Let’s face the truth- comic book movies are awesome. I know it, you know it, everyone in their right mind knows it. If you don’t think they’re awesome, then what are you doing on this website? Unless, of course, you are a friend of mine who I convinced to make an account just so you can give me a “thumbs up” on all of my articles. (hint, hint, it’s at the bottom of the page) In that case, let me applaud you for actually reading one of my articles. Have I mentioned what a great friend you are?

Anyway, my point is, comic book movies are awesome, but sometimes they can be downright silly. What made me realize that? Well, I believe it was during the climax of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as I watched a teenager clad head-to-toe in red spandex spontaneously created ropes to swing on in order to chase after a blue shiny man who was floating like Casper the ghost.

Fine, I will admit that that battle scene was far more awesome than funny. However, the same cannot be said for this photo:

In which it appears that the Winter Soldier is flying a human kite. Or how about this picture...

...where Sabretooth appears to be practicing his “jazz hands.” If you are looking for more reasons to dislike Brett Ratner, how about you take a gander at this picture of the director and Hugh Jackman:

Yup, if you can believe your eyes, that is a never-before-seen production still of the never released musical that Ratner and Jackman shot on the set of X-Men: The Last Stand. Who knew, right?

And let’s not forget this little beauty…

The less said about that one, the better.

Have you seen both The Avengers and The Dark Knight? If you are on this website, you almost certainly have. (Unless you are a friend of mine, then I would like to remind you that you can also share and like this article on Facebook and Twitter.) In The Avengers, one of the phrases that Black Widow repeatedly uses is that she has “red in her ledger.” Am I the only who thought of the late, great Heath Ledger, star of The Dark Knight, whenever she said those words?

In The Dark Knight, there is a man named Coleman Reese, who threatens to reveal Batman’s secret identity to the public. Is it just me, or does this guy look a lot like Joss Whedon, the man who would go on to write and direct The Avengers?

I know, both of these things are probably coincidences (especially because Whedon had not yet been hired to direct The Avengers at the time of The Dark Knight’s release, much less filming). However, isn’t it much more fun to think of these things as little references to the other movies?

I know what you are thinking. “This is what this guy finds funny? Where did he develop his sense of humor?” Or if you are my friend, you are thinking, “How long can this guy babble on about nothing?” The answer is a very, very long time.

Anyhoo, I would like to call your attention to Shawn Ashmore, who played Bobby Drake, AKA Iceman, in the X-Men trilogy, and also X-Men: Days of Future Past. I am a big fan of Iceman, both in the movies and the comics. I am sure you can probably guess that by my user name. The point is, this guy has a funny last name. Am I the only one who thinks it is extremely ironic to hire a guy with the name “Ashmore” to play a character called “Iceman”?

Fine, maybe that’s just me. What about Scarlett Johansson? Is it not bizarre that a woman whose first name is “Scarlett” is playing a character called “Black Widow”? I do not know why the Scarlet Witch is going to be played by Elizabeth Olson, she clearly should be played by a woman whose first name is “Black”.

Since we were just talking about Iceman and my user name, I was wondering, how many of you realized my user name was a pun when you first saw it? In case you are too lazy to scroll up the page, it is “BobbyDrakeApproaches”. If you still do not understand the joke, I do not blame you. In order to get it, you must be familiar with the X-Men, and also vaguely familiar with classic Broadway theatre. There is an old play that debuted in 1946, titled, “The Iceman Cometh”. Bobby Drake is the Iceman of the X-Men, and “Approaches” is a modern version of the word “Cometh”. I just blew your mind, didn’t I?

Finally, before I leave you, and you go back to your life of reading articles you actually enjoy, I offer you one more joke:

Did you know that Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy are not in love at the beginning of The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

The truth is, she doesn’t fall for him until the end of the movie.

Did you enjoy this article? Did you laugh at my corny jokes? Do you have any more extremely goofy comic book movie photos? Do you want the last ten minutes of your life back? Let me know in the comments!

I didn't laugh, but the first couple were a little amusing. It just got more forced as it went on though.

I lol'ed. Some people (apparently a lot of comic nerds) just have no sense of humor.

P.S. You've been thumbed....again ;)
SniktBub - 6/9/2014, 10:48 PM

StingyFox - 6/9/2014, 10:50 PM

Scorpion8125 - 6/10/2014, 12:27 AM

All girls fall for Peter.

Some just don't make it back up.

I wish i found TASM 2 itself as a comedy, instead the reviews bashing and hating on TASM 2 made me laugh.
Pasto - 6/10/2014, 7:16 AM
Awesome editorial is awesome.

I just wonder if Spidey's doing all he can to take advantage of those lovely powers of his, specifically- in the bedroom. I mean, hey.. if I had the ability to "do whatever a spider can", I'm grabbing my girlfriend and taking it to the f*cking ceiling, y'know? On the ceiling, up the walls, down the side of a building..

Arachnid Erectus Maximus. I don't even know what the f*ck that means, but it sounds positively filthy.

Sod "power and responsibility", to hell with it.. "action is his reward" is where it's at.
cipher - 6/10/2014, 8:29 AM
Also, I'm convinced the reason Spidey never had a tongue when he wore the black suit despite the fact that Venom did was because he's sexually repressed.

Yup. Let 'er rip, boy, let 'er rip.
yossarian - 6/10/2014, 8:51 AM
I like clicking things.

Wow, you guys made my day! It was worth it to write this editorial, if only to read all of these hilarious comments!
sKeemAn - 6/10/2014, 9:15 AM
We've got something in common. Iceman is my favorite X-men as well. He was my avatar for like 3 years.
MileHighRonin - 6/10/2014, 9:42 AM
I get what you mean. Example Django unchained, one of the first things I think is you got Nick Fury , Electro, and Alycia Masters. The Prestige, you got Wolverine and Batman in a film. My wife calls it my inner comic book man coming out. Nice article, entertaining.
Brainiac13 - 6/10/2014, 9:50 AM
:)

DrunkenNukem - 6/10/2014, 9:59 AM
He doesn´t look like Joss Whedon to me...
kozmyn - 6/10/2014, 10:46 AM
Apparently Black Widow does some "jazz hands" of her own, and she looks mighty fine doing it! :P
KelvTwelve - 6/10/2014, 11:43 AM
THAT GODDAMN SPIDER-MAN JOKE, I CHOKED ON MY MILK FOR A SEC
dethpillow - 6/10/2014, 12:14 PM
Huzzah! good fellow, and hats off to Bobby!

it is clear u speak vaudevillian.

"And for what it is, hear what my theory is
Some gibberish, it is so serious
Yeah, what we need is more silly men"
as a very silly man once crooned.

great article!
dethpillow - 6/10/2014, 12:20 PM
@Jollem - What about my jib, Jollem?

do u like the cut of my jib?
u didn't say anything about it in your comment above, so maybe u just forgot to mention anything about my jib.
dethpillow - 6/10/2014, 12:28 PM
@MileHighRonin - that's funny, my girlfriend calls it that too.

she does weird things to me at night to make my inner comic book man come out. sometimes it kinda hurts or feels funny, hard to explain exactly. but she spends a lot of energy to have it happen, and it seems like she's happier afterwards.

girls are so weird and mysterious sometimes.
CherryBomb - 6/10/2014, 2:23 PM
Funny article! I never noticed a lot of these things.
MightOfSentinel - 6/10/2014, 2:40 PM
This is funny!
MileHighRonin - 6/10/2014, 3:55 PM
@dethpillow, take it as a complement. My wife does the same, "its cute to see how much you love comics". Don't try to understand it just be happy she loves it.
dethpillow - 6/10/2014, 11:14 PM
@MileHighRonin - haha, ok, probably good advice, you're right.
:0)
EthanSmith - 6/11/2014, 12:27 AM
Yeah sometimes Comic Book fans have no sense of humor.

ThunderKat - 6/11/2014, 8:02 PM
Good effort.

It was nice to get something different.
GuardianDevil - 6/15/2014, 1:38 AM
How about you fact that Erik Lensherr is of Jewish heritage and kills Shaw with a coin.

That one made me laugh.,.
