After being rumored to direct Preacher, it is now confirmed that D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye) will helm the long awaited adaptation for Columbia Pictures. Thanks to The Film Stage for finding this confirmation...

The story follows an ex-preacher man, Jesse, who has become disgusted with God’s abandoning of His responsibilities. So Jesse starts off into the wilds of Texas with his hitman girlfriend and new best friend (a vampire) to find God so that he can give Him a piece of his mind.

flames809 - 2/22/2011, 9:00 AM
cool
repulse93 - 2/22/2011, 9:02 AM
I'm not gonna say anything, but I have a feeling that if the movie is great, it's because DJ Caruso respects the source material.

If it sucks... I'm gonna blame Columbia.
StevilNYC - 2/22/2011, 9:03 AM

Watch the this movie or go to a beach and count the sand
Roland - 2/22/2011, 9:06 AM
I have flipped through a few of the Preacher comics in the store and they seemed way to vulgar for me to enjoy. My dad is a real preacher and it was kinda insulting. It just felt wrong.
StevilNYC - 2/22/2011, 9:06 AM
Cap has a horrible director too but we're all being optimistic on that one.
RorMachine - 2/22/2011, 9:10 AM
I'll give him a chance, but I swear to the Saint Of Killers if he [frick]s this up there will not be an I Am Number 5!
flames809 - 2/22/2011, 9:11 AM
who cares whose directing just be happy ya getting a movie of these.
Amazo - 2/22/2011, 9:12 AM
This is sh*t news :( They'll frick it up and put the whole world off an awesome book they might have picked up otherwise. If they have to do it,a miniseries or on going series on tv would have been the way to go.I just know this movie will P*SS ME OFF!!!! :@
Teois42 - 2/22/2011, 9:14 AM
Oh cool, I love Disturbia... but CAN this guy do Preacher?
Amazo - 2/22/2011, 9:16 AM

AlexDeLarge87 - 2/22/2011, 9:16 AM

RorMachine - 2/22/2011, 9:17 AM
Flames, thoughtful people who want to see the best movie possible care.
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/22/2011, 9:18 AM
Ror@ agree
StevilNYC - 2/22/2011, 9:21 AM
@Intruder - I hope you're wrong. I hold Preacher at the top of my all time favorites. Watchmen at a steady second. He can't mess this up because Ror and myself will take action if he [frick]s this up.

I'm just happy we're finally getting a Preacher movie. Who do you guys want for Jesse?
flames809 - 2/22/2011, 9:21 AM
ror- yea i know but know people are [female dog]ing about everything is getting annoying and i never read this comic but i want it to be good as it could be. and he also a good director.
flames809 - 2/22/2011, 9:24 AM
grif this has nothing to do with that movie.
StevilNYC - 2/22/2011, 9:24 AM
@flames - dude, head to a Borders and read the first one. You'll understand.
flames809 - 2/22/2011, 9:26 AM
stev- nah im good. lol
Superzero - 2/22/2011, 9:30 AM
Shia Lebouf for Arse-Face!
Mysterion - 2/22/2011, 9:34 AM
I am #4 bombed at the box office, so the movie studio execs that thought they had a new franchise on hand, are all facepalming this morning
Lert - 2/22/2011, 9:38 AM
ill wait for the reboot!!
RedeyeJedi - 2/22/2011, 9:42 AM
Worst news ever!! This can't be true!
Daniellantern - 2/22/2011, 9:44 AM

Preacher Fan Cast

My fan cast for Preacher
Would have preferred a HBO series but even if this movie does badly, it might get some more publicity on the series leading to a better adaptation
marvel72 - 2/22/2011, 9:57 AM
i want to see a preacher film or tv show, but is this guy the right choice.

i don't think so.
bjvb997 - 2/22/2011, 9:59 AM
Man really hope this is turns out to be wrong, really bad feeling about this. It really does need to be a series, way to much of a story for a movie and you know that just means that it will be dramatically changed which sucks.
MatchesMalone - 2/22/2011, 10:04 AM
Out of the three movies I know this guy has directed, I've only seen Disturbia. It wasn't good. Not totally terrible, but not good either. It started decent enough, but degenerated into formulaic bullshit by the end. I heard similar things about Eagle Eye. I haven't checked the B.O. scores for I Am Number Four, but it sounds like some of you have and the results aren't very promising. There are so many directors out there that could do great things with Preacher. Why would they pick a guy who's O for 3? Preacher is way too awesome to give to some mediocre filmmaker. Like most people on here, I agree that this property would make a much better tv series like Walking Dead. If he respects the source material, it might be okay. But I just want to know how respectful D.J. Caruso can be by squeezing the wealth of Preacher material into a 2 hour movie. I'm not really happy about the director or medium choice for this.
Project8501 - 2/22/2011, 10:21 AM
agreed, HBO series
RorMachine - 2/22/2011, 10:29 AM
No he makes every movie all about visuals and forgets about character..maybe he'l stick a badly cgi'd bear or puma in there for good measure:)

Ah no, he's not BAD, but I wouldn't call him good either. Cap looks to be shaping up well but aside from Rocketeer I haven't really liked any of his movies. That's just my own opinion though.
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/22/2011, 10:31 AM
James Franco or Timothy Olyphant as Jesse Custer

Elizabeth Banks as Tulip O´Hare

Michael Fassbender as Proinsias Cassidy

Willem Dafoe as Herr Starr

Sharon Stone as Marie L´Angelle

Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Patrick Fugit as Arseface

Chris Cooper as Sheriff Hugo Root

Vincent D´Onofrio as Allfather D´Aronique

Kevin Durand as Jody

With Clint Eastwood or Clancy Brown as The Saint of Killers

And Gerard Butler as God
IrishMovieMan - 2/22/2011, 10:39 AM
please DJ cast John Cusack as Jesse
soberchimera - 2/22/2011, 10:47 AM
just keep shia laboeuf the hell away from this, I don't even respect him enough to play Arseface
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/22/2011, 10:57 AM
intruder@ Not a bad choice!:) I give my blessing to him if he can pull off irish accent. Fass is half irish and half german so to him that wouldnt be a problem.
TorturedXGenius - 2/22/2011, 10:57 AM
better as a HBo mini series
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/22/2011, 10:59 AM
magic8@ Yeah i know! I just picked them by their looks because i didnt find anyone else.
JediMasterJimMorrison - 2/22/2011, 11:19 AM
You mean the same guy who directed "Disturbia", "Eagle Eye" and "I Am Number Four"? We've waited years to get a confirmed director and we get this guy? Come On!!!
Bandrews1 - 2/22/2011, 11:20 AM
Hmmmm, he could be a good choice.
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/22/2011, 11:30 AM
intruder@ yeah it is!:) Taryn is not bad choice? Not the best thou but could work i think?
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/22/2011, 11:41 AM
How about Elizabeth Banks for Tulip!:D

FrankGarret - 2/22/2011, 11:47 AM
Rufus Sewell or Johnny Depp for Rev. Custer!

Read the rest of my fan cast here.
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/22/2011, 11:50 AM
Sewell and Depp are good choices!:D
thisheart - 2/22/2011, 11:57 AM
Terrible director choice. Joe Johnston is perfect for Cap IMO just like Branaugh is perfect for Thor, Nolan is perfect for Bats, Raimi was perfect for Spidey.

This is just lame lame lame. Director is the most important factor to make or break a movie, even more than the cast.

Flames, you might want to get your head examined.

I'm just glad this guy isn't doing Y: The Last Man. Damn, that would be a catastrophe.
thisheart - 2/22/2011, 12:00 PM
FrankGarret good choices, but it's funny how much Jesse looks like a young Jeff Goldblum in that pic! He's too old by now, but in his heyday, would've been great.

Still, I'd prefer someone like Robert Rodriguez or Zack Snyder to helm this.
MeanMachineAngel - 2/22/2011, 12:53 PM
This should be an HBO type series or nothing at all.
Wolfman22 - 2/22/2011, 1:10 PM
