Prisoners of Gravity was a Canadian public broadcasting television news magazine program that explored speculative fiction — science fiction, fantasy, horror, comic books — and its relation to various thematic and social issues. Produced by TVOntario, the show was the brainchild of former comic retail manager Mark Askwith, writer Daniel Richler, and was hosted by Rick Green (of The Frantics comedy troupe fame). The series aired 139 episodes over 5 seasons from 1989 to 1994.
I recently visited FanExpo 2010 in Toronto where I picked up the New Gods #1 and #3, The Forever People #1 and #2, Mister Miracle #1 etc. It was this that inspired me to put together this feature as a celebration of the wonderful work known as jack Kirby's Fourth World.
I have always been a huge fan of Jack Kirby. The man is a legend and it's a crime he is not a famous as Stan Lee outside the comic community. His work at Marvel legendary and his work at DC (i.e New Gods, Kamandi, Forever People etc.), while less popular, is no less brilliant.
