Iranian government bans The Simpsons and Barbie but allows Superman and Spider-Man

Despite The Iranian government's hatred for Western culture they apparently have a soft spot for Superman and Spider-Man.

Well you can now add The SIMPSONS and BARBIE to a list that includes ice cream, homosexuals, freedom of religion, women’s rights, and interest in developing nuclear weapons: all of which are things that are supposedly not in Iran. Two things you can’t add to that list however are admiration and allowance for Spider-Man and Superman dolls. So we can pretty much assume from this that, when those crazy fun loving ayatollahs aren’t busy subjugating women, stoning adulterers, and dreaming of a Jewish genocide, they like to kick back with a good Superman or Spider-Man comic. Why? Well according to an article I found on THE DAILY MAIL ONLINE it’s because Superman and Spider-Man “help the oppressed”.….

They "help the OPPRESSED" that stupid country OPRESSES everyone!!!! Superman and Spider-Man would be appalled!!!! The only thing I can hope is that little kids will read these and grow up to be good responsible people who will help fix their country's messed up problems.

I guess as long as a Government gives their people the illusion of freedom they'll assume that they are.

THEY FRICKING NEED TO STAY IN THERE OWN COUNTRY AND NOT COME TO MINE TO CHANGE THE LAWS AND FRICK IT UP...

Well, you don't get many better examples of Western consumerism and decline in "values" than Barbie and the Simpsons.

One is a blatant consumer grab for the "vapid twig" demographic, and inspires young girls to aspire to that image. There are quite a few places in THIS country that would probably like to ban Barbie.

As for the Simpsons, the subtle political commentary that it contains is more than enough for Iran's fundamentalist government to be leery of it. After all, its done a wonderful job of programming a large segment of the American population for the last 20 years, raising the bar of what is "acceptable" in terms of content to such a level that we wound up producing ever more "edgy" and graphic entertainment to slake our thirst.

Honestly, I can't really blame them.
