A Tasty Burger review: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2...Seriously.
Just give me a chance guys...
It's no secret that the Twilight Saga isn't exactly a miracle of modern filmmaking; in fact the series has been widely regarded as a disgrace to modern cinema. Having only seen the first part of the final installment I went into Breaking Dawn - Part 2 expecting the worst, however I'm actually shocked to say that I kind of enjoyed it...
Breaking Dawn - Part 2 follows the Cullen family as they have to gather friends and family to protect newly born Renesmee from the Volturi.
Breaking Dawn - Part 2 uses the same formula as the previous installments; bad writing, acting and directing. As expecting the script is absolutely awful featuring great lines such as, "We're the same temperature now...", the same corny romance is also constantly thrown at your face throughout the entire film. The acting is still awful: Kristen Stewart barely smiles, Robert Pattinson seems bored and Taylor Lautner is just itching to take off his shirt. The effects are also terrible, everything from the awful running to the decapitations looks completely unnatural. Not to mention the horrifying CGI Baby.
The film is also flooded with annoying pop songs that are constantly playing in the background, at times you can barely hear the awful dialogue due to the pretentious song blasting from the background. The film also touches on pedophilia (and I'm not talking about the 50 year old Mothers flocking to the Cinemas), Taylor Lautner's character Jacob has imprinted on young Renesmee imaging himself "hanging out" with her in the future. Throughout the film we always see Jacob by her side, Twihards will constantly defend this as a cute sub plot but honestly it's just creepy.
However the film does have some redeeming qualities, mainly in the form of the introduction of some "real" Vampires and a kick-ass fight scene towards the film's climax. The film introduces us to one character named Garret, who is probably the closest to a real Vampire that you'll get with the Twilight saga, when we first meet him we witness him feeding upon a drunken singer down a back alley. Pretty awesome right? Despite the awful effects the fight scene at the film's climax was insane! Blood was flying through the air, there were some emotional blows and more decapitations than I could count! However despite the great fight scene the film's ending will still leave you very disappointed, especially after such a brutal scene.
Overall whilst Breaking Dawn Part 2 suffers from the same issues that have plagued the previous installments it's actually a pretty fun time at the movies. Except for the CGI Baby.
Director: Bill Condon
Starring: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.
As always, thanks for reading this review and have a good day!
