Edward Norton Wants The Avengers To Take on The Hulk!

In an interview with MTV, Edward Norton has revealed that he would like to see The Hulk as the villain in The Avengers!
This from MTV's Splash Page:

"In the comics, there was always a tension between the rest of the superhero community and he was always this problem... They treated him as this problem," said Norton"

Talking to MTV, Norton said he could definitely see the Hulk character becoming something that the rest of Marvel's superheroes joined forces to battle. After all, Hulk's never been shy about telling the world he's "the strongest there is."

"I think that's a fun way to go with it," said Norton.

Norton captured the angst that a banner should be experiencing, while still giving the character a sense of humor. I think making Banner anyone else but Norton in future incarnation of the character (for the foreseeable future at least) would be a bad move.

That said, the avengers vs. the hulk would be a great way to go with it!

Awesome! Hopefully he knows something we don't. Has to be Hulk as the first battle..then have Banner get some control and the whole team goes up against...who? My vote is Ultron but its unlikely.

It should follow the comic with Loki being the "Villian." However, Loki should use the Hulk as a weapon against Midgard, Thor and the other Avengers.

spideysweb: ChThanks! Its the same here in the UK - I've posted doozens of these videos and i cant see them either! I dont get why MTV makes it so that they can only be viewed in the US!?!

After reading this, Im hoping that we'll see a Loki manipulated Hulk face The Avengers then a team up with the Hulk and Avengers taking down Loki (just like the final fight in both the Ultimates 2 and the classic Avengers comic book!)

Love Norton and him fighting the Avengers would be dope, just like in the Ultimate's when he was after Betty talking about screwing her and the avengers had to save her and fight the hulk. But like that I think the hulk should come over for the team up to fight the real villain.

Norton is such a good actor it would be a shame not to bring him into it. I mean, why not??? unless hes asking for to much money, but with Norton I would find that Hard to believe especially since its an Avengers film.

Yeah we all want to see Hulk vs the Avengers but I hope thats not the plot of the first movie. Maybe at the start they can have a altercation with the Hulk vs. Iron Man and S.H.E.I.L.D, but at some point the Hulk has to join the group. I want Loki as the main villain and the Wrecker or the Wrecking crew as the muscle. Yeah Loki and the Wrecking Crew vs. the Avengers! Save the real Hulk battle for Avengers 2 once they and Banner realize that he'll never truly be able to control the Hulk and he's just too dangerous to be on the team.

LEEE - Loki was the 'first' enemy the Avengers faced in the comic books. He tried to manipulate the Hulk into squaring off against Thor. He's the reason WHY the Avengers formed in the first place!

I know Loki was the first villain they faced, but for the movie i kinda want to see a villain that has not been in any of the solo movies. I mean, its a given that Thor is gonna layeth the smacketh down on Loki at the end of his movie, so it would be better to have a new threat for the whole team to face..maybe Loki too in the background, but with so many characters already involved, this movie is gonna have to be 3 hours long to do em all justice. Here's hoping!

I hope that The Avengers movie is at least 2 - 2 and a half hours long! Otherwise I cant see how they can do the characters justice!

Im not sure who, apart from the Hulk, i would like to see be the main Avengers villain! They can easily have The Avengers face the Hulk without Loki's intervention (which they've already sort of set up at the end of the Incredible Hulk) They'd need to use Pym to introduce Ultron (which unfortunately seems unlikely right now as theres been no mention of him or Wasp) and other characters like Kang would probably take too much tim to introduce...

We need a poll CBM! Who should be the villain in The Avengers? :)

@Josh - Great find...best news all month! Yeah, Hulk as a villain would be good...as long as that's not it. I like how they did it in the animated Ultimate Avengers where the Hulk helped defeat who you THOUGHT was the main villain, and then ended up just being too angry to calm down, and the team has to turn around and take down one of their own. Hey, if Favreau ends up doing this one too, I'm sure it'll be great!

I think with Black Widow in Iron Man- we get an introduction of Hawkeye early on in the Avengers movie. I want to see Hawkeye and Black widow take on Iron Man, and then they later on join the Avengers.

Norton won't be in Iron man 2. But They said somewhere that he has a contract to be in an Avenger movie if it ever got rollin.

There was a "hint" of The Leader in The Incredible Hulk. Any chance they would bring him into battle The Avengers. I just don't see another Hulk movie anytime soon, and I could see the connection between Hulk and The Avengers through The Leader.

Def keep Ed Norton as Hulk, I don't think there's any question about it. I think it would be pretty cool as people have said earlier if he was a villian at first and then helped out and turned the tide for the Avengers. Very cool though, can't wait.

NOOO! Stick to the comics!!!! Hulk as the villain is stupid I'm not saying dont have the Avengers fight the Hulk but don't make him the main villain whatever you do. I say have the Avengers hunt him down, fight him, capture him, realise they need his help to fend off a bigger threat and they all fight together. If you make Hulk a villain you take away that misunderstood hero angle the Hulk has, he just becomes a mindless brute...the Hulk is so much more than that. They should just use Loki or Ultron.

The villains should be the Masters of Evil! I don't see anything wrong with following the basic outline of the original comics, minus the Sub-Mariner.

Loki instigates, the Hulk is manipulated, Hulk joins, then leaves due to a misunderstanding, and the team learns that they are more powerful and effective fighting together as a unit!

Pym and the Wasp are essential!

According to The Avengers (on facebook) Loki and Hulk will be vs Ironman, Black Widow, War Machine, Capt. America, and Thor w/ support from Nick Fury and Gen. Ross.

it would be silly to make Hulk into a mindless villain after spending the WHOLE HULK MOVIE trying to show that he can actually feel. Plus it would make the Tony Stark cameo at the end kinda pointless.

of course they're going to fight the hulk in the avengers. its the best way to go. i think it should just be the hulk, possibly loki pulling his strings like in he comics. but it doesn't need loki either, just the hulk going on a rampage

but in IH movie Banner and Betty where talking in the truck about trying to control the HUlk and Banner just wanted it gone. Hulk fought Abomination and saw that he could focus him. At the end when Banner was in B. C. it looked like he was uping his heart rate to bring the hulk out only to learn how to contol him. so my piont being if banner can learn to control the hulk why would he fight the avengers?

It's nice to know that Norton is taking an interest with The Hulk, especially after reading all the articles about him and the studios having a fall out of some sort. I hope the next interview of Norton would be about another Hulk movie with him!

@joshw24. Awesome job finding this info man!! I love Norton and hope he continues to stay involved in Marvel. He is the best Bruce Banner since Bill Bixby. Hulk vs Avengers will hopefully be more like the animated Ultimate Avengers when Hulk destroys the aliens helping the Avengers and then turns on them showing them who is "strongest there is"..It is rumored that Abomination may also appear in the Avengers movie. Very interesing to see what more lies ahead.

I think that having the Hulk as the villain in the first Avengers film is a fantastic idea! He should be under Loki's influence, just as he was in the first issue of the comic. This brings all of the recent and upcoming Marvel movies together in a way that makes sense. I'm still holding out hope that things are set up for Ultron in the second film.

It would be a great idea if Loki manipulates Hulk to fight Thor and the Avengers. But Loki would underestimate Hulk if he thinks he can controle him. So in the end Loki must find a greater thread than Hulk. Like a "plan B"...
