A true dark horse of the summer, Robert Rodriguez and Nimrod Antel brought the Predator Franchise Back, and in a BIG way!

This movie has the quality to be the Sleeper hit of the year. No one would see it coming but this remake actually has a bit of substance to it.

A couple things I wanted to add:

I liked how they showed more depth to the Predator as a race.

I liked the Deadliest Warrior episode in the middle.

Robert Rodriguez should direct the second installment of 'The Last Airbender' and any future 'Alien' films and any future 'Terminator' films!! This guys got the vision and the Midas Touch to back it up!

I didnt care to much for the ending, but endings to this type of story don't always play out to be anything shocking or memorable.

Thats all I'm going to say. This film is worth the price of admission. Go See It!!!

Many thanks to the Portage 16 IMAX Theater in Portage IN for hosting the midnight showing.

Did Rodriguez co-direct this or just produce it? I don't remember...

Necrophobos - 7/9/2010, 7:23 AM
good review. can't wait to see it. but...isn't this some sort of a sequel to the first one and not a remake?
Shaman - 7/9/2010, 7:33 AM
IMDB says Rodriguez didn't direct this film. So i don't get why he should direct Airbender, Aliens or Terminator when the best he's given us was the co-directed Sin City. Of course that's just my opinion but i just don't see anything about his style fitting all those classics especially since he didn't even direct Predators.

This film looks awesome though, Nimrod does seem like he did a great job here.
cjm877 - 7/9/2010, 7:45 AM
I went to go see the midnight show and I was a bit disappointed. Spoiler Alert**** the characters got killed off really fast. Lawrence Fishbourne's character showed up really late and seemed he was already dead 10 minutes later. But the top two most disappointed points from this movie was that allot of the stuff you see in the trailer was not even in the movie and the ending really sucked. I would give it a high "C" or a low "B". As long as you don't go in there with your hopes up you'll get a decent summer flick.
DDD - 7/9/2010, 7:46 AM
Nice review!

This movie looks way better than I thought it would!

I'm happily surprised!

It seems to have more substance!
THEMRTERRIFIC - 7/9/2010, 7:48 AM
Goin' 2nite!! Can't wait!
superdog - 7/9/2010, 7:52 AM
shaman that was my first thought, rodriguez didnt helm this movie, he was just a producer and it was based off an old script of his. and i wouldnt call it a remake either, its more a sequel or just a different story in the same universe. im going to see it in about an hour. looks good.
hippopotamusprime - 7/9/2010, 7:53 AM
Yeah, as much as I do like Rodriguez, Antal directed this film. Anyone who doubts his prowess needs to check out his debut "Kontrol". Never had a doubt this was gonna be good. At least Rodriguez had the foresight to let him off the leash more than the studios have been willing to.
flames809 - 7/9/2010, 7:54 AM
it looks more like a prequel than a sequel
peterparker420 - 7/9/2010, 7:57 AM
JMAN- NICE ONE!..I always like you're guys reviews..but
there is one thing I have noticed..the length of
them has been going down..whats going on?..NOT
including the TITLE..This one is BARELY 2 minutes
long. I really wish they were at least 5 minutes
but that's jut me.
jman1977 - 7/9/2010, 8:12 AM
@parker: 5 minutes is what I shoot for, but sometimes it does not happen the way you planned, wait, thats all the time. Anyways, I appreciate your comment and know that I see what your saying. John is MIA and this is JB's 3rd go at it. He will get more comfortable and talk more as time goes on. To answer the 'Johnny Love is coming back or not question?' Dont know? He reads these threads if you guys want Johnny to get the hell out of the kitchen then let your voices be heard and hopefully all three of us will be there next time!
superdog - 7/9/2010, 8:19 AM
johnny GET THE HELL OUT OF THE KITCHEN!!!!!!. seriously take your balls out of your wife's purse and go see a movie for crying out loud :)

@blee947 - Good to hear the opinion of a devotee of the original. Rock and Roll.
dellamorte1872 - 7/9/2010, 9:56 AM
it was decent not great. i still like PREDATOR 2 too but i guess i'm the only one. i thought there would be a variety of creatures the "classes" of PREDS had, but there was just dogs, and the thing FISHBURNE shot dead! i thought the first half was great! where to take it from here though at the end? a PREQUEL with LAWRENCE's character or a direct SEQUEL with BRODY and his CHI CA. i will say this, the topher grace serial killer thing was NOT a shocker at all, i knew it the whole time! what shocked me was "MORPHEUS" dieing i thought him and BRODY were going to be the soul survivors. the con i surprisingly liked , he was humorous without being too annoying
NiteSoul69 - 7/9/2010, 10:32 AM
RUN FOR THE CHOPA!!
MassExecutions - 7/9/2010, 10:34 AM
@blee947 - People after my own heart!

It was the echo!

Strap this on your sore ass!
Shaman - 7/9/2010, 10:35 AM
Tea- HAHA!!! Good ol' Bill Duke LOL

"I ain't got time to bleed!"

What was the lame ass joke the dude said in the chopper at the begining again? You know, the one the injun needed an explanation for? LOL I just can't remember it :P

And i don't care who says what, i loved Predator 2!

"Want some candy?" LOL
Shaman - 7/9/2010, 10:42 AM
AAAAAH HAA HAA HAA HAA HAAAAA... AAAAH HAA HAA HAA HAA HAAAA...

That was... that was the injun laughing... :P
MassExecutions - 7/9/2010, 10:51 AM
@wards - WHAT?!?! Everybody knows that! I cant believe they made a mistake like that about claymores.
Gmoney84 - 7/9/2010, 11:02 AM
Arnold throws the knife in old dude in the village and in typical 80's fashion...

"Stick around!"
MassExecutions - 7/9/2010, 11:11 AM
@Gmoney84 - we need more of that in todays movies. Here's hoping in The Expendables!

There was a movie of TV show I saw once where they spend all this time fighting to get this electronic detonator thing and then when they find final get it and set off the explosives you see a fuse burning. WHAT IDIOTS!
Spock - 7/9/2010, 11:51 AM
NIce review, will be looking for it. Want was so BAd about AVP? Stop whaling on it.
jshark - 7/9/2010, 12:34 PM
Maybe I can drag my wife to this. I think most people know those explosives don't produce fiery explosions, but Hollywood tries to make it look good by adding the Michael Bay touch.
MassExecutions - 7/9/2010, 1:16 PM
Somebody needs to make a Man vs Jungle youtube clip out of that scene.
Unspoken - 7/9/2010, 1:57 PM
I went and saw the movie today and enjoyed it. I thought it was entertaining which is really all I wanted out of it.. One thing that is driving me nuts is what the hell does he say at the very end when he sees the crates falling. He says it in that raspy voice and I just could not make it out... Thanks.
TheMyth - 7/9/2010, 2:33 PM
Kill it with the damned spoilers!!! Never have I seen so many spoilers posted regarding a film on this site!!!

Jman, Thanks for the review, This and the Airbender were the last 2 movies of the summer I'd been awaiting since IM2. Hopefully I'll see it tonight, but definitely I'll see it by tomorrow night.
thetrubatman14 - 7/9/2010, 2:45 PM
this movie was good man 3 out of 5 or 7 out of 10
just the ending kinda sucked!
but this movie is worth paying
superdog - 7/9/2010, 3:22 PM
Just saw it as well and i concur with the others. Not a great film but very enjoyable and right in line with the original. Really good concept and acting. Definatley worth seeing.
soperman - 7/9/2010, 4:48 PM
@dellamorte, you asshole you are supposed to say *SPOILER WARNING* (or something similar) when you say shit like that, you kinda just ruined the ending for me, good job dickhead
ChristopherJohnson - 7/9/2010, 6:21 PM
Saw it tonight, thought it was pretty dreadful tbh. The score is great and draws upon the original but the script is so, so exposition heavy it's cringeworthy. Really dissapointed with Fishburne's character as well, awful stuff.

It's made me appreciate Danny Glover climbing on drainpipes a lot more anyway.
InstigatorGIRL - 7/9/2010, 7:13 PM
I saw it today and I really liked it. I thought it was very entertaining and worth the watch.
Watcher - 7/10/2010, 12:17 AM
YO ADRIAN! Brody plays a good bad ass.

I just got back a little while ago and it was great. The planet they were on was a little too Earth-like, but it was still an awesome movie.
Unspoken - 7/10/2010, 5:23 AM
Totally agree that the Fishburne character was terrible. They would have been better off not having him there.

Vital - 7/10/2010, 6:51 AM
I'm amazed that some people are saying this movie was terrible. You people have literally NO TASTE if that's the case. I bet it's hard to impress your asses if you thought THIS movie sucked. It's almost ridiculous, but then again, people on the internet have thee worst opinions about movies that I've ever seen. People will talk shit on every movie known to man but claim to be moviebuffs, it's silly. If you think this movie sucks, just gtfo the internet in general cause you're ruining the fun for everybody else since other people will SEE your stupid ass comment and not go see it like they should, thus creating no box office revenue, thus making it so they will give up on our favorite franchises because they didn't "sell". No one wants that. Especially when a movie is good, you don't need to be so negative about it. I mean, I could understand if EVERYONE agreed that it was shitty film, but it's not, so stop wasting everyone's time and tricking people into not seeing it by giving your ridiculously overthetop reaction to a film.

P.S. The members of this site need to go see it, it's pretty good. 2nd best Predator movie I'd say, and I liked Predator 2 as well, this movie seems independent from any sequels other *minor spoiler but not too revealing with how I'm wording it* than the reference to Arnold and his team from the chicka, that's it. Musical score is almost the same as the original, every song you heard in the original was in this movie, which will make you giddy (I know it made me smile). Go see it!
