For once I agree with Joss; I actually feel that the television aspect ratio is best for most entertainment, save a few films that visually require a widescreen format

I hate cropping.

*See Funimation DBZ re-releases.

Did not know this was happening and to be honest I do not much care. Unless Buffy is having a new season or a new film is coming out, I do not care for any Buffy related news. I love the show, and wouldn't watch this remastered version, so I won't... simple as that. As long as I still have access to my original versions, I'm fine. With that being said I see why some people would he pissed, if they do not have such access.

The coloring and Brightness makes it easier on the eyes...unless it was filmed in such a way where it needed to be dark and dull. I havnt seen the show but I am assuming Joss knows what is best for his product.

Lol i guess this means that Whedon doesnt have the pull Nolan does when it comes to his stuff being played the right way

and once again the technicalities of trying to "improve"
ultimately destroy the artistic value and original intention in entertainment mediums.

This reminds me when the fanboys were in an uproar over DBZ's rereleases removing the dust and grain in the original film prints because according to them that was part of the artistic integrity of the show.

What's next? Remastered Simpsons episodes?

Doing this against the wishes of the show's creator is something we should all be upset about. If these liberties are being taken in the name of updating then what else might they do, and to which show or film next? It my not seem major, but it does open the door to other more drastic changes and to other shows that you might consider sacred.

@TheDufase19089
TV is a different animal. Plus, Whedon and FOX have never seen eye-to-eye about anything.

@JamesMan
Yeah, it's easy to laugh about something when you don't care about it.

The George Lucas Rule is in full effect.

If the fans can get access to the originals, then remasters don't hurt anybody.

I don't care about Dragon Ball? I've followed the show since the original 1999 run on Cartoon Network when I was like 4, I've bought every DVD since they released the Buu saga on those 3 episode single disks, I have every volume of the Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z manga, I drove 30 miles to catch the one showing of Battle of Gods at a theater, I've even bought the whole GT series even with how terrible it is due to my love of DB.

Now Buffy, I don't give a [frick] about but I found the similar complaints ridiculous.

They did this with The X Files starting with the season five DVD. I'm glad Joss is speaking up, it seems so unnecessary. Glad I got my Buffy DVDs before they mess with them.

they need to put buffy and angel on blu ray if they do then

Those DBZ re-releases are terrible. Cropping, voice changes, cutting out 'filler' and making the blood grey doesn't make it better.

The widescreen format is far better... Joss should be thanking Fox for fixing his deficiency as a filmmaker!

@SecNotSure

You're thinking about DBZ Kai

The DBZ Re-Releases are the DBZ Uncut Blu Rays which just finished the 9th season in which they cropped the show to make it widescreen, which isn't as bad as it seems. I own all of the uncut DBZ Blu Rays. The difference is there but it doesn't take away the effect.

I agree with Joss on this one...However his decision to shoot Avengers in 1.85:1 is f.ucking retarded.

@KidGoku

My mistake. I haven't seen any of the blu ray versions yet, probably won't either considering I already have it on dvd. I was under the impression those re-releases were DBZ Kai. Good to know.
