Cool! Your back:) Nice howl Johnny.

I agree mostly..although I think you probably enjoyed it a bit more than I did. I think Johnny is probably right about Cap basing it off this movie, it will look great but we may not really connect with the characters. I hope Im wrong of course.

Hav to disagree about how he looked. Sure he was true to the original..but that was 1940! It was great for the time but he just looked like a pissed of teddy bear to me. Big stupid mushroom hair do and all.

LOL, Ror, thats great stuff. The first kill scene with Anthony Hopkins' Wolfman was complete cheese. It looked like a furry dog. When I was watching it I kept telling myself imagine if the original was shot today this is what it would look like. Mushroom head is not forgettable, LOL. But the rest of The Wolfman's scenes were good ol classic horror movie moments that I liked. The love story was horrible and seemed like it should have been cut (Director's issue)

@jman1977: Saw it yesterday and I thought it was okay. It was good, but not great. It's a good B movie. I sorta disagree with your thoughts on the acting, I thought it was nicely done even though a few lines were not brought out as strong like you guys said, but I thought they did pretty well. Oh well, "To each his own" I guess. Great review guys, loved it.

I saw Wolfman last night. Enjoyed it all the way up to final death scene. I've seen better bucket kicking in Troma films!

I'm of the thought that (much like Keven), the transformation scenes in the movie were spot on. There were some portions of the transformed Wolfman that didn't really jive with me, however...

The digitigrade feet and clawed hands were pretty cool, and a welcome change over the Lon Chaney original (which looked more like a hairy man, or the Lobos Boys, than a Wolf-Man, imo)...but the face left me with something to be desired. I've preferred my werewolves to look more like a Ron Spencer drawing, complete with snarling, canine faces...ears on the tops of their heads, and massive size (read: seven+ feet in height).

Having said the downsides, the overall movie was a good experience for me. They kept much of the doom-and-gloom of the genre that I crave, the acting was great, and the cinematography was excellent. I’d recommend it to a friend, but wouldn’t see it a second time in the theater.

Nice Review. I didn't think that Wolfman was as bad or as great as some reviewers thought it to be. I thought that the Acting was fine. Certainly nothing oscar worthy, but good nonetheless. Maybe it's my love for The Mask of Zorro or The Silence of the Lambs, but I do love seeing Anthony Hopkins play a crazy guy every now and then. The cgi for the transformations wasn't very good in my eyes. The murder scenes were cool, but I would have liked to have been genuinely scared just once. A good effort on the filmmaker's part, but I felt that this movie was lacking a little bit. In all fairness though, i liked this movie much more than I thought I would

"Spoiler Alert (cause I forgot" - Talbot Sr. as the original wolfman? That was SO much bs. The cinematography was BEAUTIFUL, but the directing was s***.

I fear for Captain America...

@ superdog - bro, if you haven't seen the movie, really don't bother. It's more of a movie that'll make you mad, most likely, if you're a die-hard Universal fan. Sorry, man.

God, I can't really explain it, but while watching it, I hated how sometimes the camera would just roll. Literally, my high expectations were shot. Best thing about the movie is 'oh what's her name.'

"Spoiler" - I though they were going to use the silver tipped cane more, but hell no, they didn't.

I am glad Keven brought up the bear because I had almost for gotten about that. It looked horrible even in the dark. It was fine until it movied because you couldn't see anything but after it moved it looked like a cartoon.

I felt very surprised at Del Toro's lackluster delivery. I have never seen that out of him before. On the way home my wife said "He's a long way from Traffic"
However I noticed some fumbles from Hopkins too. There was the accent thing. Much of the time he barely had any accent at all. Then there was the scene when he's throwing the locals off his property. At that point he started trying to do this paltry attempt at sounding like somebody from Rormachine's neck of the woods. There was one particular line delivered in the movie that again was shokingly bad for Sir Hopkins

SO... what we have hear is sour notes from two extremely high quality actors in the same movie, so what that tells me is that it ain't them. It's the director.

Anyways it wasn't terrible imo. I had a good time, but I am still quite concerned that Captain America might in the wrong hands.

The Special effects where great. the Gore scenes where little bit cheesy but ok! The gothic nature of the film and the Wolfman make-up where the best part in it. I mean i loved them!:) But this dont save the whole movie because the acting and the story was very predictable and boring. I´m very disappointed because this was amazing chance to do something unforgettable and they screw it up

I didn't have a problem with Hopkin's accent...I mean he's from the UK.
From all accounts I've heard Johnston did the best with what had. He was brought in at the 11th hour and was told he didn't have time for script rewrites and that the movie had to begin production immediately. he problem here seems to have been with Universal, not with Joe.
Minotauro
Minotauro - 2/16/2010, 2:43 PM
Keven - "the only problem with this movie was a jumbled script - I think the directing and effects saved what worked for this film."

^^^^^This.

Just playing Devil's advocate, but it seems to me that alot of people have decided that because the Wolfman isn't stellar that his version of Cap might not fare well. Don't forget, Joe Johnston had to come in behind another director on the Wolfman. Anyone who has had to pick up the slack after someone else messes up already knows the kind of atmosphere that can create. I can see the powers that be screaming "Just get it done GDI! We're outta time!". So the pressure is on, the studio probably doesn't care (because if they had, they definitely would have waited until Halloween) and they called in a no nonsense guy to wrap it up (Hence Hopkin's comment about Johnston not being a wimp, which leads me to believe that the other director was like Damien Cockburn from Tropic Thunder). To quote the great Les Grossman:" you want to know what to do if actors get all whiny on you? You pull down their pants and you SPANK THAT ASS!!!!!"

AlexDeLarge87 - 2/16/2010, 4:11 PM
Keven@

I dont blame Johnston. The time ran out. I´m sure he tried his best to make it great and like i said he manage to save the action in it. Okey! The acting and the story wasn´t a total fail, but admit it there was a few scenes in it which were very predictable and that kind of scenes eats the whole movie not literally. But there was a few good ideas which i liked!... Among other things.

SPOILERS!----SPOILERS!----SPOILERS!----SPOILERS!

Torturing session in the asylum and seeing Hopkins as a werewolf!!:)
