I'll admit it-when I saw the first picture for the Captain America movie, I instantly thought it would be trash. I didn't have too much faith riding on Chris Evans as the First Avenger and I hated the idea of Joe Johnston directing on it. But that was because I didn't know too much on the movie.
When the super bowl ad came on, I still wasn't moved. I stood by my opinion and thought it would suck. But then, the new trailers and TV spots emerged along with the numerous set photos and movie stills, my views and opinions changed drastically into the opposite direction. The more I read up on Cap, the more I thought, 'These walls have never been so white'
What makes me think this movie will be awesome:
Chris Evans has proven to me through the trailers that he is indeed a super hero, and one fit to lead the Avengers. The action does look promising, but what really draws me in, I mean REALLY is Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull. Yes, Hugo is a trumendous actor. With his great performance in The Matrix and LOTR trilogies, I have no doubt that he will be the highlight of the film.
What makes me think it will suck:
A thought has been growing in my mind over the past several weeks telling me that this movie will be a disappointment in the way Phantom Menace disappointed its fans. I for one loved Phantom (only for Darth Maul)and in some cases for me, that might be a good sign for this movie. I'm still not sold on Joe Johnston. He's not the best director in the business, and I'm still angry at the guy for having to destroy JP3.
Yes it looks like an amazing movie, but we've only seen the trailers. Come on people, lets not push for it to be the best CBM of all time so early. I mean seriously...people thought Phantom was gonna win awards by the sights of the trailers, TV spots and movie stills. Revenge of the Fallen looked jizztastic through its trailers and such, and that turned out to be a huge disappointment. Indiana Jones 4 (Even though i really enjoyed it) Disappointed its fans after a barrage of excellent trailers.
So see? Studios in Hollywood these days can paint an exciting rough draft through advertising, but whether the final piece can really cash in is where it counts.
Truthfully, I think it will be a good movie. It's my third most anticipated movie of the summer. But that thought will continue to grow in my mind. Whether or not that idea grows to the point where it makes me truly think this movie will suck, I'll still go to it. It might be Batman Begins fun where you get thrilling action, awesome characters and a strong plot. Or it could be like Transformers-mindless action flick, yet still a good popcorn movie. Whose to say?
I'm 80% loving on this movie, and I fear that will drop to 60% a week before the movie comes out pending on whether this Idea that has been planted in my subconscious grows.
But hey, that's my opinion.
