Hello everyone, MrCBM56 here. Today, I'm going to give you my thoughts on why I think 'Guardians of the Galaxy' will be a great movie. Then I'm going to give you my speculation/thoughts on The Avengers 2. So let's begin!
Now when Guardians of the Galaxy was announced at SDCC 12, many fans were left shaking their heads and asking, "why not black panther?" Or, "why not Ant-man". Many assumed it was to introduce Thanos so he can eventually be the villain in Avengers 2. That was obviously scrapped as ULTRON will be the main antagonist in Avengers 2. So, what is the point of the Guardians having a movie? I believe it is to expand the universe. All the Marvel films leading to the Avengers and all the marvel phase 2 films prior to Guardians are set on earth. Even Thor for the most part. It's not called the Marvel Cinematic Earth. It's called the Marvel Cinematic UNIVERSE. And I believe Guardians will finally establish the universe within.
I believe if done right, Guardians of the Galaxy can be a great movie. Many people called the Guardians Avengers in space. Not true. Not true at all. Guardians are so much more, if not better than the Avengers. While The Avengers do stop threats that could potentially destroy earth and kill humans or whatever. The Guardians stop threats that could eliminate all sentiment life. These guys have dealt with Thanos, the annihilation wave, the annihilation conquest, etc. They are purely bad ass. But back to the movie, it's a lot harder to make sure you have to right feeling for a movie, than writing it on paper. But I believe Gunn have and will achieve that. Here is a list of reasons why I think that.
The cast is just...so all over the place. This is without a doubt Marvel most craziest cast. In a good way. It has a lot of diversity, a lot of incredible actors/actresses, you have a wrestler who many people are doubting (Bautista), it's just very talented. I believe this cast is Marvel's best yet. I know, you now think I'm crazy! But I stand by what I say. The cast has
excellent chemistry. Here are a few examples on why I think that:
Those pictures are only a few of what I call excellent chemistry. You can find many more on James Gunn twitter.
You can tell that the cast is VERY humble. Chris Pratt took a risk at actually becoming healthy for the role and getting fit, Gunn has said many times how happy he is to get the gig, and Bautista has said many times how grateful he is to be in the situation he's in.
Skip to about 1 minute in to see how grateful and satisfied Bautista is
You could tell he felt uncomfortable and very awkward. That's not a bad thing though! He's getting use to the fame, and he's going to need to after he dominates the role next year!
For those, like myself, who were luck enough to go to comic-con and let alone enter Hall H, saw the incredible Guardians footage. It was VERY awesome. And very, very, very funny! From that one little scene you could tell that James Gunn has wrote an incredibly awesome script. The footage kept you engaged because it wasn't boring. It wasn't just a action clip. It was very light heart and didn't really take it self seriously. They introduced you to the characters, and they did it in a very funny orderly fashion. From John C Reily clever dialogue, to Chris Pratt very funny middle finger joke, it was just very cool. And you can bet your ass this movie will be funny. Here are examples on why I think so:
The dedication is unbelievable. I'm going to start with Chris Pratt. I know I already stated how he became healthy, but at Comic-Con, he stated that for his birthday, instead of getting the traditional birthday cake, he bought a a VEGETABLE tray that said, Happy Birthday Chris Pratt. And he ate it all. Even if I wanted to become healthy, I'm not sure if I would do that. I know you're probably thinking, actors get in shape for roles all the time what's so special about that? We'll for a guy who has admitted of being over weight and has dealt with problems with that, I think that's pretty damn great. That's just my opinion though, some of you might NOT feel the same.
And Now, I go to Karen Gillian. WOW. I must say I was very surprised to see her shave her head. She could have easily wore a bald cap like a lot of actors/actresses do these days, but no. She SHAVED her entire head. Now Nebula in the comics does have hair at certain times, but I feel and I'm sure Karen and Gunn felt that in order to make her look/act bad ass is to go with the bald version. And remember, she is a space pirate. She is not meant to look all beautiful and look like a model. She is suppose to look terrifying and scary. (Not to say she looks terrifying being bald)
Now that will conclude why I think Guardians of The Galaxy will be a great film. They may not be the best reasons, but they are certainly reasonable reasons to why I think so.
Anyways, time to move on to my theory on the origin of ULTRON for Avengers 2.
Now, when Age of Ultron was announced at SDCC 2013, many fans were VERY excited. Many ASSUMED that this movie will have the introduction of Ant-Man/Henry Pym into the MCU. That was quickly denied by Joss Whedon who stated that Ultron will have his own origin story to fit into his story for AOU. After that statement, a lot of fans were quite disappointed. For a couple reasons actually.
1. They are really disrespecting source of material.
2. Besides Ultron, Ant-Man does not have a very good rouge gallery.
Not when Edgar Wright, (the director/writer of the Planned Ant-man film), was asked about this, he stated that Ultron was NEVER part of his story. This was my reaction-
HOW THE HELL CAN YOU HAVE A GREAT Ant-Man STORY IF IT DOESN'T INVOLVE ULTRON?!?!
I'm no sure how, and we may never know until the movie is officially released.
For a second I thought Joss Whedon kind of played Edgar wright and took Ultron first. But Edgar Wright and Whedon have went out to dinner, and met up with each other on several occasions so I'm assuming they both are on the same page.
We've been waiting for Ant-Man for nearly 10 years so it better be worth it.
Anyways back on track, when it was announced that Henry Pym in fact WON'T be the creator of Ultron, many fans guessed that Tony Stark would be.
A lot of people were angry because they saw it as another Tony Stark Show.
I did also...for a moment. Here are some theories fans have regarding the origin of Ultron.
1. Tony Stark creates Ultron. While it does make sense, and obviously the most logical, especially the way IM3 ended, I just don't see it happening.
2.Jarvis becomes Ultron. Again, while it does seem logical especially with the way IM3 ended, I just don't see it happening.
Here are some reasons why I don't see it happening.
Besides from the obvious fact that Tony Stark will be the central character, Joss Whedon stated-
“By not trying to [go bigger]. By being smaller. More personal, more painful. By being the next thing that should happen to these characters, and not just a rehash of what seemed to work the first time. By having a theme that is completely fresh and organic to itself.”-Joss Whedon
Two things in that statement caught my attention.
1. Not just a rehash of what seemed to work the first time.
Obviously Joss wants to come up with something original and not another invasion type film. That's why they only borrowed the Age of Ultron title and is not adapting the full story.
2. By having a theme that is completely fresh and organic to itself.
That is why I think the Tony Stark accusations are false. Joss wants something original, and something new. That is why I think Tony Stark will NOT be the creator, because it isn't really original.
With that said, you're still probably wondering, what do I think. We'', I think the creator of Ultron will in fact be...
You're probably wondering why MODOK. We'll let me explain. Back in February 23rd of this year, Joss Whedon was asked,
What is your general philosophy for Avengers 2?
With out hesitating, with out thinking, Joss Whedon responded, and I quote...
Now at this time, many fans thought that was a clear Thanos reference since Thanos in the comics does have a strange fetish for death and is even in love with it. But now that has been denied, what does MODOK have to do with death?
Will, lets look at MODOK analogies of his name.
I think in my opinion, that is a clear reference to MODOK.
But while thinking about this, I remembered that the directors of Captain America:The Winter Solider, said that the movie leads straight into AV2.
For a moment I thought my theory was wrong, but then I thought about it for a second. What if maybe, Arnim Zola becomes MODOK?
In the comics, Arnim Zola and MODOK aren't all that different. Both geniuses, both foes of The Avengers (Specifically Captain America), both have robotic bodies. So the change up wouldn't be all that bad.
With Toby Jones reportedly reprising his role in The Winter Solider, I feel this is a clear set-up. But obviously, Ultron is the main villain of the film, and not MODOK/Arnim Zola.
I feel for majority of the film, Ultron origin should be unknown. That would pay homage to the earlier comics Ultron was in. For those who don't know, Ultron was a mystery in the comics for sometime.
I feel halfway towards the end of the film, it should be the big reveal, that Ultron was indeed created by MODOK/Arnim Zola, leaving a gateway to a third Captain America film. (since MODOK and Zola are primarily Cap'n villains. )
But how do the Avengers fit in this.
Ultron could be on shield radar, which automatically brings in Hawkeye, Black Widow, and I assume Cap.
Tony Stark sees that Ultron has technology so advanced that he doesn't even know what it is. That brings him in. And it can cause him to build more Iron Man suits.
I'm not sure about Thor, Hulk, or Quicksilver and Scarlett witch. Bruce and Tony now supposedly best friends, that can bring Bruce in because Tony needs his help. With Thor, I'm not sure. We have to still see How The Dark World ends. Also with Quicksilver ans Scarlett Witch, I'm not sure.
What I am sure of is Joss Whedon has some way found a way to bring these characters back together and that this movie will rock.
Another reason I think that Tony Stark will not be the creator is because Joss stated that he knew the story and villain before even doing the first avengers movie. Now this had to be late 2010/early 2011. With the way IM3 ended, Joss could NOT have known IM3 was going to end that way if it wasn't even in post production yet. Just sayin'. Re-writes are possible, (which is needed to connect all the movies together), but I doubt he changed his entire story just to fit Tony Stark in. I'm sure he found a way to fit him in without making him the creator.
Until next time fellow CBM users! Leave your thoughts below, and remember, if my theory on Ultrons Origin is true,
YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST, FOLKS
Until next time! :D
