Captain America: Will it be awesome, or will it disappoint?

Captain America: Will it be awesome, or will it disappoint? Captain America: Will it be awesome, or will it disappoint?

I just don't know. I am super (censored) excited to see this movie. But...a thought has been growing in mind that it might suck...

Editorial Opinion

Filed Under: Captain America

I'll admit it-when I saw the first picture for the Captain America movie, I instantly thought it would be trash. I didn't have too much faith riding on Chris Evans as the First Avenger and I hated the idea of Joe Johnston directing on it. But that was because I didn't know too much on the movie.

When the super bowl ad came on, I still wasn't moved. I stood by my opinion and thought it would suck. But then, the new trailers and TV spots emerged along with the numerous set photos and movie stills, my views and opinions changed drastically into the opposite direction. The more I read up on Cap, the more I thought, 'These walls have never been so white'

What makes me think this movie will be awesome:

Chris Evans has proven to me through the trailers that he is indeed a super hero, and one fit to lead the Avengers. The action does look promising, but what really draws me in, I mean REALLY is Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull. Yes, Hugo is a trumendous actor. With his great performance in The Matrix and LOTR trilogies, I have no doubt that he will be the highlight of the film.

What makes me think it will suck:

A thought has been growing in my mind over the past several weeks telling me that this movie will be a disappointment in the way Phantom Menace disappointed its fans. I for one loved Phantom (only for Darth Maul)and in some cases for me, that might be a good sign for this movie. I'm still not sold on Joe Johnston. He's not the best director in the business, and I'm still angry at the guy for having to destroy JP3.

Yes it looks like an amazing movie, but we've only seen the trailers. Come on people, lets not push for it to be the best CBM of all time so early. I mean seriously...people thought Phantom was gonna win awards by the sights of the trailers, TV spots and movie stills. Revenge of the Fallen looked jizztastic through its trailers and such, and that turned out to be a huge disappointment. Indiana Jones 4 (Even though i really enjoyed it) Disappointed its fans after a barrage of excellent trailers.

So see? Studios in Hollywood these days can paint an exciting rough draft through advertising, but whether the final piece can really cash in is where it counts.

Truthfully, I think it will be a good movie. It's my third most anticipated movie of the summer. But that thought will continue to grow in my mind. Whether or not that idea grows to the point where it makes me truly think this movie will suck, I'll still go to it. It might be Batman Begins fun where you get thrilling action, awesome characters and a strong plot. Or it could be like Transformers-mindless action flick, yet still a good popcorn movie. Whose to say?

I'm 80% loving on this movie, and I fear that will drop to 60% a week before the movie comes out pending on whether this Idea that has been planted in my subconscious grows.

But hey, that's my opinion.

I wouldn't be concerned at all about Captain America being great. Aside from maybe Peggy Carter, it looks from the trailers like the entire movie focuses on Steve Rogers. I was initially disappointed that Namor and Jim Hammond were left out, but after seeing the way that Joe Johnston and Marvel have presented Cap and given him a huge human presence people can relate to, I am even more excited than I was at this point last year.

It will probably do better than Thor in the US and UK, but I am not sure about other overseas numbers because I haven't seen the movie to know how much of a focus the US patriotism is.

I also own 400-500 issues of Captain America comics so I am not so sure how objective I can be.

Along the way, I've been worried it won't do so well because of stylistic choices, casting and director but the newest trailer plus the one I saw in cinema last week get my hopes up a lot!
It mightn't make as much money as the other Avengers have but I think it'll be a good film.

This one looks the most action-packed. Much moreso than Thor or GL.

It looks like action from start to finish which is refreshing for an origin film. Plus i will say...this film has THE HOTTEST love-interest I've ever seen- Hayley Atwell is freaken beautiful.

@LP4

Definitely,

Hayley Atwell is absolutely breathtaking as Peggy Carter, good thing Emily Blunt turned down the role.

@SKOne- Tell me about it! Hayley looks angelic and her voice is soooo feminine and soft to the ears compared to so many other gals in Hollywood. She is feminine yet tough at the same time which I like!

Hayley will knock it out of the park!

She doesn't even need to try, she has this very natural and delicate beauty.

haha. gotta agree with Xenix. the only real reason you gave for thinking it won't be good is based on the advertising. but you even said the advertising makes it look good.

i can understand the Joe Johnston thing, but in all fairness, after JP2, they should have never made a JP3.

i think its gonna surprise alot of people,at first i had my doubts about the movie.

i thought thor & green lantern were going to be the cbm's of the year,but i was wrong about the green lantern.

we haven't seen the amount of footage we've seen for the likes of thor,x-men first class & green lantern.

which is a good thing,if you ask me.

@Xenix and @CorndogBurglar i agree with both of you. People request good second trailer but are still not pleased or convinced. What they fail to realize is no matter how good or bad the movie will be their just not satisfied with the lead cast or head director of the film, which will constantly develop doubt in thier mind. I for one will settle with this trailer. Yes, no more trailers that will actually show the C.A movie from start to finish because at that point whats the point in seeing it. Now from what i see it has a lot of action but do i need to see more action or more acting to convince me to go pay a fee to see if its blockbuster worthy?...lol.....thats way to much emphasis......just enjoy the movie it will ll be good & enjoy Captain America.

@skone

Emily Blunt would have done it if they cast her now husband John Krasinski as Cap (Thank God, Zeus, Odin, whatever God or Comic God that never happened).

Besides she will never do a CBM, remember she turned down Iron Man 2 to do Gullivers Travels (fail)

Hayley will get lots of offers after this movie is out, you can count on it.

I smell reboot for Captain America soon if the movie bombs, which I know that it will, it has heavy competition with Transformers, Harry Potter, no way that Captain America will be #1 at the box office, and it will be just like Green Lantern a huge letdown

@ LP4: Totally agree, its time to bring the action into the CBM. Less talkey more punchey.

@claybo4131: Jim from The Office as Captain America? Ha ha, that would have been something. His British counterpart is playing a hobbit, what does that tell you? lol

The trailers and picture always gave off this...

Indy 4 & Iron Man vibe...

Which I like, I thought both were epic.

It'll be nice to see Captain America, the one we've all been waiting to see...

For the first time on the silver screen, {3-D actually looks promising on this flick}...

But I admit, before the Super Bowl TV Spot, I was worried if Joe Johnson could pull this off.

@spiderfan35 Believe it or not, as far fetched as it sounds, he was seriously considered and even auditioned for the part. I know no one sees the embodiment of America in Jim from The Office, but he almost was Captain America. If he was, even the Nazi's and HYDRA would laugh at us, cause I could not see that guy leading The Howling Commandos in battle nor be the field general for The Avengers at all.

Black Widow here has a photoshop photo of him as Cap with that poster up above. Instead of AVENGE it says THIS AINT NO OFFICE

If this movie disappoints, I will laugh my ass off towards the Marvel die hard Fanboys that gave DC fans shit for GL.

No movie is perfect, friends.

@Justsomeawesomekid

And if CA fails, than that means First Class is the perfect CBM movie of the summer; its one thing to see a CBM done right fail, but a CBM movie done wrong succeed seems pretty [frick]ed up.

But again, it is all about people's personal taste; that is the reason why alot of people don't like Green Lantern (and doucebag critics who rather go for CBM that hardly resembles the comics itself).
