Kevin Bacon Will Surprise You

So says Matthew Vaughn for the upcoming X-Men: First Class

Director Matthew Vaughn is very excited about bringing home the Bacon (sorry, couldn't help it) for X-Men: First Class and is a big fan of Kevin's career dating back to Footloose. Mtv caught up with him while promoting the release of Kick-Ass on DVD. Unfortunately Vaughn didn't reveal much, just that the character will have some very big moments in the story.


"I don't think it would be right to give that away, but he's really going for it," said Vaughn when asked about Bacon's character in the film. "He's really up for it, and he's going for it. I'm just thrilled that we could get him."

"He will surprise you," said Vaughn. "I'll put it that way: He will surprise you with the kind of things he will do in this movie. He's not going to be what you expect at all when you first meet him in the film, you will be surprised that it's him."

DogsOfWar-The veteran actor has been linked to a few notable villains with Sebastian Shaw looking the most likely. Mr. Sinister was another big character name thrown out early but has been dismissed by many. Vaughn appears to be working very hard to have lots of surprises in store. The script has been on lockdown and it has been widely reported that casting decisions may portray different characters than those announced.

I have a hunch this movie will suck no matter how surprised we are... the Fox X-Men series was destined to fail when they decided Wolverine was the only X-Man that mattered.

The movie looks like it'll be pre-Cyclops and Jean Grey to me. Since Emma Frost will make an appearance, I would like to see the Hellfire Club and Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw.

I still can't forgive Matthew for saying that comic book films will die out. Either way I do not feel too optimistic about X Men. Horrible studio those Foxers, mediocre cast, mediocre director, X Men's bad film history.

The guy is a great actor and I'm looking forward to seeing him play a villain in this movie, whoever he might be playing, but this whole thing just looks like a mess judging by what I've heard so far. It'll be interesting to see if Vaughn can manage to make it into a coherent film rather than an X-Men Origins: Wolverine style mess.

Lol X-men 4? Come on now...you know that will never happen. Until Marvel gets the rights back and finally gets to a 4th movie in the franchise about 30 years from now.

Who wrote the script for this movie btw?

I wish this movie wasn't being made, but since it is...

I think that Bacon will end up being the guy behind the guy. He'll be Mr. Sinister, pulling the strings of random rogue mutants like Ramrod and Darwin, maybe Azazel (perhaps Vaughns version of the Nasty Boys - tho I prefer Gorgeous George and Ruckus).

I think the relationship between Frost, Magneto and Xavier will be the focal point, with Xavier and Mactagert splitting to one side and Frost and Magneto to the other (Maybe even Frost defecting to Sinister's group).

Either way...I hope that this script is worth all the "surprises"

Whats the mutant list we have so far? Azazel, Mystique, Havok, Ramrod, Darwin, Xavier, Mags, Frost? Who am I missing?

i cant see how this film can wrong great director, great writer, good cast

(im sure someone will say 'aww but its made by fox')
yeah the same studio that gave us shite films like alien and predator and star wars.
and some god awful tv shows like the simpsons and arrested development (which got canceled by the [foo foo]s, one of only few stupid mistakes theyve made)

OMG! I know what the surprise will be, Fox will actually make Bacon's character true to the comics, give him the screentime he deserves and the character will actually make sense to the plot

That would be a huge surprise because Fox hasnt done that before! lol

I used to be a huge X-Men fan, but I've only been disapointed by their versions thus far. I don't understand their concept here-

Studio peeps (execs)-
"Let's make two bad ass characters realish like Wolverine and Sabretooth, which will be our only golden eggs, but since they are so awesome, we have to balance it out so let's utterly destroy the rest of the x-men characters INCLUDING fan favorites like Gambit cause we think we can get away with it. I mean, who cares about Gambit right? Let's make him a pussy, and have a pimp cane too. Yeah. Sweet idea huh?"

Fellow Coworker/Exec-
"Oo pimp cane! Genius! Fanboys won't tell the difference between a staff and a pimp cane. Psh fans. Fans don't know what these characters look and act like but we do. Lucky for us they don't know we don't read or follow any of the comics. It's easier for us to make things up as we go than to do some research."

Thanks for the info.

Even though you are right that FOX has brought us some great stuff in the past, none of this has been recent. FOX also has an especially bad rap for making horrible comic book movies. So yeah, this always has a chance to be a stinker because FOX is that bad when they are involved in the process. Vaughn gives the project hope though. (I haven't seen Stardust or Kick-Ass, but I guess both are supposed to be good, so Jane Goldman is a plus as well)

Btw we would get along great, Guinness is awesome.

only leads me to one conclusion
Sentinels
not only that but the surprise will be
that Bacon is the voice and casting face
of the mutant hating gobots
either that or Bastion
all of this makes sense
already tried including the sentinels
just didn't have the budget
now they do
just think about it
i wouldn't be surprised at all

imma put this out there an say hes gonna be mephisto i think he has the look for it (and yes i hes not old like the one in the ghost rider movie but mephisto could look how ever he wants more or less) an since azazel is in it that would make alittle sense if mephisto was i mean its a slight strech but i dont think the other ones like shaw an sinister make to much sense or atleast in the current like i would think they would wonna build a story arch or abit of history befor adding them but to right out of the gate those 2 it would be alittle odd i already think azazel is odd choise but meh anyways

No matter how you look at it...there's a heluva lot of characters being cast for this film. But I also remember when The Last Stand was being cast and there were a lot of random mutants being cast for that too...I like Vaughn so I have faith that he will come up with a decent finished product.

I heard Sebastian Shaw too. I think casting Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw would be incredibly stupid. Maybe he'll be Mastermind (Jason Wyngarde)after all.
