John Krasinski: Captain America Role Is His To Lose

Fox News Entertainment blog's sources are saying deal is just about done.

Insiders at the Marvel compound tell Fox 411 that he is close to landing the superhero gig of his life. John, who plays Jim on "The Office," has appeared in front of producers repeatedly since the start of the new year and since rumors began in February.

"John has read 4 times and is doing screen tests," our source tells us. "He has screen tested 2 times so far. It's very likely that he will be the new Captain America. He is a favorite among the key decision makers and has been asked to come back for more this week."

At this point, Krasinski is the main focus at Marvel.

"The big bosses are having him read with multiple actresses up for the female leads. They want to lock down the role and then they will narrow down everyone else."

Unfortunately, "The Office" star is not the chosen one for many comic fans who work for Marvel.

"It's a surprise and we are bracing ourselves for 'that guy from 'The Office'' to land Captain America. They are not really looking at the other guys, so it's time to get ready to work with him."

"If John gets offered the role, the pay will not be outrageous but it would be a multi-film deal. Marvel has big plans to tie the movies together and John would have parts in all of them since the first Captain America will be an origin story. The movie will break down how Steve Rogers becomes Captain America."

aaaahhhhhh this is a difficult cookie to swallow. I think he is fully capable of doing a great job with the acting, but good lord, this guy does not look the role....AT ALL.

if it's true we can only hope there is a side to his acting chops we haven't seen yet (Ledger showed us this is possible). The original article I read citing John as a contender for the role made the best point to be made in the search for Cap... whoever they choose has to be able to upstage RDJ and you have to believe that the guy has the gravitas, the hookspa, the cahones, the big hairy sweaty ones necessary to command a group of bad asses such as Thor, Hulk and Iron Man

Sickly Steve will only have 20 lines at the most and he HAS shown the ability to portray weak just as much as strong!!! He IS the best choice ever to portray the only mortal to need nothing more than his sheild to storm down hell's gates and come out of there ALIVE!!!!

Well he is definetly going to have to hit the gym, but I think they know what they are doing. Not the first choice I would make, but the fact is he is a good actor. Christopher Reeves was a unknown and made a great superman.

i just HOPE HOPE HOPE HOPE they dye his hair blonde - i mean it's marvel and if they're putting stevenson in a fat suit for Thor im sure they'll pay attention to that kind of stuff. i hope we don't get a Chris Evans from FF deal - he was awesome but how much better would a dye job have made him look as johnny storm

God, please let this be a rumour. The thought of Krasinski playing Captain America is really, really awful. If he's cast I think I'll lose ALL faith in this movie!

I think a guy like Krasinski can definitely be believable as an actor, acting out the role.

But again, they would have to pull major movie magic here...

-he does not have blonde hair
-he does not have a strong chin or squared jaw
-he has no muscle
-he has a lot of chest hair-
-he has a big nose
-he has big ears

Steve Rogers is supposed to be the perfect human specimen. He's supposed to be "beautiful"

I know Marvel has more to go on for a judgement on this dude than I do. I just hope he has shown them something I have yet to see, otherwise my expectations for this movie will drop from 100 to 0 real quick. It's plummeting even as we speak.

In 1980, Chris Reeve was a great Superman! Today he'd look like a Panzy!!! Routh is beefier than Reeve ever was yet he's ridiculed off the screen!!! Shrekzinsky is the worst possible choice off that list!!!

This is just a rumour until confirmed otherwise!!!

i just don't know what to think about this. i think it can't possibly be true, but if it is, should i be disappointed about the casting or glad it's not one of the other douches that read for the part? i guess that's a compromise by definition. on the other hand, if they go with a prime time comedic actor, then he MUST be showing them something awesome in his readings. we'll see

Vogel, Hedlund and even an Aussie (Worthington) would be OCEANS better than Shrekzinsky!!!

Swear to god if this clown gets the role, i'm done with sketches for as long as it takes me to get over this shit!!! I don't care if Ackles doesn't get the role, there are PLENTY of TALENTED actors that actually LOOK THE [frick]ING PART!!! Why pic this scrotum for America's Captain?!?!?!?

I think if Krasinski is casted, it's because Marvel knows something we do not. It would have to be because he blew them away with his screen tests. Do we believe and trust taht Marvel knows what it is doing?

My two cents is faith can move mountains, but dynamite works better.

I must have looked at a dozen clips of this guy acting and in interviews on YouTube and nothing about him makes me think he's right for Cap!

Forgetting my own personal choices of Jensen Ackles and Ryan McPartlin for a minute and looking at the guy un-biased I just cant see him as being a good choice!

He doesnt have the right look, voice, acting background or demeanor to make a good Cap and nothing makes me think he could suprise us with a great performance.

Marvel havent gotten a lot wrong yet but there's a first time for everything. It looks like that first time will be [frick]ing up the casting of their most important comic book character.

[frick]ing unbelievable. :(

This CANCER of a choice will affect the AVENGERS!!! How can they be SO stupid....Is no one thinking ahead? He looks like SHREK!!! He has no time to fix his build before they start shooting, he is not intimidating in the least!!!! I'm sorely disappointed in you MARVEL.

well looks like a really decent Hulk reboot, an amazing Iron Man, and what so far looks like the making of an even better Iron Man sequel isnt enough for you guys to trust marvel? Ed Norton= Great Bruce Banner, RDJ= PERFECT stark, obviously jackson is fury, but look there has been NO poor casting in the Marvel line up so far... cut them a break and trust them,... none of you know better about this than the studio who made what we all love. Theyve earned the right to cast whoopie goldberg for cap without us giving them shit.. just wait and see what happens and if its him, give him a shot

If i had Shrekzinsky's face and build, i wouldn't take this role no matter how much money Marvel threw at me because it's sacrilegious!!! How could a [frick]er like Singer get a Reeve lookalike(of all the needles in haystacks) but Marvel is shit out of luck to find an accurate looking Captain America?!?!?!?! WTF!!!!!!!!!

I've given up on hating John K. ...it could have been a lot worse...Dane Cook and The Jonas Brothers are bad enough...hopefully they're just doing cameos for the USO tour scenes....I'm not sure if this picture makes John look more like Cap but it's one of his better ones...

This is a step above Will Smith or a Jonas Brother, but only a small one. I can NOT see this guy as Captain America. He looks NOTHING like Steve Rogers.

Aaron Eckhart is a much better choice.

The biggest thing for me is the look. I like this choice because I think Krasinski has some quality acting chops to him. So in this regard, I like him much better than Chace Crawford etc. etc.

Again, the look.... his nose, for example, it's just so big and wide and long.

You know I did find it odd that he was in Jimmy Kimmel's Hansome Mens Club skit with all those big name actors after the Oscars on his show when he was interviewing Robert Downey for the Iron Man 2 trailer. Think about it Jimmy Kimmel's show on ABC owned my Disney which owns Marvel. I think he did get the part damn it.

Shaman@ it's not that they can't find an accurate look-alike.

it's just that the story they want to use narrows down their choices alot. SO MANY older actors would be awesome. brad pitt, matt damon, mark valley and so many other you guys have mentioned. but for some reason they don't want to change the story up just a little in order to get a better actor.
