Jamie Foxx Shares How He Surprised Daughter With THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Casting

Given that his daughter is a huge Spidey fan, Django Unchained actor Jamie Foxx found a special way to break the news to her that he'll be going up against the webhead in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel

Amid early negotiations to play Maxwell "Max" Dillon AKA Electro, actor Jamie Foxx shared how he couldn't wait to break the news to his 4-year-old daughter, who happens to be a Webhead fanatic. And now that the Academy Award-winning actor has officially joined The Amazing Spider-Man sequel, Foxx explained to Access Hollywood at the Django Unchained premiere:

”[She] dressed as Spider-Man for Halloween and had a Spider-Man jumper. Yesterday, I took her to the set, she didn’t know [that I had been cast], and she says, ‘What is this?’ I said, ‘Daddy’s going to be in ‘Spiderman.’’ She asked me, ‘Is Spider-Man going to beat you up?’ and I said, ‘I don’t know. She says, ‘Good,.’ [The role] is an amazing ride. So, it’s humbling and just a lot of fun.”

The next installment of The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Dane DeHaan, Jamie Foxx and Shailene Woodley. The screenplay is by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt. The film will be directed by Marc Webb and produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. The untitled new film in the Spider-Man saga is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014. Production will begin in early 2013 in New York.

the same goes for miles morales i do not read those comic i like bendis' work but i cant see how anyone can read that after loeb shit and came on the ultimate universe at the same time

marvel is guilty for equating blacks to hispanics to gays ala astonishing x-men 51 basically all minorites are "special" and it is an accomplishment for them just to be acknowledged i hate pandering

Man I just really hope it works out. At the end of TASM I thought they had set up a foundation for a good series of movies......then they pick Electro? And they cast Jamie [frick]ing Foxx?

I don't know man, I don't know. I was pretty pissed about Hardy as Bane and I guess he did ok at that. It's just a matter of letting go of what you think that character should be and allowing them to be something different. In Bane's case it was getting comfortable with a giant south american with muscle-enhancing fluid to become a short brit with a biomechanoid gorilla mouth and a demented Dr. Suess accent. It kinda works.

You guys are hilarious you complain and say that you won't support Jamie Foxx but I bet you all will go and pay tickets to go see that movie. There are countless other celebrities that have did things worse thats in comic book movies but you still support them. Calm the hell down and I wil see you at the theater

You know what... he's a great actor... but I just don't see him in the role. I can't imagine him as the psycho crazy Electro but hopefully he proves me wrong.

@nevermender - collateral, Ali, Ray, Django unchained, the soloist, and jarhead are a few.

that being said, I dont think this is a debate about whether Jamie is a good actor, he can be, but its whether electro is a good character, and a good fit for his specific style of acting. hopefully he doesn't let his daughter down.

He is a good actor. He was in Collateral (2004) and Ray (2004). He won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Ray Charles.

I think that he would make a fine Electro.

glasspleiades: yeah, it's silly to doom a movie sight unseen. It's funny, because a few movies you named aren't very good, but I don't doubt his abilities as an actor. I want to know there's a good script and a good director!

Let's just hope it's a good film. I don't imagine there was a lot of jumping for joy over Alfred Molina either.

To be honest Sony wouldn't sign on a really big star like Jamie foxx to play electro unless they are going to do something with him, I think they'll change him up a bit like they did with doc ock in spider-man 2.

I'm sure that Foxx will do fine with the role.
I just don't take him seriously as an actor. I don't care how many awards he wins for churched up versions of his In Living Color roles.

When I see him portrait Ray Charles it just seems like a joke to me.
It's really no different than my inability to take Jim Carrey seriously.

I hope this version of Electro doesn't at all resemble Raimi's Sandman; AKA "I'm a criminal, but I'm still a good guy just doing all these bad things (including killing Peter's Uncle) because my daughter is sick."

Let's just be honest, some people are going to b*tch or sh*t talk this movie no matter what they do. Criticize whatever actor is chosen and sh*t on their achievements just so they can convince themselves this movie will fail.
Why the hell are people so bitter towards a MOVIE.
It's a f**king MOVIE. Why do you want a movie to fail so badly?
People are going to put months of their lives into this, lots of sweat and heart, and some of you just want to condemn it all because of some shallow/pathetic grudge?

Why does it matter if Electro is black or white?
I find it funny that some people constantly bring that point up, while also saying Electro isn't all that important. If he is sort of insignificant and not very well known, then why does it matter if he's black? Spider-Man has only fought white guys in all of his movies, and he doesn't have very many black villians. It's something different, you know, what people say they want? Something different.

Jamie Foxx is a great actor I really don't care that he is a black man playing a white character. Weird, but I will wait and see. Besides what will make or break this will be the writing and the director.

@kevberg Okay you say you are not racists right? Who are the black male actors you do like ? Because all I see here on CBM are the ones that you hate. Which makes people a bit suspicious.... And if you say Bill Cosby or Eddie Murphy. Stop yourself they don't count...lol.

i wouldnt even mind if superman or batman were played by a great black actor... I hope that superman in the future gets play by a black actor since he is an alien, so he can be any color not just white. and still live in a farm with a whte family.

To all the people claiming that this is pandering and callously insulting Foxx: You claim it's the character (just write a good story), not the color of his skin, but that's the exact thing you're complaining about. Foxx is an Acadamy Award winner, and because he's playing a part normally played by a white guy, you suddenly don't recognize his acting ability. There's a word for that and I'll let you figure it out.

Now, I'm not dense. I understand that people associate a character to a certain look. I get that, but this slavish dedication to a character's skin color solely for the sake of skin color is ridiculous. I could see if Electro was culturally white. I mean, if Fox plays Electro like 2Pac's Juice character, then we have a problem. But if he plays him without the stereotypical black male personality, what's the problem? Do you think Electro is going to be walking around in baggy clothes and calling people the "n" word? "Yo, #$itch, I'm Electro, so give me all your money or I'll shock you to death. Word to God." lol.

Someone brought up Foxx's comedy act and how it was racist and included child rape or whatever. I can't speak to that, because I don't know what you're talking about, nor am I concerned about it, because comedy gets a wide girth. I've heard all variety of comedians say extremely risque things. That's what they do. Now, if you're saying Foxx behaves like this outside of the comedy arena, then you have something, but that's not what you're saying, is it?

What exactly is it about Electro that another actor with a different skin tone can't portray other than he has a different skin tone, anyway? Can a guy who looks like Powder play Electro or is that skin tone too white for you? How about if Peter Parker had tanned skin (I didn't say black); is that a problem? I suggest you re-evaluate your arguments and take a look at it from the outside of your emotional baggage.

Oh you fools I don't like Foxx due his remarks about hoping Miley Cyrus was violently raped, I won't see this movie as a result of Foxx I don't support films with stars that say and do that.
