EDITORIAL: Theory on Agents of SHIELD's "Centipede"
Don't hit me, but I can tell nobody is going to react positively to this. However it is just a theory and isn't likely to happen as much as the next theory. Hit the jump to hear my thoughts on the "Centipede" from Agents of SHIELD...
So, you've probably read the teaser and though, "What could possibly be so bad about the centipede?" Well I'll be sure to answer that question for you guys within the coming minutes. For now, let's just analyse what the centipede actually is.
Contained within the centipede are a mash up of all the things in the MCU that have granted someone superpowers. Gamma radiation, the military-developed super soldier serum and extremis. It is being used by some organisation, most likely AIM or HYDRA, to create super beings that can rival the Avengers. Of course, that is merely an assumption at this early stage, but yet it is a highly probable event.
Onto the actual theory. * THIS IS WHERE YOU START HATING ME *
As we are all well aware, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will feature in the sequel to Marvel's the Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron. Of course how their origin story will be handled is a mystery to us. They cannot be mutants, so what other way is there for them to gain their powers?
Joss Whedon has openly stated in numerous interviews that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will not make life any easier for the Avengers at the start of Age of Ultron. So, there is a very real possibility that the pair are a product of a very specialised version of the centipede technology which grants the wearer much more specific capabilities, i.e. super speed and reality alteratiom/magic. This technology may have been developed either by AIM or HYDRA and perhaps we will see some evidence of this in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Furthering that point, perhaps the rise of this technology is what prompts the creation of Ultron as a defence system, should the Avengers become obsolete or outmatched by hordes of superpowered, nameless characters.
I'm not a fan of this theory, but when something wanders into my head, I tend to write it down. I know for a fact the vast majority of you will hate on this theory no matter how substantial any evidence may be but like I said, I'm not too keen on the idea but it just makes more sense than leaving Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver shrouded completely in mystery.
Anyways, I hate to show you guys this, but it's open to debate. Do you agree with any of the points I raised here? Do you think I need to curl up in a corner for a week and wait 'til the heat's off? Leave your thoughts in the usual place and I'll see you guys next time.
