Mark Miller Squeezed Out Of Wanted 2

The writer of Disney's 'Pooh's Heffalump Movie' and 'Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie' Evan Spiliotopoulos will pen the sequel to last years Wanted.
Evan Spiliotopoulos will be working with concepts created by Chris Morgan. No word on why Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, who co-wrote the original are not returning. When the news dropped last May of the Wanted Sequel the trades announced that they were attached to part 2.

Timur Bekmambetov is reported to be on board as director and producer of Wanted 2. Marc E. Platt and Jim Lemley are said to be Producing as well.

The original Wanted was based on a comic book by Mark Miller and J.G. Jones. Kick Ass will be Mark Millers next ComicBookMovie due out in theaters later this year.

Spiliotopoulos has penned another comics adaptation, 'Agnes Quill', based on the graphic novel by Dave Roman.

Should we all join together when we all let that "Why in the world" sigh, after reading this news. What in the Hell? Really, what the Hell? Pooh? Why is the writer from Pooh being attached to the anticipated Wanted sequel? Why isn't Mark Miller contributing in any way? It's almost like the studio sat there and thought up ways to ruin Wanted 2. Lets see we will take the most successful elements out of the first Wanted and replace them with elements from Pooh's Heffalump Movie'. Nothing against Pooh, it is successful in its own franchise, I'm just trying to figure out how writing for Pooh qualifies anyone to helm what is to be a sure box office success especially if they bring back Jolie.

adamant877 - 4/17/2009, 10:28 AM
You know, the first Stuart Little movie was written by M. Night Shyamalan. He then did the Sixth Sense. I know, most people will say that "the movie sucked" or " he sucks". intelligent points, I know, but I'm just saying that most writers can write almost anything.

Unless your the guy that wrote Forrest Gump/Benjamin Bunton..
TucsonRican - 4/17/2009, 10:36 AM
I cant wait to see when Pooh curves a bullet. That should be a sight to see.
Franzacon - 4/17/2009, 10:43 AM
@ Franzacon--- LOL I can sooo see Pooh going ape-sh*t and busting out two pistols in slo-mo, when his jar of honey gets blasted! LMAO :)
SpiderMan209 - 4/17/2009, 10:46 AM
LOL, Pooh curving a bullet would be FTMFW.
GameAnime45 - 4/17/2009, 10:47 AM
I hated the first movie anyway so bring on another crappy sequel! If Jolie is in it i might rent it
Rorschach01 - 4/17/2009, 10:51 AM
why the hell would Jol!e be in it? did you watch the whole thing? right up to the part when her head exploded?
Keven - 4/17/2009, 10:57 AM
the first movie was far off from the comics, there were a few elements in there from the source material but the majority of it was not.

I'm getting kinda tired of these comic movies having to be based in our reality, by doing this they take out a lot of stuff that makes the comic what it is, now the reality concept works for batman but that is only because his world can easily transfer into ours, by taking out the creatures of the underworld and stuff from Wanted it took away plot elements from the main story which basically made it nothing like the comic.

comics are based in a fantasy realm and the movies should follow that if the live action movies can't follow the simple concept of sticking to source material then they should just make all comic movies in CGI.
Osiris - 4/17/2009, 11:01 AM
I cant wait to see the Heffalump kick someones ass.
LastSon1027 - 4/17/2009, 11:04 AM
also this is why we will never see the shi-ar in the X-Men movies and also why the phoenix story line was ruined in X3
Osiris - 4/17/2009, 11:05 AM
omg moar bitching by little bitches
CaptainAmerica - 4/17/2009, 11:18 AM
What a let down. First they rape the original story by making the lead character and his friends "good guys" that look out for the world, completely stifling the real originality that the story had brought to comics, and now they hire poo bear to write the new one.

You never know, can't judge a writer with apples and oranges. He could be a bad ass writer just waiting to break out of those cartoon chains. I won't judge the new guy, but hell am I glad they got rid of the original screen writers. Talk about missing the point. The movie was fun in and of itself, but it was a tame ball-less remake of the comic. Here's hoping the second one is better.

Name is Mark Millar by the way, he's a scott, not a brit :)

GUNSMITH - 4/17/2009, 11:26 AM
Keven i did indeed watch the whole thing(hard as it was to) but theres talk of her returning for the sequel. Sure that wouldnt even be the mosr ridiculous thing about the movie.
Rorschach01 - 4/17/2009, 11:36 AM
hahahahaha.........pooh....
johndalb - 4/17/2009, 11:37 AM
yeah. I'm pretty sure that the most ridiculous thing was that d@mned loom.

Maybe Jolie curved the bullet so that it went around her brainpan when it entered her skull like a skateboard in a pool, then it came out of her other ear.

I would believe that s#!% over a loom of fate any day.

Coats - 4/17/2009, 11:42 AM
This is BS. They need the guy that did the first one. It was super bad ass.
Tobuttica - 4/17/2009, 11:53 AM
I was subjested to this POS. So Morgan Freeman actually survived? Wait! I don't caer and don't want to know. This movie was hideous.
SirPrize - 4/17/2009, 12:00 PM
I have a signed copy of the DVD but Millar was drunk when he signed it and got my birthday wrong.

Yay for Drink!!!

TheAnswer - 4/17/2009, 12:06 PM
wow - had no idea they were thinking about bringing back Jolie for a sequel - considering a bull3t went through her godd@mn head - same with Freeman. None of that makes any sense.

and yeah - sure the book was better than the film - miles better, but could you imagine the movie getting made if it was a direct adaptation? Johnny Two D!cks? I don't see studios jumping all over that.
Keven - 4/17/2009, 12:25 PM
You know these days its pretty easy to recover from a bullet to the head. First, denial. Then just take some aspirin and you're fine!
Betty - 4/17/2009, 12:36 PM
I must admit I see no reason why they need to make a sequel to Wanted. Hell after the first movie all I "Wanted " was my money back. What a piece of trash.
LastSon1027 - 4/17/2009, 1:08 PM
hahaha I thought that was a belated April Fool's joke.........Pooh????
takknd22 - 4/17/2009, 1:19 PM
I honestly would have been ok with gettting rid of the hero/villian thing, and just making them a secret order of assassins that no one can touch. But they needed to be BAD GUYS. The whole point of the comic was that some kid who grew up without his father was looking for some kind of validation in his useless life, and chose to become something great and terrible to live up to a dead father's expectations, rather than being good and normal.
Being the king of the bastards was better than being a "nice guy". He wanted his father's love in the end... words from the author himself. The end of the story in the book was him finally getting that validation, but deciding that he still wants to be an evil bastard, because... lets face it, his life was pathetic before.

The post-modern take on morality vs. gain in the superhero world was important and frightening. The movie was a normal zero to hero action flick with cool FX. It just reaffirms that hollywood is no where near as modern in their story telling as comics are. Yeah, I said it; Comics are a more germane, culturally relevant medium than Hollywood films are. I'm not saying that indie films don't up the bar in their own corner, but Wanted was not an indie comic. Top Cow books make tombraider, they make Darkness and witchblade... but they were willing to take a chance on a tough story like Wanted... Hollywood passed and made an action flick with attitude... Just saying.
Coats - 4/17/2009, 1:27 PM
i have a message for whoever made this choice.

grif - 4/17/2009, 1:51 PM
Loved that. If only he would have put a bullet in her head like he did in the book. sigh....

Does this mean I'm completely deranged?
Coats - 4/17/2009, 1:53 PM
Haha. BTW, sorry for the rant, grif.
Coats - 4/17/2009, 1:59 PM
great comment Coats i agree fully.

haha whats strange is i didnt know what this article was about untill someone mentioned jolie and the curved bullet dont think i finished watching this movie and probaly wouldnt see a sequel

i would watch winnie the pooh as an assassin though :] lets see someone try n steal his honey once he is equipped with 2 desert eagles
loganaspatch - 4/17/2009, 2:09 PM
didnt really like wanted Either, soooo i dont care much but the Idea of seeing some fan make a WAnted the Pooh animation will be great.Stupid execs you have to at least honor the creator , but i guess the pay check will help millar deal with his grief. It sucks having your baby taken from you though.
shibazz - 4/17/2009, 2:17 PM
"Dingo stole my baby!"
adamant877 - 4/17/2009, 4:53 PM
nick cage for the dingo that took mark millars baby
darthstern - 4/17/2009, 5:49 PM
I wasnt familiar with the comic i thought the movie stood on its own ok, kinda reminded me of crank, i went in expecting a movie with a lot of action and little plot so i wasnt dissapointed. As for sticking to source material, come on people its hollywood, how many times are we gonna have this discussion. Any one ever heard of a graphic noval called I Am Legend? If you read it and went to see the movie then i bet you said WTF? just like i did. If you want to talk about not sticking to source material, the only thing that was the same was his [frick]ing name. Dont get me wrong, the movie was good. They just should have not called in I AM Legend. If you have not read the novel you are truly missing out, also check out a band called He Is Legend which takes their name from the novel. bottom line hollywood doesnt have to stick to source material to make money, so why would they, in their minds they are making it better. So i doubt the sequel for wanted will stick to source material either, lets all just come to terms and save ourselves the trouble
Grizzly - 4/17/2009, 6:06 PM
I liked WANTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I supposed i liked it coz i never got round to reading the comic book! I SAY YAY TO WANTED 2!!!!!! ; ) Um yeah GRIZZLY lol!
LEEE777 - 4/17/2009, 6:06 PM
You lot make me laugh!!!! : D ... You moan about WANTED but dont care that the ULTIMATE FURY is F'ing up THE AVENGER MOVIES???? GO FIGURE!!!! : D
LEEE777 - 4/17/2009, 6:11 PM
@LEEE777

I actually don't mind the ultimate universe, and all the marvel movies have some aspect of that universe in them now a days anyways, they combine the original stuff with the ultimate stuff.
Osiris - 4/17/2009, 6:19 PM
oh and who else do u want to play as Nick Fury, David Hasselhoff? cause let me tell you that worked out great the last time............. >.>
Osiris - 4/17/2009, 6:20 PM
Grizz, you should check out the book they made the comic from. I am Legend is a classic. Definitely worth the read if you enjoyed the comic.... and yeah, waaaay better than any of the three movies they've made from it.

This is a great copy, and cheap! -
http://www.amazon.com/I-Am-Legend-Richard-Matheson/dp/B000TZCSE2/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240014482&sr=1-6
Coats - 4/17/2009, 6:31 PM
Thanks Coats, i had heard it was originally a novel, then turned into a graphic novel, i'll def check that out.
Grizzly - 4/17/2009, 6:38 PM
Haha totally agree with you on that one, Osiris. The original comics went a bit stale, so the Ultimates were a refreshing update.

And Leee777... I understand where you are coming from, but when you adapt a comic book to a movie there will be no actor that will satisfy all fans for portraying their favorite character. Millar liked Sam Jackson so he made Fury in that image, and naturally, they had Jackson play Fury for the movie adaptation. Just made sense. Just be happy they didn't get somebody like Nicholas Cage to play Fury ;)
Shadowelfz - 4/17/2009, 9:09 PM
wanted 2 are you serious they shouldn't even make a wanted 2 the first one was ok if you never read the graphic novel but if you have then Wanted th movie blew major balls... i mean how hard could it have been for them to make the graphic novel into a movie and make it look like the novel i mean we all know it would still get the R rating and who wouldn't want to see characters like shithead and [frick]wit onscreen that would have been awesome.
dogchasingcars - 4/17/2009, 10:39 PM
Nothing screams this movie will blow hard like "We got the dude from Pooh! to direct it!"
Sortis - 4/17/2009, 11:49 PM
so............what does this mean for the video game story?

wasn't that supposed to be the direct sequel?
SGA - 4/17/2009, 11:54 PM
Osiris is 100% right. This is what I have been thinking about for a while now. The bottom line is that it seems to me that the American film industry want's to slowly but surely ease out comic based movies by taking the basic elements of a comic and using it as a foundation for any old action movie to the point that it's unrecognisable from it's source material. I guess that the only way most of the general public is aware that it has been adapted from a comic is from the opening credits acknowledgement ie. MARVEL, DC, etc. The way forward to me is going CGI so that way the full integrity of the medium is kept intact, sort of like seeing your favourite Graphic Novels brought to life, if Hollywood choose to extract source material from comics that's o.k too as long as we get what we want. that way everyone can be kept happy.
CHAS65 - 4/18/2009, 2:10 AM
I'm with LEEE777. I didn't read the book and despite a very dodgy opening and the loom of fate that somehow weaves itself I enjoyed it! Sometimes if we dwell on one or two bad points we can ruin an otherwise entertaining movie. Before people get at me, I can see that if this didn't hold up to the source material in any way you would be pissed.

Wanted 2 is not needed though! And if this Pooh guy is writing it I'm not sure I'd be able to follow the plot twists!
Howlett04 - 4/18/2009, 3:04 AM
@Coats Agree with ur rant
Killian - 4/18/2009, 7:49 AM
I never read it and i still hated it! That Mcavoy dude has one of those faces you just want to punch..and it didnt help that he played such a tosser. It was boring, predictable and over the top(not in a good way)..the only good thing about it was Jolis ass
Rorschach01 - 4/18/2009, 10:04 AM
Such repetative arguemtns everytime something comes out.
Yes we got it...

1. Source Material (they never stick to it)
2. Actors, someones never happy with them because theres the classic A. "Dude, they're going to [frick] up the role." B. "They look nothing like how the character looks."
3. Director is all wrong because for some reason he doesn't have the right "vision" and takes to many "creative libertys".
4. Complaining that story is not believeable. (Kind of hard to state that when it comes from A COMIC BOOK)
5. The movie is to predictable (Well everyone of them would be 100% predictable if they stuck the source material entirely. If you've read it then you know exactly what happens next when you see the movie.)
6. Insert Nicholas Cage joke (Look at the mans older work it is great stuff.)

Anything else I'm missing feel free to insert...
VenomIsOnMyRibs - 4/18/2009, 11:45 AM
Rorschach01 - I have to say that Mcavoy was very disappointing in Wanted if you've seen "Inside I'm Dancing" you will know that he is an extremely talented actor. He pulled off a very tough role in that movie and was totally convincing. For personal reasons I would know better than almost anyone on that so I dare anyone to disagree.
Howlett04 - 4/18/2009, 2:14 PM
Who says that true art is lost in Hollywood... Didn't you ever see the great painting "A Starry Night part 2: Red Morning, Sailors Warning", or the prequel to Edvard Munch's The Scream, "The Muffled Cry". I mean really, Hollywood wouldn't intentionally [frick] something up... would they?
valeriesghost - 4/18/2009, 3:03 PM
i like how CBM auto corrects the word [frick].
valeriesghost - 4/18/2009, 3:11 PM

@ OSIRIS @ Im not gonna argue with you about the ULTIMATE FURY! I done my bitching about that, he's signed to do 9movies, though i dont see why S.H.I.E.L.D should have any involvement in a AVENGERS movies!!! But atleast keep to the friggin' right UNIVERSE! It's like having MAXWELL LORD involved instead of with the JLA!!!! Hey why dont we have NIGHT OWL join up and SPAWN!!! AVENGERS R AVENGERS! ULTIMATES R ULTIMATES!! I love SAMS movies = UNBREAKABLE, STAR WARS, PULP, Hell i even liked THE SPIRIT lol! Just don't think he's FURY, Coz he aint the real FURY! End of! NIC CAGE @ SHADOWELFZ @ Hmmmmm??? I think DARTHSTERN would love that lol!!!! Heck, i would'nt mind it, though he's GHOST RIDER!!! As for HOFF? That was a TV MOVIE in the 90's, get over it!!! Shall we bring up the Tv movie GENERATION X when we talk Wolverine Origins,,,, NO lol! Why cant they make WANTED 2????? Can be a different set of guys, different place, Cool Action!!! If you ask the normal person on the street about WANTED they'd say yeah its a good movie! [frick] [frick] [frick] [frick] heh heh heh! : D
LEEE777 - 4/18/2009, 3:57 PM
heh heh heh!
valeriesghost - 4/18/2009, 4:45 PM
I enjoyed the comic and the movie, but as separate entities. before i watched the movie Mark Millar said that he was very happy with the movie so i kept that in mind when i watched it. i feel like they changed to much stuff, but i learned to separate the two, you have to, its two different mediums. But if they [frick] up superman again i'm going postal.
valeriesghost - 4/18/2009, 5:10 PM
