Max Hernandez Teases Plot “Twists And Turns” In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Teasing a “much bigger” role in the sequel and more, Maximiliano Hernandez has acknowledged that he’ll further establish his role as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Sitwell in Captain America: The Winter Soldier!

After acknowledging Comic Book Movie’s coverage of today’s confirmation that he’ll reprise his role from Thor and The Avengers as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Jasper Sitwell in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, actor Maximiliano Hernandez took to Twitter to reveal: “So, it’s a much bigger role in a much darker Captain America story. Lots of twists and turns. And lots secrets about the Marvel Cinematic Universe revealed! I can’t say much more or the Marvel cops will revoke my S.H.I.E.L.D. clearance! Trust me you will all freak out in the theatre when all is revealed!”

In “The Winter Soldier” comic book story arc, Jasper Sitwell “works with Nick Fury in regards to the underground activities of Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier. During one of the Winter Soldier’s mission, a brainwashed Black Widow was brought into custody at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters; she injured Nick Fury and killed Sitwell before escaping.” However, Hernandez says to expect “new twists” rather than those in Ed Brubaker’s arc.

In light of the Marvel sequel’s subtitle, Jasper Sitwell’s inclusion and expanded role isn’t too surprising given that bigger roles have been granted also for Marvel’s The Avengers’ S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and the espionage organization as a whole; as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) continues his affiliation with them and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. Anyhow, Hernandez also joins Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo & Emily VanCamp. Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits April 4, 2014.

Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off. From a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In addition to “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel on May 1, 2015; & “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's the one I'm looking forward to most, and this just made it even more anticipated

I wish people would stop throwing around the words "Dark or gritty" in movies...it is getting so cliche. People act like that is the one element that will make a movie good, which is not true. A good story, writing and the right actors....That's what does it.

Whether it's dark or not is irrelevant. All the sequels to the Crow, The Ghost Rider Films and several bad remakes of classic horror movies can be called "Dark" but are they great films...no.
ThePowerCosmic - 3/21/2013, 8:34 PM
I'm all about this quote though:

"And lots secrets about the Marvel Cinematic Universe revealed!"

Maybe like What the heck happened to Red Skull? Can't wait for this!

MarkOfTheDemon - 3/21/2013, 8:37 PM
Much Darker? Ha the irony the hypocrisy its paramount :)
KaneRomita - 3/21/2013, 8:43 PM
The big secret that I want revealed is how did Cap survive in the ice.? Maybe that will be addressed..

Actually I thought maybe in Avengers 3 we find out Kang had something to do with it. For some reason Cap is a key figure in the timeline (which he is) so Kang does a fast-forward on Cap when he freezes over it wasn't 70 years but more like a few minutes..

I dunno.. Otherwise they're just saying 'the super-soldier serum kept him alive', which is nuts.

But it'll probably end up being SHIELD that has something to do with it..

??
KaneRomita - 3/21/2013, 8:44 PM
I mean, they have to explain how Bucky survived all these years... (to the audience).
KaneRomita - 3/21/2013, 8:46 PM
Because seriously, how could they have not found the Skull's plane for 70 years.? (because it was blinked out of time.?)
sinsear912 - 3/21/2013, 9:06 PM
This movie is gonna suck monkey ballls
StrangerX - 3/21/2013, 9:07 PM
Yes a better design for Cap plz. That was the biggest dissapointment in the Avengers
ComixBookGuy - 3/21/2013, 9:26 PM
Cap 2 villains: Winter Soldier, Crossbones, and Baron Zemo.

Allies: The Falcon, Black Widow, and Shield.
Ocelot - 3/21/2013, 9:40 PM
just cant take captain america seriously with the way he's been presented in the mcu, just cant. Thought the first avenger was the weakest movie in phase 1, I'm hoping that this will be a lot better, still not sold on the movie
peppy - 3/21/2013, 9:46 PM
Out of all the CBMs coming out THIS is my most anticipated . Can't wait to see cap kick some ass.
TheBlackNerd - 3/21/2013, 10:04 PM
I'm betting that "Black Widow" will be revealed as a traitor to Sheild and she's secretly working alongside Zemo/Hydra.

...but again that's my guess! :)
mgeoff88 - 3/21/2013, 10:27 PM
Wow... I'm really excited for CA:TWS!!!

@TheBlackWolverine I hope not! I don't want Black Widow ending up being a double agent.

I don't want her to be killed off or something! That would suck!
NoJobBOB - 3/21/2013, 11:38 PM
Awesome. Im ready for this movie to get underway!
avenger1 - 3/22/2013, 12:25 AM
black widow is always switching sides, gettin brainwashed and shit in comics,.i'd like to see it translated theatrically.
NovaCorpsFan - 3/22/2013, 3:09 AM
I reckon Winter Soldier's identity will shock the GA so don't spoil it for nobody.
RamonSuarez - 3/22/2013, 3:39 AM
I like that the MCU seems to be taking a way darker turn.
Orphix - 3/22/2013, 4:29 AM
If you think of the phase two as the 'empire strikes back' of the trilogy then it will be the dark part. Part twos of any trilogy generally are.
ParisSun - 3/22/2013, 5:16 AM
Yes, the Empire Strikes Back can be considered the "darker" follow up to Star Wars. But they got it just right. The characters still stayed true to themselves and weren't lost in self doubt and pity. It was still a fun ride, even thought it dealt with darker subjects; Luke's father and Han's capture.

It just seems that many movies try to be edgy and dark by making the main character all depressed and manic. This just brings the whole movie down. I'm looking at you TDKR. I don't want to see emo Cap.
MisterNiceGuy - 3/22/2013, 6:56 AM
So where exactly are they with the production of this film? I haven't really been following this one close to the chest yet
Fogs - 3/22/2013, 7:40 AM
I guess they'll reveal more about Fury and SHIELD's origin.
TheAbomination - 3/22/2013, 8:00 AM
Awful lot of "dark" stuff going on. Phase 2 is definitely gonna be the "Empire Strikes Back" of this franchise.
DioFoRio - 3/22/2013, 10:57 AM
@markofthedemon...it's disney not paramount you moron....
DioFoRio - 3/22/2013, 10:57 AM
btw get a dictionary...lol
SageMode - 3/22/2013, 11:21 PM
I agree THEPOWERCOSMIC

I'd say the MCU is becoming less-light-hearted, more serious in tone.
optimusbibby - 3/29/2013, 3:44 AM
@DioFoRio I think he meant paramount in its definition, not the studio lol
optimusbibby - 3/29/2013, 3:45 AM
@SpidaTrav, what other examples?
