MTV Splash Page recently sat down with War Machine's co-creator and now we have the final installment. Bob explained why he thinks Iron Man 2 is the right time for us to see Jim Rhodes suit up as War Machine:

“I think there are a variety of reasons to have the War Machine character in there,” offered Layton. “If they’re doing the ‘Avengers’ film, they always have the option of using War Machine instead of Iron Man depending upon what happens contractually. I’m just speculating, I have no idea… But there’s always the possibility that if it does well, it can spinoff. Because obviously there’s a different character and a different motivation with War Machine than there is with Tony Stark.”

He also shot down the rumor that Kate Mara was cast as Bethany Cabe in the movie.

“I think there was a rumor on IMDB that Kate Mara was playing Bethany Cabe,” Layton told MTV News. “But that’s not the case. I think she plays an FBI agent briefly in the movie. There are no plans for Bethany Cabe in this movie, as far as I know.”

Layton believes his “Demon in a Bottle” storyline would be the perfect underline in the already planned Iron Man 3 movie. The Demon story follows Tony's battle with alcohol as he attempts to save Stark Enterprises along with his reputation from Justin Hammer, played by Sam Rockwell in Iron Man 2.

“I think they’ve come up with a terrific segue to the third film, which I think is going to be fairly powerful,” said Layton. “My understanding is that the third film could very well be the ‘Demon in a Bottle’ story mixed in there with everything and I’m kind of looking forward to that, if that’s where they wind up going.”

DogsOfWar-I like his concept of War Machine being available for later Avengers movies. As much as I would rather see Iron Man in there, it keeps the movies on a tight production schedule and we don't have to worry about money or Robert Downey Jr stepping away from the Iron Man role. He has alluded to this in the past that he wants to step away from acting in the near future.

@Bman: Lol! War Machine tits!

@Dogs: Sorry dude, already commented on Multi's article of the same exact thing although I think yours might have gone up a little sooner.

I agree with everyone else. I think putting War Machine in the Avengers would feel forced. It would feel like they creators threw him in just for the sake of having a tolken black superhero on the team (Nick Furry doesn't count). If you gotta put a black guy on the team, do it right with the Black Panther or maybe even the Falcon. War Machine... I dunno. However, Marvel's been doing a great job so far with the movies so if they do chose to put War Machine in the Avengers, I trust that they'll do right by everybody.
