Brett Ratner Sounds Off About His Conan Departure!

Brett Ratner voices his opinion about being replaced as director of Conan.
"I really wanted to do that," Ratner confessed to MTV News about his departure from the "Conan" movie. "I'm sad about it, because I loved the script."

Ratner goes on to explain a little about the Conan script:

"The script is very cool, contemporary ... it's going back to the original source material—the mythology of the characters."

On why he was replaced, Brett Ratner had this to say:

"It just didn't work out—scheduling and stuff," he said. "It's an incredible project, and Marcus will do a great job."

Marcus as in Marcus Nispel. Marcus has directed Friday the 13th, Pathfinder and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Yes Brett, I agree with you. Marcus will do a great job with Conan.

Yes, Conan is well over due for a glorious return to the big screen. Even better that Ratner has been shown the door, he'd just dumb the whole thing down.

Let's hope Marcus Nispel can properly bring the sullen eyed womanizer to life.

WeaponX @ Lets hope! ; )

I gotta a felling we're gonna be seeing the RED SONJA before this movie darn it, not that ive got anything again'st SONJA, but CONAN should come first!

@LEEE777 - I wouldn't be all that surprised if they are using Red Sonja as a testing ground for the public's appetite to go and see a movie like that. If it bodes well, I think Conan will be fast tracked.

GET A NO NAME ACTOR THAT LOOKS LIKE THE COMIC BOOK CONAN AND CAN ACT AND WE GOT SOMETHING
GUNSMITH - 8/21/2009, 9:46 AM
huh. Well all this means is that now I actually get to watch Conan. If ratbastard had directed it I wouldn't have watched it at all. I have officially boycotted his movies for eternity

I'm personally glad that Ratner isn't going to do, at least at this time, another superhero movie. I'd rather have 100 more Rush Hours than one more X-Men 3.
JohnnyWellens - 8/21/2009, 10:32 AM
Glad Ratner's out too. Such a tool.
LexLuthor - 8/21/2009, 10:50 AM
Love Conan series. Maybe Arnold could Cameo or something.
Spock - 8/21/2009, 11:05 AM
Ratner is an idiot
Weiner123 - 8/21/2009, 11:08 AM
I'm glad he is out. I didn't like what he did with X3. The first two Conan films where awesome, wonder who they would get to play the role. Please don't get The Rock!! That would be a great poll to put up. Who should play Conan?

Have any of you guys seen PATHFINDER??? I have, and it was terrible. I'm not so sure this is a step up....more like diving out of the way of a car only to be hit by a bus!

UPDATE:

unnamed source quoted anonymous producer on why Ratner was replaced...

"We realized we were about to make a movie directed by Brett Ratner. And his movies eat the corn out of my sh*t."

If only all producers felt this way.

did anyone else laugh hysterically when all those indians were jumping into Karl Urban's spike pit trap while he was yelling, "Nooooo!" as he watched his brethren do spinning back flips directly into spiked death.

lol. Pathfinder ate so much ass. Nispel's only good movie was the Chainsaw reboot. And even then - things don't look well for Conan - aside from the fact that this dude has directed R rated action. That's about it.

Pathfinder did suck, but I thought Friday the 13th was pretty good. Script was kinda lame, and it had some horrible acting, but I liked how they had two "good" girls last awhile, i really had no idea the one chick was gonna bite it, really surprised me.

Plus they made Jason Bad-ass again, not a super-strong slow as hell decaying zombie-corpse.
Hesse - 8/21/2009, 6:38 PM
i'm glad he's off the project; i dislike brett ratner's work. his directing style reminds me of made for tv movies. good in small doses with lots of commercials in between.
Weeton - 8/21/2009, 6:56 PM
Well, the first two Conan films SUCKED.

Take an original Robert E Howard story, make a movie of that. Enough with this "rework" "reset" "revisioning" BS. Where did these screenwriters get their freaking hubris?

The original Conan stories are freaking awesome, VERY well-written, very enjoyable. But just drop the star-power crap. Grace Jones did okay in her role, but come on, there are SO many great actors out there trying to find work, many of them far more talented than the highest-paid actors out there. Give us an unknown, and give them a chance to shine.

And, no, I am no actor.
