Like the look. It's a nice blend of the Asian/Asguardian look.
TheManwithaPlan - 2/18/2011, 3:35 PM
lol I was gonna say, looks like a Asgardian Ninha. Very good.
jazzman - 2/18/2011, 3:41 PM
looks good
write33 - 2/18/2011, 3:51 PM
eh, honestly he is the only letdown so far. i wish it was more like the comics. but! so much about this looks awesome that perhaps in context? he'll be ideal.
WellDrawn - 2/18/2011, 3:54 PM
It's funny how everyone points out that having a black guy play Heimdall is inconsistent with Nordic Mythology, yet no one thinks twice when an Asian warrior is thrown into the mix:)
Geeksiah - 2/18/2011, 3:58 PM
@ Adamwest and that's how you can tell the biggots from the usual [female dog]ing fanboys.
Cap82 - 2/18/2011, 3:58 PM
@adamwest lol good point lol either way shouldn't really matter the movie should still be good
CaptainOtter - 2/18/2011, 3:58 PM
@adamwest, the reason no one was upset about an asian being cast is because Hogun is not an Aesir, and has always been portrayed as being somewhat mongolian looking. Heimdall, on the other hand, has always been portrayed as white. So no, fans who complain about Heimdall are not being hypocritical here.
WellDrawn - 2/18/2011, 3:59 PM
Can't blame me for wondering
loganoneil - 2/18/2011, 4:01 PM
Adamwest - Everyone is MISSING THE POINT! These aren't the 'Nordic Gods', these are interdimensional beings with whom the primitive Norse people MISTOOK as 'gods'! In that context, a 'black guy' playing Heimdall and an 'Asian warrior' playing Hogun CAN exsist and make PERFECT SENSE! PEOPLE, come off your high horses! From what I've seen so far, this is shaping up to quite possibly be... the GREATEST COMIC BOOK MOVIE EVER MADE!

Yeah, I said it - so what? Remember, I said it first!
FEJ - 2/18/2011, 4:04 PM
looks sharp
GUNSMITH - 2/18/2011, 4:09 PM
IM COOL WITH WHAT THEY DID, IM THINKING HE WANTED TO KEEP NOTICEABLE THINGS ABOUT THE CHARACTER BUT NOT GET IT SO INTO A SPECIFIC EARTH CULTURE, BUT MORE OF ITS OWN ASGARDIAN THING..

HE KEPT THE MACE AND HE KEPT HIM ASIAN, IM COOL WITH THAT.
golden123 - 2/18/2011, 4:10 PM
@adamwest: I complained about the black guy, but I don't know who Hogun the Grim is. For all I know he could be asian in the comics which wouldn't give me the right to complain.
EDIT: apparently he is asian in the comics. Looking at Intruders post. Therefor why would people complain.
jazzman - 2/18/2011, 4:23 PM
@golden123

but yet the idoit who created Boycott Thor website dont like the idea of a Black and Asian actors starring in Thor

@grif

yes his from the comics
Exiles - 2/18/2011, 4:23 PM
@golden123 because some idiots think this is straight adaption of norse mythology when its not its adapting the comic where asgardians are not GODS.

Hogun the Grim is a badass long as he has attitude from the comics doesn't really matter what his costume looks like. And its funny how people can complain about something with out actualy knowing anything about marvels version of Thor

@Jazzman Agreed dude, there not complaining because they care about the comic there just complaining to stir shit up
marvel72 - 2/18/2011, 4:25 PM
cool,can't wait for this.

29.4.11 won't come quick enough.
kurekurcubic - 2/18/2011, 4:27 PM
this guy is gonna be huge.he is in thor,then he plays biggest role after kitsch in battleship and after that he is in 47 ronin!!! WAY...
jazzman - 2/18/2011, 4:34 PM
@kurekurcubic

the guy was already going to be huge his performance in "Mongol" as Genghis Khan prove he was going to be a star

@Exiles

that same guy who created that website had a interview he attack Marvel Studio and Black Panther. but yet he never read the comics.

@ELgUaSoN

how is it funny when its in the comic
Slashercon - 2/18/2011, 4:39 PM
@loganoneil
It's nice to see someone has a BRAIN on this site (and an open mind too.)
Adler - 2/18/2011, 4:40 PM
I think Hogun is a nod to the Huns, which are a well known to norse mythology. Attila aka Atli (Etzel) plays a minor role in the Saga from Sigurd(Siegfried) the Dragonslayer as the second husband of his widow, Gudrun. So, a hunnic warrior in a norse setting is totally in-mythology.
Fairburne69 - 2/18/2011, 4:53 PM
I'm not surprised by all the ignorant comments people make. I've worked in the restaurant industry for 22 years. The stupidity and ignorance of the human race no longer surprises me.
UnfriendlySpidey - 2/18/2011, 5:14 PM
Sweetness! I miss his helm...but still looks awesome! I am so stoked for this movie...Nice find @DCMF!!

Everyone, please check out the latest chapter in my Batman Reboot saga & let me know what you think!! Thanks!

skidz - 2/18/2011, 7:20 PM
Okay, now we need full shots of Heimdall, Fandral and Volstagg. Preferably with weapons in hand.
Cumulactus - 2/18/2011, 7:29 PM
bad ass!! It's Hogun the Grim alright!
AEStark - 2/18/2011, 10:09 PM
Nice. So... Is Baldur in this movie? At all? I haven't seen him yet.
MrSuperheromoviefan - 2/18/2011, 10:51 PM
looks ok
Barakapool - 2/18/2011, 11:30 PM
Nice cast, it makes me really happy that minority like Tadanobu Asano is given a chance, even if it's only a minor role.

Maybe someday Asian actors will be given a chance to play main lead roles like Dragon Ball(Son Goku), Hokuto No Ken(Kenshiro) Street Fighter(Ryu) and Akira.
jimoakley666 - 2/19/2011, 12:03 AM
The only thing I would change about this is to keep his funky 'tache. Maybe in the next one, eh?
Barakapool - 2/19/2011, 12:10 AM
I agree! maybe his mustache will grow in the sequel.
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/19/2011, 3:26 AM
Looks cool to me. Thou i miss the mustache too. It made him look more bad ass.

Tadanobu Asano is great actor. Everybody should watch Takashi Miike´s Ichi The Killer. Thats one great movie!:)

loganoneil@ agree
MovieTheaterLad - 2/19/2011, 4:11 AM
I hate the fact that they picked Idris Elba as Heindall, onlybecause he would've been such a perfect War Machine. He's a very talented actor, and I feel that making him a background character is a waste of his talent.
jazzman - 2/19/2011, 4:42 AM
@ELgUaSoN

ok my bad LOL

well we should be happy its not FOX Studio aint doing this movie LOL
r1g0r - 2/19/2011, 7:51 AM
i'm NOT picking up the whole "why are a black guy and an asian playing the aesir" topic. that line of inquiry hinges upon a point that needs prior establishment.

besides in the movie, at WHAT point were the asgardians determined to NOT be gods?

i read marvel for decades, and the ENTIRE time they were gods. dieties, not extra-dimensionals being mistaken by some drunk vikings as gods. actual, card-carrying, members of the union with all dues paid, GODS.

that entire idea was occasionally treated as kind of humorous, but was NEVER proven otherwise.

so can somebody show me when they dropped that whole concept and turned into "extra-dimensional beings"?

because if they are the same "GODS" that are worshiped by the asatru, then they are all the divine image of the norse people.

caucasian

please, point out where i am wrong in the marvel universe. i would truly LOVE to learn of it, because i always thought the idea of bringing ACTUAL gods into a comic-book scenario was a bit ludicrous.
AskaniSon - 2/19/2011, 12:44 PM
@r1g0r

Marvel's Asgardian "gods" are just a race of "extra-dimensional" beings. And they have been for some time. So I can't say when it became so, but they haven't been actual gods in the Marvel Universe for a while.

CrossOver - 2/20/2011, 1:10 AM
I don't like it. Don't get me wrong, the costume is awesome. I just don't like how they have mix races playing as Norwegian gods. Thats vikings and whatnot, I wouldve liked it more if they stuck to the myths and culture.
jjmeylar - 2/20/2011, 7:17 AM
@intruder: EXACTLY! HE LOOKS FREAKIN MONGOLIAN! I'm kinda glad that they left out the mustache, actually.
