Shanks Fitted For Hawkman Wings!

We all know the JSA episode in "Smallville" is going to be a two-parter, and it's highly anticipated by "Smallville" and comic fans with the news that comic book scribe Geoff Johns is involved with the introduction of team members Hawkman, Stargirl and Doctor Fate.

Michael Shanks (Smallville's Hawkman), who plays Daniel Jackson on the television series "Stargate SG-1", has hinted that the JSA could very well appear in more than just the two episodes we've heard about.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, he said:

“The way it's set up there is a strong possibility that there could be more. I don't know where they're going with their season arc, but they certainly set the table. They've left that possibility wide open.”

Shanks confirmed that he will be playing the Carter Hall version of Hawkman from the DC comic books. He's also revealed that he's already been fitted for his “ Hawkman wings” about 5 times.

The Shankster goes on to say, “This is what I've been doing the most of, is going for fittings and you know, talking to the producers about the character and discussing the elements of the voices. But mostly it's been focused on the costume and the logistics of the costume,” Shanks related. “Again, it's a necessary thing. I really appreciate the reverence that these guys have.”

“When you're a guest character, you're used to being one of those things that are being ignored,” Shanks continued. “But they've really given a lot of thought and reverence to my input, both artistically, talking to (producer) James Marshall about the character and where he wants to see this develop… They've given a lot of prep time to work out the bugs, because I believe for ‘Smallville’ and for myself as well, and a little bit for television, kind of breaking new ground with this character and with the logistics of it.”

He then explains how Hawkman will affect Clark Kent's evolution as being the superhero we all know and love.

“Hawkman being the alpha in the Justice Society, being someone who...has made some missteps along the way, can or could represent a type of mentor character to Clark in his leadership abilities with his burgeoning team members of the Justice League,” Shanks said. “He represents a character that has a lot of wisdom to pass down to this next generation, so there is a strong possibility that once the initial phase wears off that there will be a coming together of those two to paint a larger portrait of the future, of what Clark has available to him and what his options are.”

Excellent find LEE!!!

Im actually looking forward to this quite a bit now! Im suprised that Smallville is actually going to be brave enough to give Hawkman wings seeing as Clark still cant fly, lol!
joshw24 - 11/2/2009, 10:41 AM
Tea that would be horrible LOL
Stubbyswof - 11/2/2009, 10:42 AM

joshw24 - 11/2/2009, 10:42 AM
I'm actually going to watch this...probably...maybe...sort of...I'll catch it at some point...I'm sure I'll see it in commercials...a downloader...time consuming...too busy...a waste...nah...forget this...garbage...[frick]ing crap...Smallville sucks!
gtrman - 11/2/2009, 10:43 AM
Yeah, im very surprised to see HAWKMAN have wings too!! i thought they'd cop out like usual, im still not liking the idea of STARGIRL this soon but i cant wait either for this one and i bet if it does do the ratings like i think it will, there will be SMALLVILLE spin off talk, i sure of it!!

JOSH @ Cool, u updated lol, okay i'll pop over and hell yeah to a NEW WARRIORS!! ; )
LEEE777 - 11/2/2009, 10:47 AM
@gtrman-lol

I went off Smallville but I might watch this episode since I'ma big fan of the Hawkman character, I think they should keep him in the series for a while longer than Stargirl and Dr. Fate like play a Green Arrow type role or more of a Martian Manhunter one.
Ryden - 11/2/2009, 10:48 AM
P.S. I bet gtrman, will watch this one and enjoy it!! ; )

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! ; D

Dog@ yes im not the only one :D
teabag - 11/2/2009, 11:13 AM
Doctor Fate is a really great character, I wanted to really see him for a while in some kind of show. Hawkman is a great character, and I can't wait to see him spread his wings, hopefully he'll pound someone with his mace. Stargirl, okay choice, I like the character but not my choice to have in a smallville episode, but I still want to see her. I only wish they could have shown Mr. Terrific, he's my favorite JSA character. But still satisfaied with the producer's choice.
airbeyonder18 - 11/2/2009, 11:14 AM
They better have more than 1 episode with hawkman! btw @teabag@ i haven't seen any boobies from ya!
SHHH - 11/2/2009, 11:35 AM
Did he just drop a hint that we would see the Justice League again? Maybe with the JSA?
THEHAWK - 11/2/2009, 11:38 AM
Hey guys, I'm still learning the ropes with the whole editor shtick so if I change or add anything to your articles that you don't like, give me a heads up. I'd like to learn what each of you like/dislike in your articles. Thanks!

@LEEE: I love ya buddy, but you just HAVE to learn another adjective besides 'F*ck' LOL Proofreading your stuff is a full time job in itself
MultiPurposePoni - 11/2/2009, 11:56 AM
I might actually have to watch this train wreck of a show. I think that Shanks is a very under rated actor and can't wait to see his role.

Tim Sale Superman Pictures, Images and Photos

Superman saves train Pictures, Images and Photos
necrosage2005 - 11/2/2009, 11:59 AM
SHHH@ sorry bud how about a mix up....

:P
teabag - 11/2/2009, 12:05 PM
sounds good, I like how they are slowly getting into the comic book feel. I know they would need a bigger budget to get it on point but these last couple of episodes have been great. They almost can't deny a "Metropolis" show.
vonstallin - 11/2/2009, 12:06 PM
I'm very skeptical about this and with good reason. But I guess this is the closest we'll get to seeing Hawkman, Doctor Fate and Stargirl in live-action anytime soon.

Anyways, Michael Shanks is the type of guy to steal a show, his run in Burn Notice was great.
soforizo - 11/2/2009, 12:16 PM
@teabag@ u the man! u never disappoint btw any black women?
SHHH - 11/2/2009, 12:23 PM

TaffetaDarling - 11/2/2009, 1:09 PM
smallville an't dead yet
thedarkknight666 - 11/2/2009, 1:37 PM
Good. Although I wonder which Hawkman this is going to be? You don't suppose Johns will introduce him as being from Thanagar, do you? In a way, I'd kind of like to see the whole "Thanagar technology influenced Egyptian civilization" thing that they used in the animated series. I thought it was a nice way of including all the elements of HM's origin yet allowed for them to explore the possibilities of using the Thanagarian police and military in the series. Whatever they do, I bet it's whatever will lend itself best to a spin-off, which is fine by me.
Velox - 11/2/2009, 1:53 PM
I'm not a Hawkman fan. He's kinda ghey to me.
SirPrize - 11/2/2009, 1:55 PM
Hawkman gay!!!! never.........

ok maybe lol :P

SHHH@ happy to help :)
teabag - 11/2/2009, 2:05 PM
Please...the guys bad-ass. Weird costume, but somehow he makes it work, and you gotta respect a guy that carries a mace made out of Nth metal.

LOL @teabag (as usual)
Velox - 11/2/2009, 2:07 PM
@Soforizo@ darn right Shanks is a totally underrated
actor! He was awesome on Burn Notice, a very complex
heartbreaking character! But Burn Notice is way-beyond-
itself good! And with my man Bruce it can't be more
perfect!

I am so looking forward to these episodes of Smallville
with the JSA! Smallville just keeps getting better and
better! I don't know what they did during the summer
break but the producers have so greatly improved
Smallville that it's almost not the same show anymore!
DDD - 11/2/2009, 2:09 PM
GL has a nice ass. He must workout.
SirPrize - 11/2/2009, 2:11 PM

LEEE@ Hawman's looking at the Atom like Richard Gere looks at Gerbals lol :P

Superdog@ lol
teabag - 11/2/2009, 2:27 PM
@DDD---- I agree with you about Shanks in Burn Notice, he was very good, underated and overlooked. I also think Burn Notice is a kick ass show. When I first saw Shanks character on that show I thought and still do, that he is the man that should play Captain America.

Regardless,I'm sure he will be great as Hawkman.
Hawksblueyes - 11/2/2009, 2:39 PM
Like this TEA @ Lol!! ; D

LEEE777 - 11/2/2009, 2:40 PM
HAWKS @ Ive never heard of BURN NOTICE??? It any good then??!

LEEE777 - 11/2/2009, 2:42 PM

LEE: Its under "Scoops" for some reason (even though '24' has actually been a comic book in the past!) Its a teaser trailer for the new season starting next year - check it out!
joshw24 - 11/2/2009, 3:25 PM
JOSH @ Just been there man, love the trailer!! I need to check out that comic book series big time now lol, i had no idea!! Cheers!
LEEE777 - 11/2/2009, 3:36 PM
24 is my favorite show on t.v. I'll have to check out your article Josh
superdog - 11/2/2009, 3:43 PM
LEE: Yeah, that comic book is pretty awesome - its set before the first season and shows what happenned during Operation Nighfall!

superdog: Its one of my favourites as well! Its a pity the article didnt make the main page as you guys would've probably missed it if it hadnt been mentioned here! :)
joshw24 - 11/2/2009, 3:51 PM
This season looks awesome being in new York. I'm actually gonna be in NYC the first week of December so I'm gonna keep an eye out for the production.
superdog - 11/2/2009, 4:34 PM
24 is definately one of telavisions highlights.
Hawksblueyes - 11/2/2009, 4:36 PM
Your welcome Josh lol :P
teabag - 11/2/2009, 4:38 PM
teabag: Lol, thanks mate! :D
joshw24 - 11/2/2009, 4:55 PM
As much as I dislike Smallville, I have to check these eps out just to see Fate and Hawkman.

Good job, CW. . . you got me
MultiPurposePoni - 11/2/2009, 5:00 PM
@josh: Dude, why do you want all of your articles on the main page? That page is supposed to have a variety of different article types so people who don't visit the site often have an idea of what we're about.

You're making it sound like the other categories are for sh*t. They are for the purpose of organization. Go check out their definitions under the FAQ section and you'll understand.
MultiPurposePoni - 11/2/2009, 5:10 PM
which episode is this gonna be?
SHHH - 11/2/2009, 5:20 PM
I WANNA SEE THE DOC FATE HELMET, THATS SUCH AN ICONIC LOOKING HELMET
GUNSMITH - 11/2/2009, 5:33 PM
@GUN: Yep, the helmet makes or breaks the suit. If they mess that up there's no hope for the rest of the outfit
MultiPurposePoni - 11/2/2009, 5:35 PM
@DDD

Damn right! Bruce Campbell is the coolest, I get some good laughs out of Burn Notice; they've got good mix of action and comedy.

Yeah, Smallville seems quite different these days. So i'm looking forward to the JSA episodes.
soforizo - 11/2/2009, 6:17 PM
it's good to see an incarnation of Hawkman on tv, finally!

teabag @ i too saw the words "pint of larger".
theFACE - 11/3/2009, 4:43 AM
I have never seen this show or even seen it listed in the dtv guide. Is it on one of the premium channels?
Number21 - 11/3/2009, 11:11 AM
I'll definitely see these episodes.
bropous - 11/3/2009, 11:52 AM
MULTI Well, I guess that after I put the effort into making an article, its kind of nice seeing it making the main page! I've been part of CBM for about 10 months and news was never/very rarely put under 'Scoops' instead of the main page..! Anyway after spending all the time I have on CBM and after all the various articles I've submitted, I dont feel that i need to go and read the FAQ thanks bud! :)
