The Arrow is Greener on the other side

While watching Smallville the other night and feeling like a married person who finally came to the conclusion that their trampy spouse will never stop disappointing me...I began to wonder, "Why not Green Arrow!?"
Okay, I know it's not an original idea, but this is what I think so far. First off, Justin Hartley is a lot better than Tom Welling. Tom did a great job in the begining, but he seems to have outlived his talent. Maybe it's just the writing, but the whole "whoa is me, I have to save the world blah blah blah" makes me wanna snack on some prozac. I know this season was supposed to be dark, but honestly, Clark wimpered more than Cloey has done in like, the past four season combined. The show has outgrown itself, and their stubborn refusal to let it turn into "Superman: The Series" is only hurting it. I KNOW I KNOW...it would interfeare with the (non-existant) movie property, but screw it. There hasn't been hide or hare of a Super-Movie in three years! A sequel should already be out this summer by Super Hero Movie standards!! And the whole cast will do okay on other ventures, but that cow needs to be sent out to pasture. But I digress. The point is that Smallville is on a downhill trajectory that I don't see it being able to escape from. MAYBE if they stop plans for next season and instead do a mini-series. But I'm not feeling it anymore.

But this has a lot to do with Green Arrow actually. You see, all those little super-moves that are sparingly sprinkled throughout each episode cost money. And WB don't wanna spend the cabbage on the kid's show. Green Arrow on the other hand, is more frugal-friendly. With Ollie's martial arts, and no-special-effects-needed-crossbow...the budget would be MUCH smaller. You could even do weekly teamups, though that would cost more money. But think about it, more action, changing scenery, and the fact that Green Arrow is much cooler than Pre-Supes Clark. Green Arrow is edgier Hartley seems to enjoy the role.

I know my idea is not original by any means, but I CAN'T understand why it hasn't been done. It's getting ridiculous on Smallville. I mean you just had f$#cking Doomsday fight Clark Kent!! And Clarky Poo beat him without landing a single blow!!

And another reason I think this would work is because of uber-popular show that set the bar for tv-series martial arts: Alias. I could see Green Arrow workin in the context. I can't take all this dissappointment from Metropolis...I mean...Smallville anymore. Let's finally give Green Arrow his own spotlight!!

FIRST I think that bringing other superhero on the show is cool like when they brought on Zatana and others. But from what I hear Smallville is getting small. Why dont they branch out. Grow in character or something? Let him fly! Be Free!!

A green arrow show would be pretty cool of ya ask me. The only thing I would change from smallville is that oliver is a super liberal in the books, to the point where he gets into fights with other members of the league because of his political beliefs. they dont get into the oliver queen character in smallville. i think they would have to really get into his character to pull off a show, other wise its just a guy with a bow
hey i also had a great idea
nick cage for green arrow

i would watch a green arrow show, as darthstern said, if they explore oliver's character it could be good watch. As for nick cage - green arrow, sorry dude you know the rules, one character per actor.

Supermike, I never acknowledge anything you say, normally, but this time, I think you stuck your own foot in your mouth... especially with all the bitching you do about Heath Ledger's Joker.

Dude I would totally watch a Green Arrow show. I think that it would kick a lot of a$$.

Hartley killed the aquaman spin off. I love him as olver, but I don't think he has the leadership it would take to do a weekly series, bringing in others to play off of him.

What not my fault his Joker suck

Green Arrow would be cool. I'd really like them to have him start his own League/Titans group in the series. That way he would be more of the wiser tactical leader and the $$$ of course.

I still like Smallville, but I'm all for a Green Arrow spin off. Its cool to finally see the charater done live action.

Right on, bro! Smallville hasn't been good for a while, and this last season finale pretty much redefined the word atrocious!

I'd like to see a Green Arrow series, but I think the reason it hasn't happened is because the CW doesn't think it would be a success. Can't say I can blame them. As much as I would personally like it, I don't think it would last a whole season.

First of all SMALLVILLE is the $H!T!!! If you're going to comment on the show comment on the show as a whole not just based on one season you didn't agree with!

Second, if there was a Smallville spin off I couldn't think of a better character than Oliver Queen. His tell it like is it persona is what makes him a character that alot of people could relate to.

I would hate to see Smallville go but if it did, i'd definetely watch "Green Arrow: The Oliver Queen Chronicles" before I tune in to watch a series based on Robin the boy wonder BEFORE he's the boy wonder!!!!

WTF was that about?
KryptonianRage - 5/27/2009, 6:10 PM
@Kryptonian, very well: based on the PAST FEW SEASONS OF SMALLVILLE...I think the quality of the story has fallen so far it isn't even funny. It has amazing potential, but lacks the finances to realize that potential, so you have these events that are horrifically disappointing! It's like watching "Pearl Harbor" for the first time, over and over. While initially the show was awesome, a lot of that had to do with the Clark/Lex dynamic. But they really just squeezed it dry, and now Clark is like that jock that graduated from high school two years ago but keeps hanging around high school parties cause he doesn't fit in at college. Plus, he's more angst ridden than Spider-Man. It's getting ridiculous! You either poop, or get off the pot, so they should either turn it into a movie franchise, or send it out gracefully, with Clark in Cape!

Tell me about it, the writers just keep dragging Smallville out, end it already!
I love the show, but the WB should figure this one out, when die hard fans of a show start bitching about it, it's time to pull the plug.
A Green Arrow spin-off would be great though, and they could still shoot it in BC, just choose a different location from downtown Vancouver, New Westminster perhaps (no, that looks more like Gotham)
Anyway, I think they should just put Smallville to pasture, because at this point it's headed towards the glue factory.
