Luke Cage (born Carl Lucas and also called Power Man) is a fictional character, a superhero appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Archie Goodwin and artist John Romita, Sr., he first appeared in Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #1 (June 1972). He obtained his powers in an accident that left him with near impervious skin and superhuman strength.

dmb1511: Ahh, Power-man/Luke Cage. This guy is the reason I got into comics just because he has no onscreen adaption whatsoever. I simply don’t understand why he doesn’t. This character has it all, a possible origin, anticipation, an actor pending approval and amazing Potential. The character captivated my attention every since obtaining his first issue several years ago. Along with his partnership with Danny Rand (Iron-Fist) I have always wanted more for this character. Power-Man is the one that everyone can relate to: a Hero for Hire.

bigshow2312: The very first comics I bought of Luke was the 1992 Cage comics. After the first 2 editions I was blown away by this character’s potential, regardless of my findings that he was originally created stereotypically… Sweet Christmas! With a tag line neither here nor there- it stuck; however, it’s possible that Cage is the Shaft on steroids of comics. Even though he isn’t totally gifted upstairs, he is extraordinarily street smart for he doesn’t work for free… well… sometimes. In essence, Cage represents hope of a better future for Black Americans trapped in areas of pandemonium.

Wow I was expecting my man Luke Cage up a little higher but none the less good article. I already know the number one spot is going to The Black Panther. I mean he is the premier black superhero, he is an intelligent and excellent tactician, he is a king, and he is banging Storm.

@TonyChu: I don't exactly follow Black Panther, but is he even eligible. Black History month is also called African American History month, and based on my understanding, Black Panther is not American.

These guys can do whatever they want with their list, but it is "African American History Month". It's black history in America.
