Think of the last film you saw; would it be the same if every explosion was silent?Or the score was missing? Sound effects and music changed the way we watched films and now, Marvel are hoping to do the same with comics!
Ed Brubaker's Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the first (of possibly many) comics that will be sent to the recording studio.

The comics will feature music behind specific panels or pages and effects such as gunshots when needed. Marvel is using their subscription service, Marvel Unlimited, to sell the comics. The final verdict on whether the feature will stay or go will be down to fan's reaction to the new addition. Marvel currently plan to add audio and music to all of the stories currently in the Unlimited backlog.

What do you think of Marvel's latest idea? Would you rather comics were left as they were or brought up to date? Sign off your thoughts on the matter below!

How would this affect print comics? Would they work like those 'sound' birthday cards?
Darth258 - 3/9/2014, 1:08 PM
I hope they are planning this just for the digital comics, because on the printed comics would be idiotic.

This already exists.

We had this way back in the 70's except the comic came with a 45 record. Stan Lee narrated the story and there were other actors performing the main characters, all topped off with some very cheesy sound effects. It was fun when I was 8 years old but I think I'll pass this time around :)

^^^

Of course this is just for digital, how else would you have sounds and such on specific panels?

Interesting concept, not really sure if it's needed or worth it, but probably worth experimenting with for sure

So would this include like Foley and stuff as well? Could be interesting, add a sort of atmosphere to it to enhance the panels...unnecessary but might be worth a look

Stupid. Comics are a type of book; they're not made to have sound.

Dumb idea for printed stuff. Imagination is my sound when I read printed material.

This will probably suck. Sporadic, crappy recordings of gunshot sounds and bad voice acting? Lol.
KeefNCookies - 3/9/2014, 2:22 PM
Considering Marvel's rumored to be thinking about shutting down all printing, this isnt a surprise. Also wouldnt be surprised if they had really terrible vocals like they tend to do in all their videos.

While I enjoy reading comics on the computer, I dont care for the widescreen digital stuff they're doing (infinite comics for example). Keep it printing!

This sounds so stupid, lol.

If Marvel stops printing their comics, they have earned the title of 'Dumbass'. That is easily one of the stupidest things they could do.

Before all of you guys start bashing the feature why don you try it first?

If you have IOS and Marvel Unlimited it is available as we speak.

I just tried it with the winter soldier comic and IT IS AWESOME. It really ads a level of depth to the story and i found myself taking more time exploring the panel rather than reading quickly as i usually do.

I was skeptic at first but this new audio thing is awesome

@Destruktor2k - Marvel Unlimited is the raddest thing. i am so glad i signed up for that. i want to check this out now.

i never even use my phone for comics, but this makes me wanna figure it out.
