I'll admit- I know very little of this super hero beside he's the fastest man alive, a few of his villains, and his name is Barry Allen and his love interest is Iris West. Yeah yeah make fun of me all you want for my lack of knowledge.

But i don't care. I WANT WARNER BROTHERS TO DO A FLASH MOVIE.

I want WB to do GL2 and The Flash around the same period in time, but I'll save GL2 for another article another day. Now, Since i know very little about The Flash's origins, I'll just move back from the storyline. But they can't make it too basic or generic if this movie is set to be made.

I really want the studio to grab an excellent writer, so Goyer would be awesome.

Now, the one director I've had my eyes on for this film would be Doug Liman. The director of The Bourne Identity

While not a top tier director or top notch figure in the industry, he has been known to work very well with the title cast-member. The First Bourne may have not been the best in the series, but it still is a fantastic movie. If Liman can work closely with Goyer on achieving a story line very close to the comics and a top notch screenplay, then the final product would be outstanding. Together they wouldn't have the story serve the special effects, but in fact the other way around. I wouldn't really prefer it to be Iron Man funny, Dark Knight dark, or Batman and Robin campy, but to be somewhat like Batman Begins; a more serious twist.

Many speculations and opinions on who would play Barry do go as far as saying Bradely Cooper. But in my opinion, I do not wish to see a comedic actor in the super hero role. (Reynolds is a comedic actor, but he did an amazing job as Hal Jordan so he doesn't count) a cooperation between Liman and Goyer would have to require a more serious actor. One young and that knows how to act, thats why I'd go with Garret Hedlund to play Barry.

To me, he's got the looks of a super hero, and while he may not be an actor that gets nominated every other year, he is very promising. In his role as Sam Flynn in Tron, he did a very good job despite the weak script. I am a firm believer that Garret would master his role as the fastest man alive.

I must admit, I had to give it some deep thought for the girl to play Iris since a lot of good ones have been taken. So I'd pick Bryce Dallas Howard. Shes a very good and not mention beautiful actress and this role would fit her just fine.

As far as the musical score is concerned, my top choice would be Michael Giacchino.

Now, I thought John Carter was a solid movie, one that grows on you the more you watch it, ya know? But the score is simply stunning. Its one of the best in the business. All thanks...to Michael Giacchino. Now this guy is one of the younger movie composers around and he already has a very impressive resume. Scores such as Star Trek, MI3 & MI4, Super 8, and Incredibles are the very notable ones. Heck, remember that old WW2 video game Medal of Honor Frontline? He did the music for that too. The guy knows how to add tension into even the simplest scene. His style of music is perfect for the flash: upbeat, swift, and stylistic. In my own humble opinion, he is the next John Williams. And I like to note that no other movie this year will have a better soundtrack than John Carter. I was really hoping for a sweeping epic score from the Avengers, but it just wasn't there. It was good yes, but Alan Silvestri has done better (ex.-Captain America: TFA) I've posted some of Giacchino's tracks for those who haven't heard the guy:

I think if you put that all together, you would have a good movie on your hands. The Flash is a super hero that wants his movie. I

There are many villains on The Flash's list. I really do not know which one to pick really. So I need some input.

I like your option with Hendlund, now that I think about it, besides mirror master(because of JL Doom) I don't know any Flash villain, who would you use?
Duskbyday - 5/17/2012, 12:14 PM
Flash needs a film so bad, one of my fav superheroes. I'd say either Cold or Mirror Master, bit too early to use Zoom I think. Love Giacchino's work, good choice!

Honestly i would rather see a Wally West Flash but,the New 52 made that impossible.

@SuperBat77: Not actually a bad idea. Or make it look like in the Incredible Hulk movie opening sequence. I also would like it if it would have the right amount of humor like in the first Iron Man movie.

The Flash is a great comicbook superhero (I loved the tv series) but I think there are many obstacles to making a successful big budget movie.

1: The origin, lightning and lab chemicals, is very outdated and somewhat silly.

2: Costume may be too bright and cheesy for the modern audience.

3: He doesn't have a 'thing' built into his mythos. For example Batman has childhood trauma leads to lifelong obsession, CAPTAIN AMERICA has determination and strength of character leads to overcoming all obstacles and becoming a hero who embodies the ideals of a nation then later the man out of time concept, SPIDERMAN has nerd becomes hero and makes a tragic error that haunts him for the rest of his life. The Flash has none of that; he's just guy gets superpowers and now fights crime.

4: Rogue's gallery is IMO abysmally cheesy for a big budget movie.

Flash has a "thing", he's sort of an easy going everyman, a down to earth hero, Barry is the guy you're most likely to bump into in the DCU. And he was a cop, why wouldn't he fight crime with his powers? Recent stories show that the reason he went into forensics is to prove that his father did not murder his mother.

The Flash suit, the red and gold, the logo, is one of the greatest costumes of all time.

FLASH FTW
Coldblood6 - 5/18/2012, 11:17 AM
No offence but that's not much of a 'thing'. We recently saw what happens when you don't have much of a thing in the GL movie; they tried to shoehorn in some stuff about being able to overcome great fear rather than being fearless. It failed completely both as a relatable concept to the audience and in execution. I suspect the Flash has a similar fate.

WRT the costume it is one of the greatest. I love it. But the modern GA is still iffy about those things.

i love the flash, but i understand that in a big budget film, his costume will look a bit cheesy.

aaron diaz at dresdencodak did a reboot of the justice league inspired by the new52. i loved everything he did with the exception of the steam punk cyborg.

his flash costume update was pretty cool.

Okay well how about I write The Flash movie then? And Green Lantern was SHIT, SHIT, SHIT. The first draft online was SO much better than what went in the film, I can't believe how much they [frick]ed it up.

And it wasn't Reynolds' doing, it was the damn director and the script they [frick]ed up, and the horrible, HORRIBLE cgi.
Netman0007 - 5/18/2012, 4:32 PM
The Green Lantern film was poorly made, dude. Has nothing to do with having much of a "thing" or not.
Netman0007 - 5/18/2012, 4:32 PM
It's not the character, it's the film.
BattlinMurdock - 5/19/2012, 7:59 AM
Isn't Flash's thing that his mother was killed and his father was wrongly imprisoned?

I know that's the line for the Johns' reboot.
Shadow11 - 5/19/2012, 1:56 PM
Ryan Gosling if anything would be my pick for Barry Allen/The Flash and he would make such a great Flash but Hedlund would be my pick for who I would want as Daredevil/Matt Murdock for Marvel Comics, but for DC Comics for Flash it has to be Gosling

And as his love interest Iris, I would also go with Bryce Dallas Howard

But for the Flash they need to make a good trilogy out of it but as well they need good CGI effects for it as well as a good writing team and a good director because we don't want this being like The Green Lantern all over again

For Flash they need to make it an origin story of how he first got his powers in the first place and actually have him try to control his powers but at the same time have him fight crime in his town before you bring in the main villain who will then be used for the rest of the movie, for the first movie the villain needs to be Captain Cold and then you can use The Flash as a launching pad towards building up towards The Justice League movie

And then a post-credits scene you can have Flash encounter like Bruce Wayne/Batman to set up towards Batman's reboot or have him encounter Hal Jordan/Green Lantern to set up towards a Green Lantern reboot

If they decide to go ahead with a movie francis manapul and Brian Buccellato should definitely be a part of it in some capacity...they've done a great job so far.

nice job and i am absolutely agree with you. i hope warner find quickly a director for flash!! we need to have and see the story of BARRY in 2014 at theater!! (i want GL 2 too in same time or after). and in 2017, they MUST do Justice League movie!!
ACMilan - 5/22/2012, 10:18 PM
The Flash is one of my favorite characters and probably the only other character where you need to go dark to get a lot of fans into the audience. If you go dark and have him be in modern forensics, perhaps even Dexter dark, you're then able to give him a vengeance "thing." Seeing the world turning to crap, people getting away with murder, a world of decay, and you get yourself a genuine hero.

Casting here is pretty important as there needs to be an actor who can play a gamut of emotions. I loved the early rumors of Ryan Gosling starring and reuniting with Nicolas Refn; the two of them make cinema magic together.
