Chatting with the press promoting this week's Immortals release, actor Henry Cavill expectedly discussed his leading 'Superman' role in Warner Bros.' highly-anticipated Man Of Steel reboot. Weighing in on potential criticism, set photos, keeping things confidential, and the "stylized" experience working with director Zack Snyder, read what Cavill says.

The British actor revealed to L.A.'s Daily News that the best thing about the Man Of Steel production is donning the iconic costume. However, when the first photos hit the web, he prepared himself for potential "haters."

"I block it out," he said. "You have to. Especially when it comes to whatever people want to say, and everyone's entitled to express their opinions. But you never know where an opinion's coming from or why it's coming in such a way. Sometimes it can affect you, certainly, so you have to be capable of taking everything with a pinch of salt. The nice stuff is nice. But it's like training. When you're training really, really hard and you're trying to achieve a certain look for your body, you look in the mirror and you ignore the good stuff because that's taken care of. It's only the stuff which you haven't quite got yet which you're panicking about. The same goes for any kind of Internet response or public response to a performance or the way I'm coming across."

Sitting in a separate interview with Jam Showbiz, Henry Cavill was questioned about thoughts on how recent set photos reveal, or rather hint at, details about the movie.

"Only so much you can do. You try to keep things private...As much as it does stimulate debate about what the plot is, I think it should be kept secret so it's exciting and new for people. Not so that they think, 'Oh, I saw so-and-so scratching their nose.' It removes you from the experience potentially. I quite like keeping the cards close to my chest."

And lastly, in another interview, now with SFGate, Cavill vaguely compared & contrasted the visual experience working with Zack Snyder & Immortals director Tarsem Singh.

"While Zack is very stylized; Tarsem is very artistic. Not to say Zack isn't artistic ... OK, watching that HDTV," he says, motioning to a screen in the room, "which is a masterwork in itself and seeing that painting on the wall, which is a masterwork in itself - they are both beautiful, they both affect you, and they are so entirely different. Like Zack is the TV and Tarsem the painting."

Man Of Steel, under Zack Snyder's direction, stars Henry Cavill (Clark Kent), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Antje Traue (Faora), Julia Ormond (Lara Lor-Van), Russell Crowe (Jor-El), Harry Lennix (General Swanwick), with Christopher Meloni (Colonel Hardy) and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White). And while solid story details are currently being kept underwraps, the reboot releases on June 14, 2013!

i think this looks good at the moment,we need a decent superman movie.we haven't had anything decent superman related since superman 2,well apart from a couple of animated shows/movies.
PrinceVegeta - 11/6/2011, 6:20 PM
yeah.. as much of a fanboy as i am.. some just SUUUUCK
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 6:25 PM
you know, i think it was ncreb who said he needed something to get excited about TDKR, well, I need something to get excited for MoS...
One2ephu - 11/6/2011, 6:26 PM
Can't [frick]ing wait for this. The Superman movie we deserve.
BIGBMH - 11/6/2011, 6:28 PM
I'm sort of with you there, rbfn04. I just don't feel like this is going to be the Superman movie I want. I'm open to their creative decisions, and hope to be surprised and blown away, but I'm not really excited for it right now.
TinyBirdcage - 11/6/2011, 6:30 PM
This is going to be much better than the Avengers. The Avengers is just a commercial film to raise a couple of big bucks. UNLESS they have the Hulk be the Hulk, and not just save him for the end. Like they did with the teaser! I know they'll have him transform only [frick]in' less than two times.
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 6:31 PM
@BIGBMH man, I really wanna come here and say I was wrong and this movie is awesome. I just don't share @One2ephu's enthusiasm.

I feel it will deviate TOO much from the source. Try to be like Batman too much. And that suit... UGH! That ish is ugly
Supes17 - 11/6/2011, 6:33 PM
As history tells us, you can never satisfy the whiny fanboys
One2ephu - 11/6/2011, 6:37 PM
@rbfn04
We are promised lots of action, we know snyder can deliver. Snyder is a great director. The cast is amasing. Nolan is grandfathering. Whats not to be excited about beside the lack of promotional footage/pics/info. The best movies are often kept close to the chest until release. Look how much promo shit Green Lantern gave, and it was a failure. I got high hopes. Maybe I'm just being overly optimistic, who knows.
SimyJo - 11/6/2011, 6:44 PM
@rbfn04 - wrong, sorry @rbfn04

Nolan WAS grandfathering, but he left a while ago to concentrate 100% on TDKR.
I just hope we are spared the worst excesses of Snyder slo-mo despite Nolan's departure.
mrHJK - 11/6/2011, 6:56 PM
I think I'm more excited for this movie than any other CBM right now (also most nervous about it)
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 6:58 PM
@One2 i know there will be action. honestly I expect more from a Superman movie ;)
One2ephu - 11/6/2011, 7:04 PM
@rbfn
Ya man, no shortage of it. We already know that theres a fight between Jor-el and Zodd for [frick] sakes. Including all the Superman/Zodd fight scenes. We know Snyder excells at filming action sequences.

Better than all the other Superman movies. Where Supes only throws a handfull of punches in horribly dated choreographed fights and spends most the movie power-less.
CuteAsian - 11/6/2011, 7:05 PM
meh i'd rather they didn't change the suit, the new one's too alien-looking. Superman's suit should have a more humane touch about it, like the fact that it was made by his HUMAN mom.

On a totally unrelated note.... do check out my Spider-Man fanfic, The Human Spider Trilogy, for a mind-blowing new interpretation of the wall-crawler! Sorry for the shameless plugging :(
TinyBirdcage - 11/6/2011, 7:08 PM
Snyder WILL deliver. When it comes to using other's material he is one of the best. Maybe making up his own, kinda comes out just to be a 2 hour trailer film. And there's a lot of source material he has with the character Superman. So it will be the best. Remember when he directed Michael Jordan's Playground you guys, in the 90s. That VHS came out great.
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 7:10 PM
@One2 again, I want a good story with it. Close to the source material

@UserFlak that suit is poorly designed. Specially for Superman.

@TinyBirdCage yeah, the worst MJ video. Now, Jordan is killing the NBA...
BATMAN1X - 11/6/2011, 7:11 PM
These Fanboys are the ones that said Heath Ledger is Bad casting the joker and darknight will fail.. And look at the outcome..
TinyBirdcage - 11/6/2011, 7:14 PM
@UserFlak
Obviously this one isn't made by a human. I don't think were using source material from the 50s. It's going to need to look nothing like a suit with human touch.

On a totally unrelated note.... I like your choice for the shocker in the The Human Spider Trilogy.
BooYah - 11/6/2011, 7:14 PM
Looking forward to this movie more then any other movie in 2013.
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 7:18 PM
@TinyBirdCage didn't know Secret Origins was written in the 50s...
One2ephu - 11/6/2011, 7:18 PM
@rbfn
All in all. I'm down for a great movie. Even if the source material is not followed to the letter. That being said, so far they seem to be sticking by the mythos. All important characters present and well casted. I'm sure Jonathan Nolan has laid down a clever script. With Chris Nolans idea of how to re-introduce Superman. I think we are all in for a ride!
TinyBirdcage - 11/6/2011, 7:19 PM
@rbfn04
It was a joke. That was his first big job as a director, so cut him some slack. Jordan to the Max was obviously the best. And you gotta wait to see his suit on film! Don't be certain with paparazzi pics?(rhetorical)
TinyBirdcage - 11/6/2011, 7:22 PM
@rbfn04
I just like the era, because James Dean ruled it over Brando. It wasn't the 50s....30s is the decade.
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 7:22 PM
@One2 Nolan is doing TDKR ;)

@TunyBirdCage I know it was a joke dude. I honestly ruined my MJ's Playground tape by watching it thousands and thousands of time, had no idea Snyderdirected it.

Still, the shittiest one. Air Time was the best dude. Air Time is a classic.

Sorry man, but that suit is just poorly designed. Specially for Supes.
One2ephu - 11/6/2011, 7:26 PM
@rbfn
Yes indeed he is. He was in fact the one who came to wb with an idea to re-introduce Superman was he not. He was assisting at the beginning. Thats all I said. Didn't say he was directing or nothing. ;)
TinyBirdcage - 11/6/2011, 7:27 PM
@rbfn04
Yeah you're right about Airtime. The battle against the Knicks was great and abusive dude. I love seein' Jordan at the top of his game. Especially with Drex. Michael should've just played Superman. I still think Snyder's way of filming will improve the way this suit looks very much.
GUNSMITH - 11/6/2011, 7:29 PM
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 7:29 PM
@One2 from what I understood he was very hands off with the project. he participated in the beggining, than gave Snyder carte blanche... I could be wrong, of course
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 7:30 PM
@TinyBirdCage he could play Superman AND Bizarro, since he changed his attitude from "if you can't turn a profit, sell the team" to "players, bail us out", lol.

MJ was amazing tho. GOAT
TinyBirdcage - 11/6/2011, 7:30 PM
@GUNSMITH
I hate the way someone photo shopped that cape on him.
GUNSMITH - 11/6/2011, 7:45 PM
TO ME IT LOOKS SEAMLESS, THE DESIGN IS MORE OUTWORLDLY AND NOWADAYS IT SEEMS ADDING TEXTURE TO A PLAIN COSTUME MAKES IT IMPACT MORE VISUALLY, PLUS IT PICKS UP THE LIGHT AND SHADOW..SUPERMAN NEEDED A CHANGE FROM WHAT WE WERE USE TO, NOSTALGIC WASN'T WORKING.
GUNSMITH - 11/6/2011, 7:57 PM
WHAT CONCERNS ME IS THE NEW SCORE, THE SUPERMAN THEME SONG IS SO ICONIC..TO CHANGE IT IS TRICKY, IF IT DOESN'T SOUND THE SAME IN WAYS LIKE THE ORIGINAL PEOPLE WILL BE QUICK TO ATTACK
YearOne - 11/6/2011, 7:59 PM
I love it, haters are insane!
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 8:00 PM
yeah! how dare people not like what I like? buncha ahters *roll eyes*
JULEZ13 - 11/6/2011, 8:08 PM
It's hard not to like Henry Cavill. He always knows the right things to say!

It took me a while to accept the change in the costume design. But I'm sure that it will eventually get changed back to the original as it always does.

As for the new score, @GUNSMITH: it will have to be completely different. I love the classic score and all but it is dated and this is a reboot. Everything should be changed. BUT, the score has to be as epic as the last. There's no reason why it shouldn't be. In order to change something it would have to better its predecessor in order to justify that change. I want a new score, but I will be HIGHLY upset if it isn't as great as the John Williams theme.
Ranger14 - 11/6/2011, 8:09 PM
I still don't like the suit and I'm curious as to how the suit will manifest itself when he goes from Clark Kent to Superman. The fake definition built-in bugs me, but hopefully the post production will take care of it.
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 8:10 PM
@JULEZ get outta here with dated. That shit is classic. Agree, they HAVE to go with a different song. But the original SUperman theme is a classic. Never dated. that shit rocks!!!
TinyBirdcage - 11/6/2011, 8:10 PM
@GUNSMITH
ME TOO. I'M TERRIFIED. I DON'T LIKE TO THINK ABOUT IT. I JUST SAY TO MYSELF HANS ZIMMER WILL DO IT LAST MINUTE...WHEN I'M GETTING A LITTLE SCARED. I FEEL AS IF I WON'T RECOGNIZE THE FILM WITH OUT IT'S ORIGINAL SCORE, BUT NEW CAN BE COMFORTING. YOU DON'T WANT CHRISTOPHER REEVES SUPERMAN TO GET OLD AND WORN OUT(brian singer's master plan), SO CHANGE IS GOOD.
JULEZ13 - 11/6/2011, 8:22 PM
rbfn04: lol. It is a classic, that I can not doubt. But every time I hear it I think of the 70s and Star Wars. We need a new tune for this generation.
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 8:28 PM
Hey, now. We talked about hater and in come the biggest iconic Supes hater :P
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 8:37 PM
@MrEko hell yeah, dude. Man, I heard that theme in Returns and I had goosebumps all over...
UnscrupalousSmurf - 11/6/2011, 8:39 PM
You can't satisfy FANBOYS. They demand so much more than they deserve.
rbfn04 - 11/6/2011, 8:41 PM
@Superguy c'mon man, it's all love. Still, you DO hate the iconic Superman. You hate the way iconic SUpes behave, you hate the iconic suit...
FlashFacts - 11/6/2011, 8:43 PM
The John Williams theme is iconic. I hope they bring it back or at least use Rik Morgans cover of it. Look it up on YouTube.
JDUKE25 - 11/6/2011, 8:44 PM
Love the suit. I'm open for change. I don't want to see the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over. I wouldn't want to eat a cheeseburger for lunch and dinner every single meal of every single day. Can't wait to see a new take on Superman for the movies, amazing action sequences, new suit, hopefully a new score, and an awesome cast. Can't wait.
JDUKE25 - 11/6/2011, 8:48 PM
@Ranger14 dude the definition isn't fake. They've just amplified it up a little so it'll show up on film better.

Bam...definition in them awesome arms.
JDUKE25 - 11/6/2011, 8:58 PM
@TheGDS do u play on pc or ps3?
UnscrupalousSmurf - 11/6/2011, 10:05 PM
@MrEko...Agreed! As iconic and historical as Superman is, his appearance in the comic books just doesn't translate well to the screen. As much as I love his original look, It doesn't convey the fact that he is from an advanced civilization. It would make perfect sense that he wore traditional Kryptonian fasion. Even the Donner films never explained why Superman dresses in trunks and spandex when everyone on Krytpon wore reflective white jumpsuits. General Zod and his minions wore black but I always assumed they were military uniforms. Yeah the changes in the new movie is a welcomed one and long overdue.
BlackRobin98 - 11/6/2011, 10:22 PM
@the haters; Aww you guys here that? He compares you ignoramises to 'body fat' LOL by saying that hearing you guys run your mouth is like looking in the mirror and seeing the muscle he's got as oposed to what he still needs to work on LOL you guys deserve it too! most of you are just fat tub-a-lard wastes of proto plasm who never ammounted to anythign and are living in moms basement eating pizza rolls for breakfast! lol

@every one else. Ok lets face it! The costume DEF needed a lil update (more like a lotta update!) It had been enough time thats past. And not ONLY is the old 'movie costume' a lil too 'haunted by Christopher Reeves great legacy' but it also has been given a bad name by the abismal Superman Returns and was the garb of Super'Emo'man. so a change was nice. AND I LOVE it, love the fact that its goign hand in hand with the new DC 52 which to me was LONG over due - the books AND the (re)Boot! I mean come on! Generation X, Y & i(as in Steve Jobs products and "i"pod and "i"entertainment such as youtube, facebook, twitter; in other words "i" as in "i am the entertainment, everything is about the "i"ndivitual) but yeah we ALL had to suffer thru the underwear "tightie" reds(Supes)/&blues(Bats) briefs for all this time! I mean what was the golden and silver age THINKING. To my knowledge Marvel didn't have to suffer thru all that! Why do they always get the coolest stuff tho we have the better characters! ok indulge me for a moment (those who follow me) they have the coolest costumes (look @ Iron Man, War Machine, Cyclops & MOST of the X men, definately Gambit they have the coolest groups Avengers > all versions; INCLUDING Dark Avengers, X men, Generation X ect - will cut short for the sake of length which some of you covet so much with your A.D.D a$ses lol) and lastly the coolest villains; Magneto, Venom, Apocalyps, Onslaught, Jack O lantern ect) and as of late they have the coolest movies too (all tho Capt wasn't that great, I think Thor was better but BOTH of'em beat the crap outta Green Lantern, I know we can all agree with that much!) Time for DC to come back with a vengence b4 Marvel 'avenges' back in 2012
Ranger14 - 11/6/2011, 10:27 PM
Obviously, some of you don't have a clue what a "hater" is. Just because someone isn't happy with how the suit looks or how someone might have been cast doesn't make them a "hater".

JDuke@ That is what I mean by being fake. The definition is definitely amplified in the suit design. Sure Cavill got pretty defined, but not to the extent that shows in the suit. The abdominal muscles in the photo on the above right of the article clearly look like folds in the material and not actual muscle definition.
