Why we need Superman now...

Superman. The name alone strikes a chord with America as a symbol of hope and power. There is nothing more iconic than seeing him fly through the air and I think someone else should don the S and take flight...

Superman is, for one thing, everyone's Jesus. What I mean by that is Superman is almost relatable to the story of Christ without becoming a religious figure. And to all you naysayers that deny this, let me give you this picture


"They can be a great people Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you my only son"- Jor El of Krypton.

So now that that's out of the way: since Superman is everyone's savior there needs to be another movie. While I am aware of the issues surrounding the property, there needs to be a movie to raise our spirits. Arguably, we have seen worse times in the world within the last decade, but after what many considered a failure of a Superman movie in "Returns," I feel it would only be necessary to have another one. This has been proven to be effective in sales. While I don't condone a profit in sales based on low morale, it could be effective. Take for instance "Smallville," only one month after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, "Smallville" appeared on tv screens around the country, in the homes of people who needed hope more than ever. While this isn't the same as a movie, it shows that if you have a live action Superman it will succeed ( Superman 4 doesn't exist to me). If there were to be action and tense scenes only slightly over the top than "The Dark Knight" then it would seem more inspiring than watching Lex Luthor make another real estate scheme. With some known faces in Hollywood, it could even be an ensemble piece. Also, I was in favor of a Superman epic trilogy akin to "The Lord of the Rings" that was planned by Mark Millar. A grand story of that size would define the medium forever as more than just a "Man in Tights" movie--it could be an epic. And in our time of need, all we really need is Superman.

I agree there needs to be another but i dont see him as god but i can see how people would see him that way

I feel like I'm a minority on this, but I want the next Superman movie to take place on more than Earth. I want Earth there, but I want him to leave Earth to protect it from an extraterrestrial threat. On (whichever) planet, his powers act differently and suddenly Supes is in a place he rarely finds himself in.

Singer made "Returns" his Christ analogy. There's no need to re-tell the origin. Richard Donner's "Superman" showed the hope that he would bring to a city with accidents and crime. What to do differently? There is a need to show why Earth/America needs a defender. It would be smart to show his inspiration for the Justice League with or without his inclusion to membership. Oh, why not a new twist: Lois knows or helps him get suited up? They need a new focus that separates them from Singer, the first four, and "Smallville."

You know we do need another Superman Movie. I'm not a real big fan of Reboots within a 10 year span. (Hulk)only exception

I'm tired of everyone talking about Superman and Batman like they're the only two players in the DC universe. PEOPLE - DC/Warner Brothers needs to STOP putting all of their eggs in the Superman/Batman movie basket! With the rights to the Big Blue Schoolboy tied up in legal mumbo-jumbo and Batman on hiatus, now is the time they need to diversify!! More movies with MORE CHARACTERS (and not just Green Lantern)! As much as I like the Hal, let's face it, he's never going to fill Big Blue's shoes. IF (and that's a big if) DC looses the rights to our favorite Kryptonian, they're gonna' need to do some SERIOUS damage control! Take a page from the Marvel movie play-book - FLOOD THE MARKET! If they did a decent Wonder Woman movie, I MIGHT be willing to forgive that god-awful 'Catwoman' POS with Halle Berry!

I would like a Superman movie made, this time without Lex being the one and only source of evil. And I agree with you loganoneil, where's the Flash? It would be a kick ass movie.

And CrisisKing, I'll say it again, this god complex you have with Superman is completely out of whack.

Point taken, strange though considering it was two Jewish men who created Superman.

And Kal-El was not sent to Earth to give hope and inspire, the parents were hoping he would find a new home and survive. By the way, I'm glad you stopped deleting my posts and actually respond, it's hard to have a debate with someone when they don't say anything.

Not that I'm into dudes or anything, but if I don't see Welling in tights inside of 2 years I'm going to freak out!! He's 25 AND has a Legion ring!!! Hell I could fly with a Legion ring!!!

Still Crisis, I just debunked that point you made. Superman was never sent to do anything but survive. His entire world was ending the last thing on his parent's mind was, "Hey, just before everything is destroyed we should make sure to send our only son to Earth so he can keep them safe."

No, he was sent to just live on and hopefully be excepted. That's far from Jesus, and like I said, he was invented by two Jewish guys who based him off of some mythology.
