Trilogies-Will Nolan's Batman carry the magic? Trilogies-Will Nolan's Batman carry the magic?

It Began, then it went into Knight, then it Rises again...

It began with Star Wars back in 1977.

Lucas gave us the start of an unforgettable Trilogy. Dazzling audiences with amazing visuals, memorable characters that would stick to them after they left the theater and an ending that closed very well. Now I know in one of my previous articles said Return of the Jedi was #5 on my most disappointing list, but after giving it some thought, the ewoks may have been greatly unneeded, but they weren't too disappointing to land it at that # 5 spot. After watching it recently I concluded: Return of the Jedi overall wasn't up to par to its predecessors but it still was a great ending nonetheless. It wrapped many story lines up, left a few open for sequels in the future (if there is any), and left fans loving Lucas...until 1999. Star Wars redefined the word 'Science Fiction'

After Star Wars departed, some thought they would never again see a great trilogy like it again. But a year after Return of the Jedi, Temple of Doom hit theaters. In my opinion, I thought it was a spectacular movie, and it carried on the Indiana Jones Trilogy, one that redefined the word, 'Adventure'. Harrison Ford played an iconic role that Tom Selleck passed up. (Thank god) With excellent direction by the legendary Steven Spielberg, Indiana Jones dazzled audiences the way Star Wars did, a refreshing break at the movies. With a great ending with The Last Crusade (My personal favorite), Indiana Jones was just as Iconic as Star Wars, but not near as popular.

Over the next twelve years we as the audience became witness to several trilogies that failed to reach the heights of Indy and Star Wars. Trilogies like Back to the Future, Die Hard Jurassic Park (it had the worst closing on this list), and even The Next Generation of Star Trek. But in late 2001, we got one that dared to rival Indy and Star Wars.

Lord of the Rings once again brought a dazzling masterpiece to the audience with three well crafted and honorable movies that received a ton of Oscar Nominations and awards. With this, Peter Jackson entered the realm of best directors in history with his 3 stunning movies Fellowship, Towers, and King. We as the audience will forever love this trilogy and we are currently anticipating the arrival of the much needed 'The Hobbit'. Lord of the Rings is as good-if not better-than Indy or Star wars. LOTR redefined the word 'Fantasy'

Then we the audience again saw a few more trilogies fail. The Matrix, X-men, Terminator, and Spider-man all could have been awesome trilogies but instead their third installments came to a shameful close. It was a shame to see that happen because the first two films for all of those trilogies were great and/or iconic in my opinion. Those trilogies redefined the word, 'disappointing'

But...The Bourne Trilogy ended in 2007 and once again brought back the magic to the screen. The best action trilogy to date, toppling over Die hard and Lethal Weapon (LW 4 isn't a movie. Its a TV movie) in money and in popularity. Delivering awe-inspiring visuals, suspenseful plots, and memorable performances, The Bourne Trilogy redefined the word, 'Thriller'. Matt Damon was perfect for this lead roll and Paul Greengrass gave us two awesome Bourne Movies that stuck to their source material like glue. Its a shame that Ludlum couldn't see them.

Now here we are...with a new trilogy coming to a close. Nolan's batman.
It Began, then it went into Knight, and now it Rises again. Batman Begins made us forget the Joel Schumacher failures and gave us what Batman should have been all of along. Haters can hate all they want, but it looks more apparent that his trilogy will be the best CBM trilogy to date.

Just yesterday, people the world over were gifted with the first teaser poster of the Dark Knight Rises.

Already sparking a gigantic buzz, the third and final installment to the Nolan Batman trilogy is sounding quite promising. Nolan knows how to make a movie. He's made several fantastic and memorable ones, Memento, The Prestige, Insomnia, Both Batman Movies, Inception. And he knows not to screw around. But the question at the end of the day come for this:

will Nolan's Batman carry the magic that Star Wars, Indy, LOTR, and Bourne gave us?

I think it will. It'll be iconic in a way that will be cherished for decades to come. But what do you think? What word will Batman redefine?

well that's it for me.

and as always...

It'll be a solid movie, but we'll look back on it and say it wasn't a great trilogy

they're good films, but no way are they great.

people have got to stop riding nolan's dick,it'll be all over after the dark knight rises.

Not really sure, the movies are good; but I am not sure if they will be any special like those movies. The Nolan Batman Trilogy is like Kevin Smith's New Jersey "Trilogy"; except it is an actual trilogy.

This is coming from a die hard Marvel fanboy, Nolan's Batman franchise is the best in it's genre! When you of Sci/Fi, Star Wars comes to mind, Action/Adventure; Indiana Jones, Fantasy; Lord of the Rings. People saying The Dark Knight is overrated, why? Because it's the most successsful? To be the ONLY award nominated and winning CBM? This WILL be the best CBM trilogy ever. Still more excited about Avengers :)

There's a reason why people are "riding Nolan's dick." He makes great movies, and the masses (critics and fanboys) agree.

LOTR is hands down the best trilogy so far, but TDKR could potentially top it with a good showing from it's third and final chapter.

how can anyone think this a great trilogy, its good but not great.

-nolan & his realism,he falls from an 80 storey building & lands on a roof of a car while holding onto another person without a single injury.......bullshit.

-bat shit,he spends time in a cave that has bat living in it.the fumes from the bat shit would kill him.

-bale & the throat cancer voice.

-how did the joker wire up all those explosives in the hospital that two face was staying in.

-worlds greatest detective that doesn't do any detective work.

-the scene with the public vs the arkham inmates onboard the ships, the inmates are nasty, vile, scumbag serial killering lowlife's in all of gotham but they don't want to kill anymore, not one of them was crazy enough to over power the guy with the remote & just blow all those people up.

star wars trilogy 4/5
lord of the rings trilogy 4/5
toy story trilogy 4/5
the godfather trilogy 4/5

the nolan batman trilogy 3/5

as far as the masses are concerned, depending on how well TDKR is received, it will more than likely go down as the best Batman series of all time. just look at how well the last one did. (i personally think it was slightly overrated, but it was still a great movie)

I have a feeling that this will be known as one of the best movie series of all time. even if i don't necessarily agree with it.

It's a great trilogy because it doesn't have the comicbook feel to it like spider or x men does. It's a new and darker twist to the CBM world. And the whole public vs. Inmates part may have been dragged on but it was used to create tension; more suspense for the audience. And when the one inmate tosses the denetonator out the window is extremely realistic. First off they're scumbags and parinoid so their whole though process is, 'shit, we're gonna die in like five seconds' so they're paralyzed with fear. But if that was a real life situation one would stand up risk getting shot in tossing the remote out because he feels that his time has come and the people on the other boat don't deserve to die. So by doing it, he would send a message to the other inmates saying, 'we're trash And scum lower than dirt, but let's not sink lower'

And there's 2 movies to godfather. The third is just a cheap Hallmark production

- Falling from an 80 story building with the help of half his glider holding Rachel was a lil unrealistic but its still a comicbook movie
-Batman has always stayed in a cave with live bats in it. whats ur point?
-The throat cancer voice. Bale was the first batman outside of TAS that changed his voice between Bats and Bruce. Its ment to instill fear.
-Joker has had henchmen working for him the entire movie and with them evacuating emergency rooms security would be light.
-He does enough detective work but this isnt Comic Bats. Its inconcievable for Bruce to aquire the amount of training he has in the books. He depends on Lucious and Gordon to handle the load. He does do some detective work (In begins, dressed as wayne spying on Arkham when Rachel and Crane was talking, as Bats going to Cranes apartment, in TDK, The ballistic bullet he put back together, finding the guards at the funeral, the interrogation scene)
-There were plenty of armed guards on the ship to dissuade inmates from making a move. But I agree at least one of them should have been crazy enough to get shot.
Honestly I still dont understand why you think these movie were average. 3/5 rating is an average rating when I really enjoyed watching these movie the 50 or so times I have. I think your just hating for no reason.

@ hush2010

nolan says about realism all the time, but his films feature an immortal, stupid building falls,a laughable cancer voice thats not very scary at all & finally bat shit fumes that bats leave behind in caves would kill batman.

also 3/5 isn't an average rating.

5 great
4 very good
3 good
2 average
1 poor

i said the film was good not great.

Compared to the rest of the CBMs around, its the MOST realistic out of the bunch.

Hey I know you lean towards Marvel a bit more, but at least you say positive things about this movie unlike a bunch of other Marvel fans.

It is the most realistice CBM, so I don't know why people say it isn't realistice. And there is no immortal, so...

People will look back and realize that they drank the Marvel "kool-aid". The has three Marvels (Thor, Captain America, Iron Man 2) Have lacked the greatness that the Batman movies have had. Mind me I am not a hardcore fanboy of either universe. But it's time to see that Nolan's movies will go down in history no matter what. Simply because the public loves the movies, and the public outnumbers tha fanboys. That's and aspect one must always look at. And by the way, Ra's is not benn confirmed as immortal, so don't say things that aren't true..."Take it with a grain of salt!"

If Bruce did all the Detective and police work, Gordon's character would be useless...all he would do is show up and arrest the criminals after Batman's pummeled them.

Bruce did detective work in TDK when he got fingerprints out of a shattered bullet and determined where the criminal was hiding.

It's too early to judge the entire trilogy because the third film HASN'T COME OUT YET!

And Nolan said that it was a hyper-reality, in other words, it would be a serious and more realistic setting, but they would push the envelope and break the rules once in a while. Hence the microwave emitter, fear gas, fall from the penthouse, bat-sonar, two-face surviving with the damage he got to his face..

If Nolan took his realistic thing to seriously, Batman would be a cop that attacks criminals in a ski mask during his free time

Iron Man 2 and Cap were lackluster films IMO compared to Iron Man and TIH.. They were "good but not great"

I am a fanboy for both Marvel and DC and have found great and terrible films on both sides. Neither company can say they have had 100% success with all of their films, i.e. marvel: x-men origins: Wolverine and DC: Green Lantern. As for an amazing trilogy, I am a huge Batman fan and thought Begins was a decent film, TDK was even better, and am hoping Nolan can succeed with Rises and not mess up like they did with Iron Man 2's whiplash
