I saw the midnite show of this movie and it was outstanding! By far the best movie I have seen in years. By the way, the film was shot in a documentary way (like Cloverfield), but the cam was not shaky at all. Every scene was distinguishable, you know what's going on at all times. The majority of the action scenes were shot like any other film and it never seemed to take away from the strong realistic overtone that casts over the movie. The story was full of discrimination, love, hope, and courage and was cleverly woven into and very original story instead of drowning it out like every other big action "alien invasion" or "end of the world" flick that comes out every summer. D9 is a sci-fi and political film that has you hooked from the begining with its witty humor before it turning into a hardcore action film at the blink of an eye! The set up for a sequel is there (District 10), the ending though brief as it may seem, has all the clues towards a sequel being made for this film. This is the best alien encounter film there is! Those who don't like this film, simply don't appreciate true art. I've also noticed that Peter Jackson has been receiving all the credit for this film, granted the FX's were flawless without a doubt, however it was the story that really made this movie great and Neil should receive all the credit. I truely love this film. It was better and different in a lot of ways from the trailer of the film. I'm looking forward to the sequel and expecting it to be even better than D9, but in the meantime, I will hold District 9 at the top of my Favorites List for a very long time......retr0.
LEEE777 - 8/15/2009, 11:42 AM
retr0 @ It cant be better than this years WATCHMAN dude surely??? : /

retr0g0dfather - 8/15/2009, 11:52 AM
Sorry guys, Legion does not look good at all. The CGI looks a little out dated like it did with G.I. Joe. I saw the REDBAND trailer before seeing it with District 9 and it looks awfull. I think its cool to see Denis Quad doing a handfull of movies this year, but I think his best will be Pandorum (Sept/18).
retr0g0dfather - 8/15/2009, 12:03 PM
LEEE777 @ Watchmen was great! No Question! However, they are two different films. I keep the Comicbook Movies in their own category. I loved the Watchmen and I also loved the Novel and that's just it, it wasn't original. District 9 was original. I knew what to expect with Watchmen and every other Comicbook film cause I read the books still to this day. When a film is original like District 9, it catches you off guard cause you don't know what to expect when going to see it. There is no book, no T.V. show, no novel, its not a remake or reboot, its something new. So yes, it is better than Watchmen and it is the best film I've seen this year by far.
longbowhunter - 8/15/2009, 12:28 PM
Cool, I'm glad to hear the movie was what everyone expected. I may wait for it to hit the local $3 theatre though.
Bijous - 8/15/2009, 12:43 PM
I'm going to see it tomorrow! I can't wait! I'm starved for good sci-fi!
LEEE777 - 8/15/2009, 1:33 PM
Retr0 @ I do that too man with comic book movies and Cheers man!

Longbow @ Only 3 bucks????!!! Damn, id go every day lol.

Flames809 @ lol, okay i'll keep that in mind dude, an talking alien suits 'n' stuff, i think THE GUYVER needs to be back even if its a direct 2 dvd movie, though id love a live tv show of it!!!

I mean, who don't luv the GUYVER!!!
flames809 - 8/15/2009, 1:34 PM

LEEE777 - 8/15/2009, 1:34 PM

Wow, these guys really shouldnt be reviewing anything. They have like no idea what they are talking about when it comes to movie making.
RorMachine - 8/15/2009, 4:55 PM
Really? Do enlighten us kylemf88 , in the secrets of the almighty making of movies!

First off, your wrong! And second, all it takes is a pair of eyes and ears to give your opinion on a movie does it not?
NightAvenger - 8/15/2009, 5:06 PM

gtrman - 8/15/2009, 11:58 PM
Retr0's review was better than those two shleprocks. The movie, imho, was fantastic. There wasn't a lot of shakey-cam and the pacing of the film was perfect. There had better be a sequel in the works.
LEEE777 - 8/16/2009, 3:55 AM
What the friggin' hell is shleprocks?????

An i might come back with a comeback lol.

gtrman @ I think what these guys do is great man, and its fun dude!!!

Well i still ain't seen it and should go to bed lol, bit drunkkkkk, noooo sleepp.

Didn't like BLAIR WITCH PROJECT but EROTIC WITCH PROJECT is the bomb!!! Everyone should get that! Oh yeahhhh!! ; )

Oh yeah, i loved CLOVERFIELD (Apart from the end), So im gonna love this one big time!!!!

jman1977 - 8/16/2009, 4:34 PM
The only shleprock I see around here is a bald guy peeking at his camera to make his Avatar. Seriously dude, what are you some kinda pedophile?

At Lee: I think White Out will be the next one we do. This week I am gonna tally all the votes up to the different polls I ran and put out a poll results article.

Stay tuned for our Special Presentation of The Hall Of Heroes Documentary!! Coming Soon!
RorMachine - 8/16/2009, 4:49 PM
What is a shleprock?
jman1977 - 8/16/2009, 8:05 PM
I honestly have no clue? Anyone know?
gtrman - 8/17/2009, 12:38 AM
Lee@
haha you're drunk as a skunk! A toast to you good sir!

Wow, a pedophile?

PS a Shleprock is like a Shlep, but Flintstonesesque. It's not derogatory like say, pedophile, but more along the lines of good humored ribbing...if you have a good sense of humor and not a retaliatory streak that provokes you to say accusatory things like...pedophile...which kind of disgusts me. Being compared to a monster for something silly like my avatar picture.

So to answer your question, no.
LEEE777 - 8/17/2009, 6:25 AM
gtrman @ Yeah not drunk no more lol, even past the hangover! ; D

I don't think JMAN meant that nasty, just a comeback lol.

Seriously though, i doubt anyone on this site would know what a Shleprock is, i thought you made it up lol. I gotta write it down! ; )

JMAN @ Cool dude, though last i saw a PUSSYCAT DOLL was wayyyyyyyyyyyy a head in the WW POLL heh, wtf lol! Though i gotta admit she is fine! ; )

I wonder how TERA PATRICK did heh heh, that's abit like having LANNY BARBIE as SPIDER-WOMAN lol!

Hey i don't watch much porn, well not when my bird comes on this site sometimes lol.

Cool looking forward to ya HALL OF HEROES and WHITE OUT review fellas!

Keep up the good work and you too JOHNNY!!!
jman1977 - 8/17/2009, 8:22 AM
Thats a good thing gtrman, Ror, Lee, and myself would have had to team up and take you out!! We don't take kindly to their kind around here. I will officially put shleprock in my vocab and upgrade my sense of humor one notch. Thanks dude.
gtrman - 8/17/2009, 10:22 AM
The etymology of Shleproch by Darren aka gtrman

Actually I can't take credit for Shleprock. A buddy of mine said it while mentioning some of the guys that walk into his music store, walk around aimlessly touching everything, ask a lot of inane questions, buy a guitar pick and leave, taking an hour and a half to do so. I think he made it up (though he did watch a lot of cartoons in prison), but I understood exactly what he meant having worked at a Sam Ash for 10 years myself, so I made it a part of my vernacular. I've called my old man a Shleprock, though he works hard, so the word can have double meanings.

Example. I would never call Supermike a Shleprock, as 1)He is not a dear friend of mine and 2)he is an asshole, which is several notches above Shlep or Shleprock on the demeaning totem.

Some famous Shleprocks in history;
Larry and/or Curly from the Three Stooges.
Barney Rubble of the Flintstones
Kevin James from King of Queens
Louie Anderson from nothing special...ever
Howard Stern (it's never a weight thing, though it can be a contributing factor)
Chris Griffin from Family Guy
John Goodman from Roseanne
Rob Reiner aka Meathead
Jason Alexander who is actually a Nebbish, but that qualifies him as a Shleprock.

There's tons of famous Shleprocks, and you all probably know a few. Just think of the people you either love most that just can't seem to get a break no matter how hard they try, or the guy you're glad you're not. That's probably the Shleprock in your life.

Keven@
I've watched those Primetime shows. I love when they admit on camera to having seen the program. I crack up every time!

Cheers all!!!
