Andrew Garfield may turn in a more believable performance as Peter Parker than Tobey because of one crucial Factor which is...

I think that the reason Andrew Garfield will make a better Peter Parker is because like Mark Webb said "The defenition of a nerd has changed." A nerd used to be just anyone who works real hard, looks wierd, and doesnt have good people skills. Today a nerd is an "outsider" and an outsider could be anyone nowadays. Today most people are outsiders just because they are shy or because they are not skilled socializers. This transition in my opinion makes for a more believable and more importantly relatable Peter Parker today then the one in Sam Raimi's Spiderman.

Now I havent seen The Amazing Spiderman yet so my opinions are subject to change, but until then this is where I stand The Old vs. The New. Im not sure if this is still a big topic or not but I just thought that this needed to be given some actual thought.

Nope, I'm sorry I don't care how good he was in the Social network, I still think he won't do as good as Tobey. Tobey may not of told Witty when he fought, but other than that I think he did more than outstanding as Peter Parker. Garfield is an amazing( no pun intended) actor, but no matter how well ASM does, I don't think he'll surpass Tobey.

I was a nerd in school, great grades, was into skateboarding, had purple hair, and loved comics... dressed just like Andrew in this movie.. I graduated High School in 2001.. So nerdy kids have been more like Peter in this movie for a long time. I don't remember one kid in
school who wore dress clothes every day, had his hair gelled like the 50's.

People seem to bitch about the way peter parker dresses in the teaser and the photos, thinking he looks emo with the skinny pants and all that. I go to college and I've seen alot of non-emo kids wearing pants just like that so what the hell are they complaining about? even having a hood on your head isn't consider emo, gangster wannabes do that stuff too.

I think compering those two actors is unfair. Tobey have done what he received in script. The amazing spiderman is going to be really really different then Raimi's version in many ways. Acting style and tone of the movie is going to be totally different. This is unfair because it is like compering two different artstyle. Raimi have made stylized version and it was good, Webb is tring to establish a realistic version. In Raimi's movie, Tobey had to act more campy and simple as it have to be in that tone and because of the new style Andrew have to act more serious and realistic. Everything for entertainment, if it is entertaining for general then that's mean it is working. It doesn't matter which style if it's working for audience. It's just director's choice and Webb wants to be different that Raimi, he doesn't want to do same stuff. We can't compere acting because of style differences but we can compre two spiderman movies, it's working or not we'll see and we have a year for that.

Uuuuuuuummmmmm no. Just no. Tobey is great no one can beat him. Nobody at all.
SUPERBATSPIDERMAN - 8/3/2011, 7:40 PM
Tobey was awesome as Spider-Man I mean how can you get any nerdier than Tobey. This new movie makes him look like a moody, emo kid with super powers. I think the new suit is awful the original was spot on perfect.

I enjoyed the movies(mostly) for what they were but I never thought Tobey was a grounded nerd. He got the dorky thing down though. Plus Peter's intellect in the Raimi films was ALL hearsay and dialogue. When did he prove he could do anything but talk about it?

Time to see if this Peter will do any better at realizing who Peter really is and not just what people generally think of him as.

in the comics, Peter never seemed like a nerd to me. maybe the first handful of issues. but after he started growing into his powers and having his other life, he was more like a really intelligent kid in school who just didn't get along with other kids his age. he had way heavier stuff going on, the other kids at school were still just kids at school. i think Tobey McGuire was really great, and defined a certain kind of Peter Parker, but, to me, he played up the nerd thing a little too much. almost how Christopher Reeves was borderline masochistic about coming off weak and nerdish as Clark. but he totally nailed that take on the character and he's gonna own it forever.

not that i think Tobey McGuire was that iconic as Peter, but he did a great job. Andrew Garfield, i think will be more like what i see Peter as being in the comics. i haven't heard him talk in character yet, it'll be real interesting to see how he comes off.
fangz - 8/3/2011, 10:35 PM
@ScionStorm - exactly....dorky. haha. Peter may have been a bit of a nerd but i don't think he was ever dorky or particularly inept socially.
JackDexx - 8/3/2011, 11:46 PM
tobey didn't have it fair. Andrew is acting in his spider-man film. tobey never acted in the films. he just kinda blubbered every now and then... and danced. for some reason he danced.

If this doesn't say accomplished nerd I don't know what does:

I think we should remember what Stan Lee intended for the original Peter Parker, and see how our world evolving has had an impact upon comic book characters!

On a random question. Does anybody else think his hair looks better down in that picture than made up the way it usually is. lol Kinda want to sneak up behind Andrew and comb his hair out. Haha
