Mild Spoilers What can we find in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 trailer?

A day on from the first trailer for Sony's next installment in the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, which has so far raised more questions than it has answered, let's look at what we can really see in the trailer. Hit the jump to find out!

From the Sinister Six to rumors of Venom, The Amazing Spider-Man: Rise of Electro trailer has certainly got people talking and right now Sony are looking strong going into 2014's CBM war.

But as well as being a truely, wait for it, amazing trailer (see what I did there?), we also have some brilliant blink and you'll miss it moments, and luckily for you here they are.

The Final Battle?

First up we have what may well be one of the last parts of the film, Spidey and Electro's unavoidable showdown. The two shots, taken from either end of the trailer, seem to show two things clearly, Spider-Man v Electro and lots of destruction.

Look closely between Peter and the NYPD's luckiest officer and you'll see a pretty clearly defined blue figure. I wonder who that could be and what do they want to do in Times Square?

Oh... well... I suppose we can add another few billion to the US debt pot, you know, for clean up and stuff...

The Rhinobots

Grimlock Sorry, Rhino's suit design has come under a monumental amount of scrutiny since pictures first hit the web. Mostly because he wouldn't be out of place in Transformers: Age of Extinction. Regardless of what the suit is like we can be sure that Oscar winner Paul Giamatti will make the most of his time as Aleksei Sytsevich (The reason for the red star on his shoulder not needing to be explained... He's Russian, for the stupid)

The Goblin

Green Goblin? Protogoblin? Hob Goblin? Ultimate Goblin? Okay probably not Ultimate, but aside from that your guess is as good as mine when it comes to what rendition of Spidey's arch-enemy we'll end up seeing come May. So far, all we know is that Dane DeHann's Harry Osborne will be the first man to don the... stupid looking pixie hair?

The Teaser Screen

Could this be the biggest reap of hints ever or simply another throw away easter egg by a fanboy editor? Who knows but it does seem to be a tad over detailed to be a red herring. Closer inspection of the screen gives us tabs such as Venom Storage, Dr. Curt Connors, Morbius, The Australia Project, Ravencroft Prison, Electrical Power Plants and most interestingly, The OS Suit Marks 1, 2 and 3. Could this OS suit be the Green Goblin's new, mechanical suit?

Gwen Stacy

Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker, the Green Goblin and a high tower; Historically, not good news for Gwen. With all of Mary Jane Watson's scenes being cut from the film some had speculated that Gwen may live to see another outing with Sony. Unfortunately for Gwen, it looks like Emma Stone will have one less acting gig after 2014.

Take what you will from this editorial, at it's core it is nothing but a fan and his ideas. 2014 promises to be a huge year for comic book movies, kicking off with Captain America: The Winter Solider and closing with the astronomical Guardians of the Galaxy. We've saw 3 of the 4 trailers and there's no outright leader right now, let's just sit back and wait, it will surely be... AMAZING.

I think they may be keeping some glimpse or tiny scene of MJ a secret from us. It would be nice for Gwen to die in this one and get a little bit of MJ shown, just so she isn't just added into the next movie. It would feel a bit weird if she wasn't already established as a part of the universe ahead of time.
NovaCorpsFan - 12/6/2013, 5:18 PM
Times Square ain't the final battle. Electro is still in a hoodie during that scene.

Harry looks a bit like one of those troll dolls.

Nah, it just looks like Eminem made an Instagram and got all selfie obsessed

I think Harry is like a " Proto Goblin" look at his suit, it's not finished. One side has green armor and the other is naked. I think Norman will don the complete goblin suit, Hoodie and all
BenjiWest - 12/6/2013, 5:49 PM

Good article. Great find on Venom Project. Perhaps they'll go the ultimate route and reveal Peter's father wad working on the venom project as a body suit cure, quite possibly for the ailing Norman. When he tried to go public with what the suit could do, Norman had him killed. Looks like Oscorp uses thugs or criminals to test their experiments. So maybe Brock will be the test subject of choice for the venom project.

He's Proto-Goblin definitely for one reason: HE'S NOT GREEN
MBZ1993 - 12/6/2013, 7:16 PM
can someone explain to me of the history of proto goblin?
manymade1 - 12/6/2013, 8:22 PM
I really get a Hobgoblin feeling from that pic with Harry. I guess it's the orangish hair.
Praetorian - 12/6/2013, 9:44 PM
1. That's not Rhino, that's Iron Monger shaped liked a rhino.
2. That's not Green Goblin, how is that hair not dumber than a hood? And he's not green.
3. Just be faithful to the comics you twat, there are a thousand ways you could've done a non-megaton Rhino and a non-troll doll Green Goblin.
4. Electro traveling in pure electricity form is my only need with the interpretation of that character, it makes him seem overly god-like and what happens to his clothes?
How do you transform matter into energy?
Lhornbk - 12/6/2013, 11:52 PM
@Praetorian, *sigh*, another fanboy whining about being faithful to the comics. *sigh*

Yes, there is an outright leader. Capt. America's trailer was much better than DOFP, and a little better than TASM 2. (And if freedomfreelife writes any more articles about the Spidey trailer, I may have to downgrade it. Everytime he writes it makes Spiderman less likable, lol.)
Masterpace - 12/7/2013, 1:23 AM
Time square fight won't be their final showdown...it will be their first...that's clear cause Electro is in his civi clothes on time square...final battle will be in the power plant.
Masterpace - 12/7/2013, 1:29 AM
@Lhornbk I don't agree that Cap had better trailer than TASM2...and there's always one problem with Marvel trailers...those always look cool and then we get IM3 and Thor2.

@Pretorian...You should be happy if the only thing you can bitch about not being faithful to the comics are villains clothes...just go and watch bad ass Mandarin...oh wait we didn't get one yet.

As for the Electro's suit...it's just "plot device" special made suit the same thing that Fantastic Four has for Sue and Johnny.
darthballz - 12/7/2013, 2:13 AM
I don't think Harry is the Goblin. The hair just isn't right and it'd be too obvious. My guess is the Man in the Hat. He sounds all crazy and creepy at the end of TASM, when he's walking down the hall by the Doc-Oc arms and Vulture wings, you can see has long-ish, light-colored hair, and in the shot of someone looking close up at the vials of supposedly performance-enhancing serum it doesn't look to me to be Harry, Giamatti, Peter, Norman, or anyone else i can think of. My conclusion: the Man in the Hat is Hobgoblin and is now outfitted to take out Oscorp's trash.
DEVLIN712 - 12/7/2013, 2:41 AM
MBZ
In the comics he was an OsCorp employee called Nels Vann Adder. In short, he was Norman Osborne's teat dummy for the Goblin serum before Osborne used it on himself.

Proto Goblin wiki
BenjiWest - 12/7/2013, 4:57 AM
Wow the call to be faithful to the comic books seems pointless. As there is so much history, interpretation, and versions to these characters in the comic books alone.

1. One could say their version of Rhino is inspired by the Ultimate version, which had mecha-like enhancements.

2. Would you rather have the Hulk-like Ultimate Green Goblin, who never used a glider. There could be an even worse version of Goblin on screen that would be following the comics.

3. This vision of Electro is very much in line with the Ultimate version of Max Dillon. And neither comic book version of Electro, despite having such great power, would ever be described as god-like because of the character's personality. Neither ever had higher aspiration than petty crime that evolved into a simple grudge only against Spiderman. Often his character accomplishes more when he works for someone or is being used by another character.
FreedomFreeLife - 12/7/2013, 8:21 AM
1. This is not final battle, it´s first Electro Battle.
2. He is not GREEN GOBLIN. He is PROTO-GOBLIN!!!

So, where are spoilers? All the details i knew already...

The only reason I spoiler tagged was because I someone complaining on another tyhread that they didn't know Gwen was gonna die, didn't want to do that to anyone else
BenjiWest - 12/7/2013, 1:15 PM
You know she's going to die?
staypuffed - 12/7/2013, 4:29 PM
I like the idea of Rhino being in a mechanical suit, but God almighty I hate the Goblin design.

@BenjiWest
It's not confirmed but there's an extremely strong chance she will. She's wearing a very similar costume to the comic in which she died, and introducting MJ alludes to another love interest. Plus, Gwen's death is kind of a locked-in comic trope. They'd be missing a HUGE story opportunity if they didn't do it.
DEVLIN712 - 12/7/2013, 5:01 PM
Benji
Nothing's confirmed, but word is going around that Gwen ain't gonna be around much longer. But there's no proof of this, just rumours
MightyZeus - 12/7/2013, 10:44 PM
Interesting theory and great observation from your analysis. I dont mind that The Rhino is mechanical. I think the design of the villains look okay as in there not bad but there not great either.

You forgot to mention that it seems like Aunt May might know about Peter Parker being Spider-man eg." Secrets have a cost but so does the truth".
CreepyBaldGuyLTD - 12/8/2013, 4:49 AM
With the bad guys coming out and seeing doc oc arms and vulture wings on 1min 17secs i think The Amazing Spider Man is setting up the Sinister Six for number 3.
ForeverPowerful - 12/8/2013, 12:44 PM
If they do it right having Harry be the first Goblin could show how sick Norman is. He tests the serum on his own son before thinking of trying it on himself.
MBZ1993 - 12/8/2013, 6:01 PM
thanks @Devlin712

so tht would make sense norman convinces harry to test the serum before norman tries it on himself to become the green goblin
