dellamorte1872 - 9/23/2009, 8:05 AM
WOW!

That is a must buy! Great find LEEE!!!!
Imran - 9/23/2009, 8:12 AM
Della @ Lol!

Imran @ No worries man! Ive been waiting for this baby too, didn't buy the recent editions coz i knew this was coming, can give my downloaded directors cut away now heh heh. ; )
LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 8:23 AM
i didnt really like the black freighter cartoon, the comic was way better in that sense too
dellamorte1872 - 9/23/2009, 8:42 AM
I didn't purchase the recent release Blu-ray for this very reason so on November 3rd...this Blu-ray will be mine. I had to wait as everyone else bought the current edition but my wait is well worth it.

I also didn't like how the Black Freighter turned out but they did remove a lot from the graphic novel
Whispers68 - 9/23/2009, 8:53 AM
butler's voice is cool though other than that more "old achool animation" woulda been cool, and the story goes on...rather than being cut off..AND THAT I DIDNT LIKE EITHER I LIKE HOW ITS OPEN-ENDED. THAT WOULD BE MY MAJOR GRIPE...I DONT NEED SOME KINDA ENDING
dellamorte1872 - 9/23/2009, 8:57 AM
i waited for this because i want a multi-disc thing like BLADE RUNNER, i want one copy of WATCHMEN DIRECTORS CUT THEN ONE WITH THE DIRECTORS CUT BUT THE BLACK FREIGHTER WOVEN IN
dellamorte1872 - 9/23/2009, 9:01 AM
No thanks! I already spent £30 buying an import copy of the directors cut that wasnt released in the UK and seeing as the motion comic is shit and Tales of the Black Frieghter is a 20min cartoon I can watch on YouTube or buy on DVD for £3, ill save my money!!!

I mean, apart from the cartoon being added into the movie (something i would find a distraction as i did in the book) and maybe one or two new special feature what is the point of buying this if you already have the directors cut!?!
joshw24 - 9/23/2009, 9:09 AM
YAS!!! Haven't seen watchmen out of the theater purely as I was waiting on this!! Bring it on!
TheAnswer - 9/23/2009, 9:10 AM
JOSH @ The point is you should've waited! ; D

An The Motion comic is not SH!T @ JOSH lol, man you only watched WATCHMEN coz JDM from SUPER-CRAP-TURAL was in it lol.

A TRUE collector will want this baby! ; )

Me too @ ANSWER!!!
LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 9:13 AM
This is the one I have been waiting for. lol I wonder how much it will be
DarthMulder - 9/23/2009, 9:16 AM
Cool, I did wait but the problem is, this will only be out in Ireland next year or something.
Rorschach01 - 9/23/2009, 9:16 AM
TheAnswer, I am right there with you, bro! Gonna impress upon the girlfriend the need for a Watchmen Ultimate Cut dvd in ym collection for christmas!
ManhuntersBastardChild - 9/23/2009, 9:18 AM
Dark Knight was the comic book movie of the decade. WATCHMEN was disappointing at best. plus why would someone need two copies of the same film? I understand that one is the "theatrical" version, but if you had the directors cut why the hell would you want the theatrical one?
RemiMartini - 9/23/2009, 9:19 AM
this package looks Fing sweet. I don't know If i'd get it though considering I own the director's cut and the black frieghtor/under the hood dvds already.

Positives to buying this new thing when I have the above:

- Cool package - very cool package
- Couple new documentaries that were previously only on the blu ray which I don't have
- Cartoon added to the movie making it the definitive edition

Negatives:

- 2 discs devoted to the motion comic which I don't give a sh!t about
- 1 disc devoted to a digital copy which I already have
- many copied over features from the director's cut
- under the hood copied over as well
- the price

- Seems to me the negatives might outweigh the positives here when I already own the Director's Cut and Black freightor dvd.

Don't think I'm game on this. Which is a shame since it looks so d@Mn cool.....Time will tell.

Fcuk it - I'll probably ask for it for Christmas.....Yeah - fcuk it - I'll end up getting it anyways........I'm a mark for this kind of sh!t.
Keven - 9/23/2009, 9:23 AM
The DVD is set to go on sale for $43.87 and the Blu-ray for $59.99

The sad thing is, there will only be (supposedly) 70K copies created
Whispers68 - 9/23/2009, 9:23 AM
ROR @ It'll be on AMAZON etc online!

An ive been told Blu-ray is region free, if you want the dvd though, you'd hav'ta have a multi region player which you prob have got no doubt.

REMI @ [frick] off, you don't know what your talking about lol! : D

KEV @ ; )
LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 9:24 AM
also - check this - it looks like the motion comic will actually just be the motion comic dvd inserted into the slipcase - check this out - shows the insides of the package -

http://www.watchmencomicmovie.com/092309-watchmen-ultimate-cut-dvd-blu-ray.php
Keven - 9/23/2009, 9:28 AM
Cool!
LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 9:29 AM
LEE: No you're right - my favourite part of the motion comics is when the male narrator starts talking in a womanly voice! Pure quality that was! And JDM was one of the reasons i decided to see it - the graphic novel didnt impress me all that much so i needed to find some reason, lol!

ROR: I managed to find the Directors Cut on ebay for something like £28. Blu-rays are region free so you shouldnt have a problem finding this on the net within a few days of it coming out in the US!

RemiMartini: I actually think you have a point! Having spent extra for the directors cut,why would i ever want to view the shorter, 'inferior' version!? And you actually have a good point when it comes to TDK as well...having re-watched both that and Watchemen recently i would say that The Dark Knight is probably a fair bit better than Watchmen!
joshw24 - 9/23/2009, 9:41 AM
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAWESOME!!!! I've been waiting for this. I put off buying the DVD 'cause I'd read that this five disk-er was coming out.
gibbyblaylock - 9/23/2009, 9:43 AM
Well i won the Black Freighter DVD and loved the hell out of it!!! But i'm with Josh, it would throw me way off to have it interwoven like it did when i read the book. To me, i didn't feel it necessary to read the tale at the same time. I could understand it much more in itself as a whole story from beggining to end. And i don't own the graphic novel but i did very much enjoy watching the first motion comic chapter. I wouldn't mind getting that separately actually. But since i want the director's cut to not have the tail interwoven, i might just buy the D.C. alone as well as the motion comic if it comes down in price. The rest that is offered in the package is irrelevant to me. I always say i want special editions but i never sit down and watch documentaries.

Oh and IRONMAN was the comic book movie of the decade!!!
Shaman - 9/23/2009, 9:44 AM
JOSH @ Lol! : D

SHAMAN @ Get out IRON MAN is nowhere near WATCHMEN lol!

Awesome film but no WATCHMEN dude!
LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 9:53 AM
Me want :)
teabag - 9/23/2009, 10:13 AM
Another [frick]in special edition of a movie already released ! [frick] them !
Bandit24 - 9/23/2009, 10:14 AM
The movie sucked. Why would anyone want the Ultimate suck edition?
Mjolnir - 9/23/2009, 10:20 AM
i already have the directors cut, black freighter and motion comic. so i will pass on this one. but if i did not this would be cool to have.
grif - 9/23/2009, 10:20 AM
Any update on a UK release date?
JaySchluffy - 9/23/2009, 10:20 AM
FX wise, Ironman had much more to offer and as much as Watchmen's storyline was brilliant for the 90ies, i feel Ironman's story in his film was even better and more entertaining. Aside from a naked sex scene with Malin Akerman, Watchmen had nothing that Ironman didn't.

Watchmen was a great adaptation but IMO, Ironman was simply better!
Shaman - 9/23/2009, 10:22 AM
GUYS @ Its not like WB didn't tell everyone this was coming out!!

Most that wanted it, waited for it!!!

JAY @ Soz no info on a europe release, maybe its the same time?

SHAMAN @ Lol!

MJOLNIR @ Clearly you have no taste lol! : D
LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 10:33 AM
Apparently it won't be released in the Uk but you can always order the Blu-ray copy on Amazon/online
Whispers68 - 9/23/2009, 10:34 AM
pass
Number21 - 9/23/2009, 10:35 AM
Sorry Shaman, but Watchmen had infinity more than Iron Man did! I loved Iron Man as much as anyone but you could write the story on the back of a beer mat. It was pure entertainment and a bit of bang and smash. Nothing wrong with that of course, especially when its done with as much style as Iron man was. But Watchmen is deep stuff man. Its thought provoking, intelligent and layered. The deepest Iron Man goes is showing Stark having a touch of the guilties about being a prick. Again, if you found it to be more entertaining thats one thing but as far as actual content and artistic vision goes, its like comparing Independence Day to District 9
Rorschach01 - 9/23/2009, 10:41 AM
as great as this news is, and as much as i want the dvd, i still find absolutely no reason why ";)" or "lol" warrant their own comment. post something intelligent and worthwhile or don't post at all.

incidentally, iron man was far superior to dark knight in every way, namely acting and writing. and watchmen was damned good, but the story didn't hold together as well on screen as iron man's did, which is an unfortunately inevitable result of doing such a loyal adaptation of the book.
thwip - 9/23/2009, 11:02 AM
Awesome I havent bought or seen the movie yet so I can wait until November 3.
ironknight27 - 9/23/2009, 11:31 AM
wow - Thwip - suck a d!ck. Are you new here? Nobody makes fun of Leee - he doesn't talk sh!t about anybody - and seriously? A Bob Dillon avatar? I hope somebody shoves his poetry books down your throat until you gag like you've never gagged before.

And saying Iron Man's acting and writing was superior to Dark Knight is the most Marvel nuthugging I've ever seen on this site. Get stuffed you tard.

I've been nice for a long time - but suck it you Marvel nuthugging sack. Iron Man, Dark Knight and Watchmen are all fantastic movies. You godd@mn hippy.
Keven - 9/23/2009, 11:43 AM
I don't know Ror, I think the movie versions of Iron Man and the Watchmen were on the same level. The Watchmen movie just wasn't long enough to convey the thriller aspect of the GN, there wasn't enough time to see Night owl and Ror piece together ozy's scheme... they just sort of have a tada! moment in the movie where as in the GN it's a slower process that creeps up on them. Also, because there was so much story to convey the character development, which was essential to the plot(never mind just being plain beautiful), was absent in the movie. All that was really carried over fully from the GN was the pure spectacle of it, it had lots of cool explosions and cool gory effects, but the emotional impact was missing, there was no shock when you found ozy was behind it all, you didn't really understand why the comedian was important. It was just really disjointed, and unless you were familiar with the story already you were lost.
So in that respect ironman was a little better, because while it was mostly about the exploisons and the cool armor, you atleast understood what was going on even if you had never seen or heard of ironman in your entire life.
thwhtGuardian - 9/23/2009, 11:43 AM
See now, i wanted to go all deep into details as to why Ironman was a better film but you guys stole the show. I will have to pretty much say the same as thwhtknight that Ironman had way more character development. But that was also Downey's fault, he just did a performance too brilliant for other films of the genre to compare. Yes, he was that damn good. Even if there was more "thaught" put into Watchmen's story, the only thaught it provoked in me was that it was all forced. It didn't feel natural. Roughly translated it felt fake while Ironman was taking life right in front of me. Even though Ironman's story was no pulizer, it rang much more true to me than Watchmen's. And like i said, i felt that Watchmen's story was actually brilliant for the 90ies, but not so much in our day and age. I even came to that conclusion in my review of the GN, before the movie even came out.

As for TDK, Ledger, Freeman, Oldman and Caine acted brilliantly. The only reason that i feel it pales next to Ironman is that TDK's leading role got overshadowed by many supporting performances while Ironman's leading role outshined every performance in TDK IMO. I enjoyed Downey even more than Ledger. Yes, i said it. He was that damn good.

Oh and Ror, i never saw District9 but Independence day had brilliant character development! And that is rare when you concider how many important parts were played in it's story. They established a breath taking amount of realistic human development with a concept as simple as an alien invasion. Something where "Signs & War of the Worlds" weren't as successful IMO.
Shaman - 9/23/2009, 12:10 PM
But the thing is guys, Im not just talking about the basic plots here. Even at that i still think Watchmen is far superior but Im talking about the intricate details. The depth, how it makes you ponder the nature of existence, the reason for being good in an evil world, what it really means to be a "Hero", a "villain".

Just me? haha. Anyway, i got all of those things from the movie. From Iron man i got..."Well, that was shit cool..now, where will we eat"

Comes down to what you want in a movie and personal preference of course. I thought Independence Day was cheesy, derivative bollocks with Baysplosions. Really didn't see any characters to develop, just one dimensional pilot/president/scientist/looney archetypes.
Rorschach01 - 9/23/2009, 12:19 PM
What ROR said! ; )
LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 12:25 PM
This is the inside stuff i found!!

LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 12:32 PM
Thwip @ Mizzed that, kiss it lol! ; D

KEV @ HI 5 bro!!!
LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 12:45 PM
Merry Christmas to me! I can't wait to get this. It's the only reason why i didn't buy the director's cut.Watchmen was awesome. Thanks for the heads up LEE
supermarioworldE - 9/23/2009, 12:45 PM
I think the GN does a good job of making you ponder those thoughts, and because we've read it we focus on that when we watch the movie. However, for those who never read the book, they were to busy trying to make sense of the plot to think of the moral complications. During both the times that I went to see the Watchmen I heard a flurry of whispered queries as who that person was, and why that happened. But during Ironman it was relatively quiet and everyone was fully engaged in the movie.
It's not to say that ironman was a better movie or it was better made, it's just that its plot was easier to translate to the screen. I think as fans of the comic we enjoyed watchmen because we knew who the characters were and what the story was going into it so we could enjoy the nuances better, and also our minds could smooth out the rough patches because of our prior knowledge, were as the ordinary movie going public does not have that ability so they became lost.
thwhtGuardian - 9/23/2009, 12:48 PM
No no, you do have a good point Ror. But it's not that i want more bang and less thaught for my buck, it's that i want to relate to the film. That is what i find even more brilliant than a thaught provoking concept. A philosophy in itself is thaught provoking but if there is even the slightest flaw in it's logic, if i don't really feel that it aplies to me then i feel it looses it's sparkle. I've explained the flaws that i found in Moore's GN in my review. But i could still appreciate it since for the 90ies, it was quite "avant gardiste". However, we are no longer in the 90ies and the evolution of human thaught has surpassed it's "avant gardisme" as it was destined to. If i had felt that Moore's story was perfect and that i could relate to it in any way and that the thaught it provoked in me was the truth and not a basis for debate, then it would have been better than Ironman. I like to feel satisfied when walking out of the theater as if i just had an orgasm and didn't need anything else. And i don't want to be blasphemous in any way but i just recently saw a film that drastically surpasses Ironman, TDK and Watchmen all together in philosophy and character development. Promise not to laugh???

Kung Fu Panda... That's right, you read it correctly! Now you can chose to concider Kung Fu Panda as a comedic animated feature for kids or you can watch it to behold it's brilliant philosophy that was not only thaught provoking but rang true as well. It even had more character development in it's pinky than Watchmen's graphic novel. I had a veritable braingasm from that movie even in our day and age. To me, that's saying something!
Shaman - 9/23/2009, 12:50 PM
Yeah I'm getting this. I waited also for this dvd. Now comes the hard part.....Finding a good day to watch a 3 and a half hour movie........Damn you school and work!!

You've been UNMASKED!
Unmasked - 9/23/2009, 12:55 PM
Leee - you didn't find that 'inside info' - I did - you just used your magic powers to paste it into this forum instead of splooging a link like I did.

Where's my credit - I just scared off that guy who wanted to r@pe you. Give me credit you goofy bastard.

@ Shaman - your defending of Iron Man also sounds like Marvel nuthugging. You're cool enough and one of the OG's on here, but I don't agree. Downey was great don't get me wrong - but take him out of the movie and see what happens. Now.....Let's take out say - Jackie Earl Haley in Watchmen - now tell me which movie still reigns supreme?

Watchmen has such a better cast - way more interesting characters that are all developed. Even Malin Ackerman as annoying as she is - is still more developed and more interesting than Pepper Potts asking SHIELD agents what their gadget will do to the door...
Keven - 9/23/2009, 1:06 PM
dear keven,

i've visited this site at least once a day for two years now. i just keep my mouth shut unless something especially intrigues me or pisses me off.

there's no argument that marvel has better storylines than dc. they've had to kill off their two biggest characters in order to keep readers interested. the best thing that dc has is alan moore, who is so ashamed of the whole franchise that he doesn't want his name anywhere near any of the adaptations. he hates that he's forced to write for a huge corporation like dc in order to have his works seen.

i don't claim to be the quintessential authority on comic book movies...i love spider-man 3, watchmen, x-men 3, and superman returns, and dislike hulk, the dark knight, and daredevil. my tastes make a lot of people angry, but they're my tastes. that's all. plus, speed racer is one of my favorite movies.

last but not least, it's spelled dylan. he's only the most important artist of the twentieth century. check yourself.
thwip - 9/23/2009, 1:31 PM
@thwip: dylan is ONE of the most important artist of the twentieth century, sorry but i feel lennon and morrison edge him out dude. i'd even say elvis before dylan lol but meh, opinons vary hence CBM posts!

as for this set, yeah i'll get it, liked the movie, waited for this set and i am itching to see it again.

for the record watchmen edges out ironman BECAUSE of RDJ being the only reason it was so good. watchmen's cast worked so well i was stunned, even akerman who was the weakest still beat the crap outta paltrow's "performance". i mean the chick dragged her feet through the whole movie. on one but robert gave any noteworthy performance, where as watchmen, as flawed as it may have seemed at times had a cast that felt like every actor was loving thier roles and it showed...
Boogie138 - 9/23/2009, 2:00 PM
@ Thwip - LOL.

Cause I know you love that so much.

You just proved everything I figured about you correct. Which by the way is hilarious. And DC is not inferior in any way. I grew up reading Marvel and thought DC sucked for years. Most of DC's past is laughable - I'll admit - but DC's Vertigo imprint hauls anything in the comic world when it comes to adult books. And Moore hasn't been involved in anything DC related since the fcuking 80's. Moore hates DC. What's your point?

Bob DYLAN - there ya go, my bad -

Has the all time worst voice in the history of music and the only reason why people go crazy for this sh!tbag is because he wrote like 5 epic songs in the 60's.

Hendrix is more important and relevant in his contributions to music than Dylan - and he choked to de@th on his rock puke. Dylan is one of the most overrated musicians of all time.

He's good - I'll give you that - but bl0wing him so hard is hilarious.

Marvel nuthugging = priceless.

Grow up and read a Vertigo book.

Keven - 9/23/2009, 2:11 PM

LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 2:14 PM
Actually my argument was that Ironman's story outshined Watchmen's. I know that the "actors" in Watchmen were collectively better than Ironman's supporting cast. And quite frankly i'd be insulted if they weren't since in watchmen, they all had somewhat of a leading role. But I still feel that RDJ had a better performance than even Hayley. And taking out RDJ of Ironman to compare both films isn't a good argument. RDJ is part of the film and a big reason why i liked it so much. I connected to his performance much more than any other actor in those three films. And i don't concider "loving your role" an argument here since RDJ loved his role and it showed as much as Hugh loves being Wolverine. So they all win points for that, equally.

Kev- I still say that Geddy Lee has Dylan beat for the worst singing voice ever.
Shaman - 9/23/2009, 2:21 PM
my birthday is November 24th, if anyone would like to hook me up !
;-)
rawshark - 9/23/2009, 3:14 PM
I'll throw a copy your way @ RAW lol!
LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 3:43 PM
Geddy Lee's a monster. How dare you talk bad of his man god power voice!
Keven - 9/23/2009, 3:44 PM
Okay I am not going to get into a debate on which movie outshined the other movie. The only thing I will say is that anyone who watched TDK and IronMan got their money's worth. I have not seen Watchmen so I cant comment on that.
ironknight27 - 9/23/2009, 4:55 PM
Well, my birthday IS coming up....
bubastis237 - 9/23/2009, 5:50 PM
*sigh*...you win...your rudeness, vulgarity, and childishness has made me realize how wrong i am.

i'm going to go, leave this town, and reevaluate my tastes in music, interest in comic books, opinions of movies, and life in general.

"when i return, think better of me, father."
thwip - 9/23/2009, 6:30 PM
ironknight27- AMEN!!!

thwip- Feel free to re-evaluate your tastes in music but don't trade them for anything sang by Geddy Lee... he's a monster alright! Sounds like what would happen if someone stepped on Englebert Humperdinck's testicles while he sang!
Shaman - 9/23/2009, 6:46 PM
I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT

=P
Fartman - 9/23/2009, 8:07 PM
Geddy Lee would take Bob Dylan from behind and sing Tom Sawyer as he goes prison on that frail heroin looking ass.

your sarcasm in defeat just seems lazy thwip. But I am happy you didn't resort to r@ping my mother jokes like some others have.

a good day to you sir.
Keven - 9/23/2009, 10:38 PM
I ain't a monster an i ain't giddy, geddy lol!

Okay that was a so a sh!Te joke. : D
LEEE777 - 9/23/2009, 11:46 PM

Considering the rest of the CBM crap that is out there, I thought Watchmen was excellent. Didnt buy the movie cuz waiting on box set. excited!

I'm buying IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THis will RULEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
