Michael Rooker Blown Away By Official Look At 'Yondu' In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Though he's seen himself in full makeup and costume by way of mirrors, dailies, and paparazzi photos, Guardians of the Galaxy actor Michael Rooker ensures that neither do Yondu justice. Check it out!

Participating in a podcast interview with Chimichanga Talk (transcribed by At Tha Movies), actor Michael Rooker talked about his career and his role as Yondu in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Though he didn't reveal much about the character (he admits he's perfected talking for hours without saying anything), the Walking Dead actor does gush about how amazed he was getting a look at Yondu with proper lighting, as opposed to mirrors, set dailies, and paparazzi set photos.

"My makeup and wardrobe took about six hours before getting camera ready and it’s a cool role and it’s going to be a lot of fun," Rooker started. "In the end, at the end, we did a huge photo session and I saw the end result in some of the lighting we we’re using and I was just blown away. I saw the photograph and it was really… I mean I had seen it in the mirror with really bad lights and I’ve seen myself on a video you know, little feedback and replays, but on the set. Now I finally see myself a photo of myself with a real camera, a real lens and real lighting and brother it was beautiful. The first time I saw what real people are going to see and it was stunning, stunning, it just I can’t describe it it just looked like real skin. It was so believable, it’s amazing, it amazed me and totally blew me away, stunning, beautiful and I couldn’t believe it. It made me think that I was working with real artists."

Michael Rooker went on to discuss the extensive makeup process, revealing there's six different levels of makeup. "It’s hand done every single time, so each and every time it’s a little bit different," he says. "So you become a part of the process and you need a keen eye for any kind of mistake or continuity. They are looking for the same and we’re all checking each other. It’s pretty amazing the way everyone worked together to get this done and there’s several, several layers I mean there’s more than just blue. There’s clear, golden and like silver and there’s blue and darker blue and lighter blue and it’s just amazing what they had done and what they do." Check out the full transcript At Tha Movies.

Well, it's safe to say our first official look at Guardians of the Galaxy is being conserved for next year, with the first visuals possibly debuting during Super Bowl XLVIII or perhaps closer to the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Anyhow, James Gunn is knee-deep in post-production, and he's still working with Bradley Cooper on Rocket Raccoon. The Hangover star revealed to The Daily Herald that he's in the middle of finding Rocket's body language and acting out his scenes in a bodysuit as motion-capture cameras record his performance. What do you think?

“Guardians of the Galaxy,” the next epic adventure from Marvel Studios, is directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, and the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Academy Award® winner Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Prime, with Vin Diesal as Groot and Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is scheduled for release August 1, 2014!

I want an official trailer now!!!!!! Give us a good look at these characters.
Dunejedi - 12/19/2013, 9:26 AM
@Campblood. Same here. On a positive note, Rooker appears to be whistling in that pic with his coat open. Flying metal arrows anyone?
McNyagano - 12/19/2013, 9:29 AM
Oh great another comedy from Marvel. I really wish Marvel could make a darker and realistic superhero, this comedy and humour stuff they're doing is nonsense.
kevberg - 12/19/2013, 9:32 AM
PLEASE......tell me he will have the red fin at least.
Nomadic1 - 12/19/2013, 9:33 AM

I LOVE the comedy and humor route. Eventually I hope they take a Nolan approach, but it's all good for right now.
thalidomide - 12/19/2013, 9:33 AM
Has anyone seen dio lately?
Nomadic1 - 12/19/2013, 9:34 AM
Gusto won Thunderdome!
Joementum - 12/19/2013, 9:35 AM
I need to see the giant red fin.

No sail = no sale.

cipher - 12/19/2013, 9:36 AM
Hahahahahahaha, the clones've been banished. I wonder what's gonna happen to mine.
kevberg - 12/19/2013, 9:36 AM
Im hoping that thing on his head is a CGI place marker for the Fin.

i know he had a mohawk for the filming, but i think he has a prothstetic on his head
over the mohawk .
JoeMomma29 - 12/19/2013, 9:37 AM
Thank god all the Gusto clones are being terminated. I wonder if Big G will reveal who has been making all of those.
TheMexicanSuperman - 12/19/2013, 9:42 AM
I can't wait for GOTG, but the only thing I don't like is that most of the aliens, from the ones we have seen, look like painted humans. I want to see some freaky looking aliens.
LoudLon - 12/19/2013, 9:44 AM
I'm just glad Rooker's finally landed himself a role in what is basically guaranteed to be a major blockbuster. Such a great actor, going back to his days in Sea of Love and of course Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. I dunno. It just makes me happy that he's going to be more well known now.
dougieisrollingthejays - 12/19/2013, 9:45 AM
I enjoyed the gusto war
Melkaticox - 12/19/2013, 9:47 AM
It doesn't need the silly red fin, shut up

(Although it would add some color to his appearance...)

@McNyagano Marvel takes the realistic route, DC takes the "oh my gurl the world is a piece of shit everything's gray" route. Why you be hating.
JoeMomma29 - 12/19/2013, 9:49 AM
Gusto you are looking forward to Antman?
cipher - 12/19/2013, 9:53 AM
My sense of humour's my armour.
SuperCat - 12/19/2013, 9:55 AM
McNyagano - 12/19/2013, 9:57 AM
@Melkaticox

I was being sacarstic. That comment was to show what kind of mentality goes on around here.
SuperCat - 12/19/2013, 9:57 AM
LMAO!!!! @ Gusto

I just bust out laughing in the newsroom!
lordhaterig88 - 12/19/2013, 9:57 AM
Should of switched rooker for Ronan and lee pace as yondu
DrunkenNukem - 12/19/2013, 9:59 AM
Guardians and Insterstellar are the 2 only movies i will watch in cinema...and maybe cap. 2 ..still not decided
dougieisrollingthejays - 12/19/2013, 10:00 AM
I like it gusto
sexfoodcomics - 12/19/2013, 10:02 AM
I guess he dies in the movie. He is wearing star lords over coat in that picture.
actionmoviefanatix - 12/19/2013, 10:08 AM
I personally like that all of the Marvel movies have some light hearted elements and that each one feels different.

Dark and Gritty all the time gets old quick.
dougieisrollingthejays - 12/19/2013, 10:10 AM
Rooker would have made a good Ronan, Pace not a good yondu
Rokyn - 12/19/2013, 10:10 AM
He looks good. I have never read a GotG comic in my life but hopefully the movie gives me a good introduction and hopefully I can care for the characters. Chris Pratt though is a #winning move.
NitPicker - 12/19/2013, 10:11 AM
Well, clones do have shorter life spans, but I feel like @GayGusto and @PinkGusto should have been around for at least another 200 years.
shangho - 12/19/2013, 10:12 AM
Ive been continuely impressed by the cast of this flick.Fingers crossed that its a GREAT "Space" movie, especially since GL was being lauded as a Star Wars type movie (and though i liked aspects of it,Tomar Re and Sinestro especially)it DEF was not
shangho - 12/19/2013, 10:14 AM
But i truly think GOTG is going to deliver in many ways!
