to be honest.

Respect a dead actor's performance dude - it's a fcuking TV commercial. Spade should go fcuk himself to death.

Tea@ LMFAO
hawkngo - 11/2/2009, 3:20 PM
Knowing everything we know about chris farley and his sense of humour and love of his friends and stuff i seriously doubt he would be offended. And obviously his family isn't, so who are the rest of us to say whether it's offensive or not.
superdog - 11/2/2009, 4:41 PM
When is DISH going to jump on the dead guy gravy train? Maybe Jake Gyllenhall or Michelle Williams is ready to offer up Heath Ledger? Just wrong. Check this out:

I find it completely ridiculous how many people complained about these ads. There is absoloutley nothing even the least bit offensive about them. I guess it goes to show you how many Supermikes are living in the world.
bubastis237 - 11/2/2009, 4:56 PM
I love the Chris Farley commercial there is nothing offensive about it. The clip above is funny.
@Tea, LMFAO.

InstigatorGIRL - 11/2/2009, 11:17 PM
teabag, your the greatest for leavin all of you boob pics.
brian01 - 11/3/2009, 12:28 AM
Trying hard to be controversial and/or offensive is just boring these days. Publicity stunts are quickly forgotten... meh.
EditNinja - 11/3/2009, 12:44 AM
The hilarious thing about this post is that I was JUST thinking about this EXACT topic. I saw the Kim Basinger commercial for DirectTV and I was thinking about how long it will be until they start doing ones with Heath Ledger and other dead celebs. Then I thought of something funny called the "Too Soon" network where every TV show/movie are bad money making pieces of crap like the new Michael Jackson movie.
BigGrunks - 11/3/2009, 6:03 AM
i wouldn't say offended, but do you think these deceased actors would appreciate it?? somehow i doubt it. i couldn't care less either way, personally.
CorndogBurglar - 11/3/2009, 6:26 AM
This went from bad to worse... I'm not offended, but I betcha a lot of people will be!
batfan39 - 11/3/2009, 9:36 AM
Yep as BmanHall said people get offended by everything. They like to it gives them something to bitch about, and for some reason, people loooove to bitch. Look, if someone, or something, insults you personally then you can get offended. If something not connected to you gets insulted then don't. Be irrate if you want, just not indignant.
Shadowelfz - 11/3/2009, 9:43 AM
I wonder if these guys have the brass cojones to do one with Muhammed. I dare them! If they do, I'll applaud.
Phinehas - 11/3/2009, 10:06 AM
th actor they got 4 th joker ad looks like Obama a bit :)
torched4 - 11/3/2009, 10:10 AM
@CDB. With the Chris Farley one, no he wouldn't be offended. I read a book about the SNL behind the scenes and Farley was one of those guys who always appreciated good comedy. He probably would be laughing at it.
Plus, Do you guys think Spade would have done it if it was in bad taste? They were best friends so I think not. Also the dude has been dead for over a decade now. Besides, I think the family got some $$ for it too.
InstigatorGIRL - 11/3/2009, 10:11 AM
it's not that I find it offensive to the deceased actor in the sense of the mateiral being used, it's a movie, it's a piece of history - chop it up for whatever you want - but for christ's sake it's being used for a fcuking commercial. the thing is being put on TV to make money for a cable company and scenes from these deceased actor's films are being whored out for their co-stars - who aren't dead to make a buck.

none of that seems wrong to you? really?
Keven - 11/3/2009, 10:24 AM
Keven, you could make that arguement when the actor did the movie intially to make money. Technically they are portraying a character, so it isn't really the identity of the actor that's being used, just the actor's interpretation of the character. It doesn't bother me int he slightest. Using Christ and/or JFK is definitely from a warped mind.
Phinehas - 11/3/2009, 1:16 PM
to each his own. I think using a movie scene with a dead actor to promote a fcuking cable company is tasteless though. would you think it's ok if David Spade cracks a fat joke and starts eating a Subway 5 dollar footlong after having Farley doing the fat guy in a little coat dance?

it bugs me cause that sh!t wasn't in the film - the dead guy can't stop this sh!t. i think it's wrong man - that's all I can say.
Keven - 11/3/2009, 2:25 PM
Does't bother me. I don't see it as immoral or unethical. Most of the time, actors (or for that matter, artists like musicians) have no say what is done with their image from a film(or song from an album). All that should be dealt with in the contract. If it were a contract violation, then sure. But for them to do it, they had to get studio permission. Farley's estate would sue if it was a violation of contract that he had signed to do the film.

Fame isn't fair, nor is meant to be. Don't want a public persona? Don't enter politics or entertainment.
Phinehas - 11/3/2009, 3:05 PM
WTF, David Spade? Is this an SNL parody gone viral, or are you really selling out your dead buddy to make a buck? Dude, this is so wrong. On so many levels. Please tell me you’re doing this directv commercial to help out Chris Farley’s grandma in need. Check this link out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YiyFk2GuPM

TRLarson - 11/3/2009, 3:43 PM
i agree TRLarson - it may be ok with you Phinehas - but think about it dude. It just isn't right. When Farley was shooting this movie - if they had told him that over 10 years after he died - that they would alter this scene for a commercial repping a cable tv provider in which David Spade makes money and some random cable company money - totally jacking this scene for no reason other than making money - he wouldn't have believed it.

it's ridiculous.
Keven - 11/3/2009, 3:58 PM
it isn't even funny dude - it's funny right up until Spade starts plugging some random fcuking cable company during the scene which looks just like the original for no reason whatsoever.

it's bullsh!t.
Keven - 11/3/2009, 4:00 PM
People use the image of other dead people like JFK, Jesus (you know what I mean), or the US Presidents. Do those bother you too? Furhthermore, the profited off of the movie in the first place. I don't see the reason for offence. I'm put off, as a Christian, that Christ was used irreverently, but thats the name of the game. Parodies and roasts go with fame. Its undeniable.
Phinehas - 11/3/2009, 4:20 PM
Teabag- Nice pic!
ironknight27 - 11/4/2009, 9:31 AM
I dont understand why some ppl get offended when the families gives permission for these commercial.
