John Barrowman Wins MTV's Captain America Casting Poll!

Unbelievably, the 'Torchwood' star has won MTV's casting poll of who should play the star spangled Avenger.
MTV's Splash Page recently held a poll for whom the users could decide who should play Captain America. As most of you probably know, ComicBookMovie held their very own poll a little while ago in which Jensen Ackles reigned supreme winning with a large majority. However, MTV's poll has a very different set of results to those this site had.

MTV Poll Results:

John Barrowman: 36%
Alexander Skarsgard: 28%
Jensen Ackles: 10%
Jon Hamm: 8%
Channing Tatum: 3%
John Cena: 2%
Matthew McConaughey: 2%
Will Smith: 2%
Tyrese Gibson: 0%
Other: 8%

The "other" category was full of other suggestions, too. Receiving quite a few write-in votes were "The Dark Knight" actor Aaron Eckhart, "General Hospital" actor Steve Burton, and "Fringe" actor (and soon, "Human Target" star) Mark Valley. "Star Trek" actor Chris Pine, "Castle" actor Nathan Fillion, and "Fight Club" actor Brad Pitt also received a significant chunk of write-in votes.

So, what do you think about the results of this poll? Is this a decent choice for Captain America or perhaps the worst you've ever heard?
6 Yes
26 No

Who the hell is John Barrowman?
supermarioworldE - 9/28/2009, 4:48 PM
Like I said before Josh, they might as well have phrased the question:

"Which one of these dudes do you prepubescent bitches want to see shirtless in a superhero movie?"
MultiPurposePoni - 9/28/2009, 4:49 PM
Holy shit, now this is what a pussy looks like.
spideysweb - 9/28/2009, 4:50 PM
That dude is a total pansy. I still think Ryan Hurst should be Cap. Hell! Maybe even Cole Hauser.
aztony1975 - 9/28/2009, 4:52 PM
1. Scottish
2. Swedish
3. American

Well, that decides it......Jensen Ackles for CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!
Talontd - 9/28/2009, 4:59 PM
Just listen to some of the sh*t posts on MTV regarding the vote:

"purewitz: I voted for Stephen Colbert, because he is the living embodiment of Captain America.

KnightofShadows: I vote Karl Urban to play Captain America. He looked great as Eomer in LOTR, so why not Cap?

Final Taxi: I'm voting Anthony Michael Hall. He was the little guy in the Breakfast Club and we see he has pumped up now in The Dead Zone. Plus I really want to see The Avengers with Robert Downey Jr. and Anthony Michael Hall. The late John Hughes would be proud."

Sounds like a bunch of winners to me
MultiPurposePoni - 9/28/2009, 5:12 PM
OK this must be some kind of joke. I think John Barrowman is brilliant and I think he rocks in Doctor Who & Torchwood but as Cap, no way!
dancingmonkey08 - 9/28/2009, 5:16 PM
JACK HARKNESS FROM TORCHWOOD..THE GAY IMMORTAL..ORIGINALLY APPEARING ON DOCTOR WHO, ON AN ADVENTURE WITH THE DOCTOR HIS COMPANION ROSE TAKES ON THE POWER OF THE TARDIS AND BRINGS BACK TO LIFE JACK, THING IS IT MADE HIM IMMORTAL, NEVER BEING ABLE TO DIE. DID I GET THAT RIGHT?
GUNSMITH - 9/28/2009, 5:17 PM
I happen to like Torchwood...but still dont think he would be a good Captian America.
If we are going to make Hughes proud why not have Molly Ringwald play Ms Marvel?? hehe
KUSlacker - 9/28/2009, 5:21 PM
PLEASE!!

@ Multi: that's horrible. Where did you read that shit?
DarthMulder - 9/28/2009, 5:24 PM
i cant see him as cap. he doesn't look the part. except a little bit in the face. but otherwise i would nix this guy off the list.
i honestly think an american should portray cap.
but that might just be me.
barrowman apparently can do an authentic american accent (like we actualy have one) because he moved to illinois at age eight.
i have never heard of him before today although i have read of torchwood.
personally, i wouldn't go for an mtv poll because if you didn't notice, tyrese gibson, matthew mcconaughy, and will smith are also on the list.
great actors all, but i am estatic that they were in the bottom three.
Wadey09 - 9/28/2009, 5:24 PM
I can already picture Lee's first comment on this article:

"He'd be 10 TIMES as good as TACKLES!"

Along with complaints about Lewis and Worthington not being in the poll.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/28/2009, 5:25 PM
HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Urban8er - 9/28/2009, 5:26 PM
John Barrowman= NO F'N WAY!!!! i like john cena for the role better! and he is a doushe! but give him a look! he could fill the part, with acting lessons!
cincyboy - 9/28/2009, 5:29 PM
@Darth Those comments are right off of MTV's poll page. Goes to show the main difference between comic fans and the general audience. We base our choices off of specific qualities that would embody the character on screen, they apparently base their choices off of political preference, John Hughes and the latest fads. Guess which side the studios would most likely side with?

@KUSlacker Because Molly Ringwald was already cast as Sharon Carter Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. ;)
MultiPurposePoni - 9/28/2009, 5:30 PM
Lol!!! Hey id take him over ACKLES!! : D

SAM WORTHINGTON baby!!!!!!!!!!! ; )

JASON LEWIS!!!

CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!
LEEE777 - 9/28/2009, 5:36 PM
i bet most of them probally don't know who captain america is
Urban8er - 9/28/2009, 5:36 PM
like the pic multi ;) not too sure about this lol
lc - 9/28/2009, 5:37 PM
No one who is a Cap fan would ever think he would be a good choice. Good god, this poll is laughable at best.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/28/2009, 5:38 PM
its MTV its not to be taken seriously
Torque - 9/28/2009, 5:39 PM
@LEEE Love your enthusiasm dude! Haha don't let these guys bring down ;)

@lc would that be the grenade biting pic, or the banana hammock one from my blog?
MultiPurposePoni - 9/28/2009, 5:39 PM
TYLER @ BWAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHHA!!! : D

JENSEN TACKLES for HAWKEYE!!!!

joshYour Article sounds like you want to make love to ackles, cant you just keep him out of CAP talk!!!

LMFAO!

MULTI @ Never do dude lol, im not part of the TACKLES -LOVE-GANG-BANG! ; D

Crap gotta go, BROADBANDS [frick]ed arghhhhh!!
LEEE777 - 9/28/2009, 5:43 PM
"As most of you probably know, ComicBookMovie held their very own poll a little while ago in which Jensen Ackles reigned supreme winning with a fairly large majority."
That sounds like he wants to make love to ackles?...Lee did you take your Meds today?
RedSkullGeezer - 9/28/2009, 5:46 PM
I agree, I think Sam Worthington or Gerard Butler or that type of physical actor could do it. Someone who isn't afraid to go to the gym and get in great shape for it. However, if they are looking for a pretty boy, say for instance, Paul Walker type this project may be doomed. I hope they make Cap believeable on screen. If I can't look at the person and say yeah, he could do this or that, then I won't believe in that character. Iron man is a great example, I loved RDJ's performance, it was raw and believeable, which is why it was a success.
Timerider84 - 9/28/2009, 5:46 PM
TYLER: Wow, you were almost completely right about LEE's comment, lol! (though he is pretty predictable when it comes to "tAckles"!)

MULTI: The poll seems to be a bit of a farce especially when comapared to the far more sensible poll that CBM conducted a little while ago! The odd thing is that this pole was actually conducted on Splash Page wihich is supposed to be for comic book fans!

In my opinion, John Barrowman would be one of the worst possible choices for Captain America! He's ok in Torchwood but he's an incredibly cheesy actor and his real American accent actually sounds fake!
JoshW - 9/28/2009, 5:48 PM
ugh... That Colbert crack made hurl a little bit in my mouth.

DarthMulder - 9/28/2009, 5:48 PM
The fact that anyone even suggested Will Smith is laughable. That is absolutely stupid.
Pym - 9/28/2009, 5:50 PM
P.S. Ackles = HAWKEYE!!

WORTHINGTON or LEWIS only REAL choices for CAP A!!!

(Maybe VALLEY).

; D

Lol @ JOSH!! ; D
LEEE777 - 9/28/2009, 5:51 PM
ACKLES ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!
Urban8er - 9/28/2009, 5:53 PM
EVEN WILL SMITH WAS LIKE NO WAY.....MARK VALLEY IS WHO ID PIC
GUNSMITH - 9/28/2009, 5:54 PM
Wow, judging by his comment it looks like poor little LEE still cant get over the fact his crappy casting choices for Cap lost!

crying_baby

It really is amazing how in LEE's eyes, everyone who supports Ackles for Cap wants to have sex with him...looks like LEE's needs to dump his girlfrien and find a boyfriend! Dont they say that someone who's always calling other people gay is normally hiding something..? ;)
JoshW - 9/28/2009, 5:54 PM
You may not be part of the Ackles team Lee, but wasn't it you who also did several articles on why Jason get-a-cLewis was born to be Cap? Those were the definitions of wanting to make love to an actor!

Oh I forgot. That comment probably won't matter to you since you dumped Lewis for Whispery Worthington.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/28/2009, 5:55 PM
the hell with mtv
if mtv has anything to do
with the cap movie
IMA SHOOT MYSELF
F*** MTV AND ALL THEIR CRAP
HOWLER16 - 9/28/2009, 5:56 PM
@josh Why was the MTV poll a farce? Why was ours more sensible? Because it was made for and by comic fans? That and two bucks will get you a bus ticket. We all know to take what MTV says with a grain of salt, but they are a media force that gets alot of attention. You've got to remember dude, these are the "mainstream audience" types the studios are going to pay attention to. They already know that us, as fans, will watch the film in theaters so there is little need to aim decisions like this towards us. Who made W:O a financially successful film. . just the fans? Of course not. We need to pay attention to this kind of media attention towards our favorite comic properties because it may, unfortunately, foreshadow a bit of reality.

I understand where you're coming from, bro. We, as fans, are compelled make our source-material based opinions known to the world. But in the business of making movies, our opinions fall on deaf ears. . . unless Jon Favreau is directing ;)
MultiPurposePoni - 9/28/2009, 5:57 PM
I hate to tell those who votes in both poles but both polls are wrong. First off, why should anything that is done on MTV be taken seriously. Second, this is the description of CA on Marvels web site

Height
6'2"

Weight
220 lbs

Eyes
Blue

Hair
Blond

Sorry, but who on either of those lists firt that bill? It sure isnt who won both polls I can tell u that!

brianj22 - 9/28/2009, 5:58 PM
I hope to God no one in marvel is listening to this poll
InSpace - 9/28/2009, 5:59 PM
lol @ Josh24
DarthMulder - 9/28/2009, 6:00 PM
MULTI: When CBM did a poll they actually used more sensible choices rathr than throwing any random name in the hat as MTV seem to have done! I mean Tyrese Gibson!?!
JoshW - 9/28/2009, 6:07 PM
I agree with Howler, Inspace and Brianj22

Multipurposeponi, a foreshadow of reality? I just have to ask who YOU think they will pick. And if you say DiCraprio I will hurl again, I know it lol

Let's all just keep our fingers crossed that the better wisdom prevails in this case, and none of those retarded MTV picks are even considered.

Here's how I look at it: If you want to make a movie about a comic book character you need to hire and actor that looks like that character. It doesn't take a fanboy to reason that one out.
DarthMulder - 9/28/2009, 6:10 PM
most. pathetic. pole results. EVER!!
ThePrince - 9/28/2009, 6:14 PM
@josh Well the studio already offered the role to Will Smith at one time, is Tyrese so unbelievable? Since, thankfully, he didn't get any votes I'm not worried about him being cast. But what would you say if he had won with a 48% rating? Don't you think it would have gotten the studio's attention?

@Darth I know that the studio will not pick Leo. I also have a feeling they will not pick Ackles, Worthington or Barrowman. they will, most likely, go with an unknown.

That being said, you'd better believe that the studios involved are going to listen to what the mainstream audience wants! Like I said before, unless JFav is directly attached, comic fan opinions are rarely listened to.
MultiPurposePoni - 9/28/2009, 6:19 PM
MULTI: I might be wrong but i dont think Will Smith was ever officially offered the role was he? You make a good point about the pole - I hope then that the studio took notice of Ackles' win on this site!
JoshW - 9/28/2009, 6:47 PM
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I like this guy, but I dont want a gay British guy to play the role of the great Captain American.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yohon Kalic - 9/28/2009, 6:52 PM
@josh I did some research into it and I'm glad to say I was wrong about Big Willie. Marvel never offered him the role, and he also commented that he wouldn't have taken it. It's hard to keep up with the rumor mill these days ;) And I'm pretty sure someone at Marvel has noticed that Ackles won that pole, so you can sleep well tonight lol
MultiPurposePoni - 9/28/2009, 6:53 PM
john cena is the only guy that can do it. sure he needs acting coaching. but physically. he is the only guy that matches the look.
grif - 9/28/2009, 6:53 PM
EPIC FAIL OF THE DAY THIS GUY IS NOT CAP (John Barrowman)
Swiftsword777 - 9/28/2009, 6:55 PM
i like john barrowman i think he was great on dr.who and is good on torchwood but...CAPT AMERICA HAS TO BE PLAYED BY AN AMERICAN BARROWMAN IS ENGLISH. its like if they cast an american as james bond it just cant happen.
andrew trotta - 9/28/2009, 7:00 PM
@Swift I thought you were petitioning for me to play Cap?!? We've got alot of ground to cover, Get to work!
MultiPurposePoni - 9/28/2009, 7:05 PM
Ha ha ha ha ha WTF is Will Smith doing on the poll? Did people forget he is black?( no offense) or were they hoping for the reverse RDJ from Tropic Thunder... "he's a black dude trying to play a white dude!"
Rokrad - 9/28/2009, 7:10 PM

WTF Does MTV know about Captain America!?!?!?

This is the same people who pulled the Eminem, and Kanye stunt for more ratings. lol. So that says that they know a lot about CAP....GTFOH!!!!

Guys don't listen to MTV. The people who really watch it are pre-teen chicks.

MTV.....You've been UNMASKED!
Unmasked - 9/28/2009, 7:52 PM
sweet vid luffycapri...i got pissed at the end when they never actually concluded who would win. not that i need them to tell me, superman would so pwn goku's black to blonde haired ass ;)
Duhdaduh - 9/28/2009, 8:05 PM
Brad F*cking Pitt. It makes WAY more sense then some second rate actor. They need an A-lister, it is CAP. He's got charisma
Nate Grey - 9/28/2009, 8:10 PM
I have nothing against any Aussie or Brit actor when I say this, but on pure principal Cap should be played by an American. I say the same for Union Jack or Captain Britain needing to be played by a Brit. Its a character that embodies the country of origin. My favorite choice has always been Mark Valley, same as GUNSMITH has said before.

Why him? He is a real life West Point grad, Vet of the first Gulf War, mature, and the guy looks like Cap to a tee, and is a pretty good actor.

Why not him? He's 45, too old to be the 4F recruit who volunteered for service in WWII and became Captain America. The story is going to require a younger actor pure and simple.

Who should that actor be? Tough question. It may be someone we have never seen or heard of. I just want someone who will do us proud and not be a nut job in their personal life. I want whoever becomes Cap to be the type of man Chris Reeves was, he was such an altruistic man that people always thought of him as Superman on and off the screen... I want someone like that for Cap.

I would even love if the person to play him is former military because that just fits you know. It honors the men in uniform in an odd way, because Cap was a man that literally wanted to be a soldier and to serve his country more than anything, he risked his life to undergo the process to even become a super soldier just to do this. Maybe that’s a silly requirement I have, but I really think that, so sue me.

In the end I just hope Marvel sees a similar requirement when they cast Cap. Make it someone we can be proud of, not some silly tween star picked out by kids on MTV who’s idea of a role model comes down to who looks best in eyeliner.

nerosday - 9/28/2009, 8:14 PM
COME ON EVERYBODY!!! Do we REALLY want a pretty boy as cap? Would it be better to have a popular and handsome actor than a talented, believable actor who could draw an audience in to the story? Think about it.
alexsummers - 9/28/2009, 8:33 PM

Oh snap... finally an idea that makes sense. Multi for Cap! lol At least he's a real soldier!

Nero, Valley sounds perfect if not for the age
DarthMulder - 9/28/2009, 9:03 PM
@nerosday I like that you mentioned the studio should take a look at military veterans for the role of Cap. Here's my pick:

Tavis Bohlinger
Photobucket

Height: 5' 11" Weight: 200 lbs Hair: Blonde Eyes: Hazel

Graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis)

And here's what he would look like in an Army uniform:

That's great but um...WHO THE [frick] IS THIS GUY?!
Joker1Zero - 9/28/2009, 9:12 PM
@Gunsmith. Capt Jack was born immortal, at least thats the story they use in Torchwood. I remember that Dr.Who with the Tardis and Rose, but I think they ignore that one in Torchwood.
Number21 - 9/28/2009, 9:16 PM
ahahaha.. whoever John Barrowman is.. he (his family and friends) must of voted a lot of times. i could see people voting for him.. if they wanted a gay captain america.

Matthew McConaughey, Will Smith.. um, ugh.. c'mon..
InFamouslyCool - 9/28/2009, 9:18 PM
I for one like the idea of John Barrowman as Cap. So he's gay - BIG DEAL! He can act (stage & screen) and he DOES have the look (anyone ever heard of hair dye?). As a matter of fact, he WAS a blond in 'The Producers'...

...HYSTERICAL! First a singing Nazi, and then Captain America? Can you say 'IRONY'?
loganoneil - 9/28/2009, 9:23 PM
@loganoneil Well maybe he SHOULD play Cap. . the first thing he'll do on set is shoot himself
MultiPurposePoni - 9/28/2009, 9:27 PM
Irony is good...THAT irony is not.
nerosday - 9/28/2009, 9:28 PM
NO WAY!

Justin Hartley is Perfect for Cap ( age, attitude, looks....). If I was going for physique, I 'd vote Cena( he's decent as a actor...not great ....but decent)

kevberg - 9/28/2009, 9:28 PM
I don't think we've see Cap yet. I have a feeling Marvel is going to surprise us with the casting, but I don't think it is anyone we've mentioned or seen as of yet. I don't envy them, they are basicly casting Marvel's moral center. It has to be a man's man and someone you can believe is truly a supersoldier. I just hope they really give it some thought and come up with a good Captain America.
nerosday - 9/28/2009, 9:48 PM
Justin Hartley for Young Steve.

Mark Valley for Adult Steve.

It's really the best option considering how much they resemble each other.

MovieTheaterLad - 9/28/2009, 9:51 PM
Mutli - I def like your pick better then that pansy that the teeny bobbers picked...

Jensen Ackles i do like too
thegreek - 9/28/2009, 9:52 PM
WOW! Why have I never heard of Mark Valley?? He looks perfect, he just screams, " I am Captain America!". What has he been in, and can he act?
thwhtGuardian - 9/28/2009, 9:59 PM
I hope so too Nerosday. I hope this doesn't just add to the confusion and make the uncertainty even worse, but let's not forget that it was MARVEL who said for years that it's Leonardo DiCaprio they wanted.

Just this time friends I am really just not too sure we can even trust Marvel to do the right thing. I do agree with Multi. They probably will go with an unknown. But just stop and think that if that little dork had decided he wanted the part, it WOULD have been his. Can you imagine that eternally pubescent voice calling orders to THOR?!? lol PHAIL!!
It would have been a truly monumental failure in terms of casting. The biggest ever.

LOL never mind them finding the perfect guy.. Let's just hope they don't [frick] up as badly as THAT!
DarthMulder - 9/28/2009, 10:03 PM
@thwhtknight Valley is starring in the series Human Target. He was also in Fringe, Boston Legal and ER among many other shows.

Do you know those actors like Matt Damon and Leo DiCaprio, that always look young? Well, Vally ain't one of them my friend. Too bad, he would've pulled off a great Cap ten years ago. CGI could fix that with no problem, but I doubt they will spend a quarter of the budget on a computerized face lift.
MultiPurposePoni - 9/28/2009, 10:05 PM
greek @ Teeny poppers picked jensen Tackles WTF you on about?????

: D

Only real choice is SAM WORTHINGTON or JASON LEWIS!!!

; )

An where the heck did MOVIELAD come from lol??

And deff NO to JUSTIN HARTLEY as CAP!!! HELL NO, i like him as TV's GREEN ARROW thats it! ; D
LEEE777 - 9/28/2009, 10:14 PM
In an odd way I don't want the actor who plays Cap to be overly political, openly leaning left like Leo or right like a few other actors. It would just feel like either side could point and say "look Cap thinks its a good idea." Cap should just represent America as a whole, he should make us all proud.
nerosday - 9/28/2009, 10:16 PM
John Barrowman is actually a very good actor and could fill the role nicely. All you people that are saying that he sucks probably haven't even seen him in anything. And plus who cares if he is gay. Kevin Spacey might be gay and he's one of the best actors of our time. Cary Grant was bisexual and is one of the best actors of all time. Plus for those who are so worried about the exact height and weight chill out....he needs to be built but who cares how big he is. I'd rather have someone who can act. If you actually think someone like John Cena could play the role then you must not care about the integrity of the film.

P.S. I do like the choice of Mark Valley though
starsofwar - 9/28/2009, 10:17 PM
@thwhtknight

He starred in a Western movie called Jericho,
is a recurring character on Fringe,
was on ER for several years,
starred in the action comedy show Keen Eddie,
was a recurring character on Boston Legal for several years,
AAAAAAAAAAND will be the star of the Human Target TV show.

But what gives him such a huge advantage is the fact that he's actually got quite alot of real military experience under his belt, including combat and weapons training, and even served in the Gulf War.

And if you STILL aren't convinced, keep his military record in mind when you watch this clip from Human Target. You will be a believer I assure you.

MovieTheaterLad - 9/28/2009, 10:17 PM
Wooohooooo! This totally made me smile. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks he would make a decent Captain America. >:P
I don't know if he would be the "best" choice,in fact I must admit I don't think he is the best choice, but he is definitely one of my top choices.
And although I used to support Sam Worthington, now I'm completely undecided for who would get my final vote. :(
Phoenix9109 - 9/28/2009, 10:18 PM
Lee, Worthington is an Aussie and Lewis can't act. They're both out in my book. I know, I sound funny saying an American needs to be Cap, but I stick with that. Just like I say a real Brit should be Union Jack or Captain Britain.
nerosday - 9/28/2009, 10:19 PM
Phoenix I've got an odd question: Are you from South Carolina? The upstate area maybe?
nerosday - 9/28/2009, 10:21 PM
Nerosday, not necessarily political, but yet a TRUE patriot blood and soul, balls to bones.

Someone that feels that feeling, of being in love with his country and all that it stands for. It fills him with the strength of conviction. That to me is the real Cap. The one most don't see. That's what I want to see in the movie.
DarthMulder - 9/28/2009, 10:28 PM
Good clip TheaterLad. Showcases the badassness of Mr. Valley nicely.

Valley just seems like a MAN, you know. He lacks that delicate pretty boy thing too many younger actors have today. This guy has authority; you listen if he stood up and told you to do something, and has a feeling that he will take no shit. I like that. I want Cap to have that. A man's man. A 1940's style guy.

These kids that voted at MTV don't even know what that is. Men like that were Grandpa and Great Grandpa to them and saddly I don't think enough of them learned a damn thing about him.
nerosday - 9/28/2009, 10:28 PM
Exactly Mulder. I think the man that plays Cap is going to need that feeling. That is partly why I want an American in the role and even a former military man, it just fits.

This guy needs to embody a timecapsule of the go get 'em pride of 1940's America. After all that is his era. It'll make for a nice bit of culture shock between Cap and Ironman too, as Cap still sees only the good we can do; whereas Ironman has seen the bad and it has jaded him alittle about the government and the military, sort of like the effect the 1960's had on that 1940's style Americanism. The two should respect eachother for being men of principal even though those principals are at odds sometimes.
nerosday - 9/28/2009, 10:29 PM
Holyshit movietheaterlad, i deff think your on to somethin there
Cape - 9/28/2009, 10:55 PM
In the end you get a good mix of views for the Avengers.

Nick Furry: the jaded old war horse who has been there seen it, done it, survived it, and [frick]ed it... twice.

Cap: The spirit of America in its prime. Optimism, prideful, determined, conscientious, and a little naive. Wanting to prove himself and save the world.

Ironman: A true craftsman of the military industrial complex that has seen the damage that it can cause and is trying to repent, both for what he was and who is now. A man seeking balance.

Thor: Arrogance and power supreme. Sent as a messenger (If they follow the Ultimates line) and an example of where we have gone wrong and how we must set it right, though overly extreme. Or... the thunder God always ready for a fight and reveling in the honor battle brings; a true Viking.

Banner: A man hounded and untrusting of anything these others represent, he wants peace and to be left alone and to not have himself or his work corrupted by the likes of Ross and Furry, and leery of Stark for his sudden change of heart, but looking up to Cap for his goodness.

nerosday - 9/28/2009, 10:55 PM
Some of you guys are ripping this guy hard calling him a puss, and yet the majority of you want JANSEN ACKLES??? Seriously, WTF???

Macksimus - 9/28/2009, 11:13 PM
In response to nerosday: No, I am not from anywhere in South Carolina. What made you ask that?
And I agree Macksimus, I completely agree.
And because I don't think I made it clear before, I have seen quite a bit oh John Barrowmans acting, and while some of it isn't very good, most of it, especially his recent stuff, has been quite top notch. I think he both looks and can act the part.
But because he's Scottish and very openly gay I doubt he will get the role. Which is unfortunate.
Also, though he is Scottish, he spent most of his childhood growing up in America and has a very convincing American accent. In fact, it's what he speaks with all the time, with the exception being when he's around other Scottish people.
Phoenix9109 - 9/28/2009, 11:26 PM
@ Phoenix: lol, Sorry the reason I ask is that I have a friend from that area who swears he posts on this site but has made it a bit of a game for me to figure out who he is. Your Avatar is right up his alley in terms of humor. So I was just checking.
nerosday - 9/28/2009, 11:29 PM
Ah, alrighty then.
And my avatar is even funnier when you can read what he's saying. I still don't know the context of it though...sad day.
And, in response to someone who posted earlier saying he wouldn't be good because he was too cocky, John Barrowman did not say that he would make a good Captain America, merely that he wanted to play Captain America.
Phoenix9109 - 9/28/2009, 11:35 PM
WOW! mtv had some no name doucher win..... a shock. half of that list is a bad joke, unless you want cap played by an actor nearing 50.... or a wrestler, who we all know rule the acadamy awards each year. steve rogers is young, get a young actor. if the actor isnt blond, like rogers, color his hair. for the love of god dont get a no name for the sake of having a no name. does anyone remember matt salinger? you know 1990's no name cap, that worked out. skarsgard would be cool if cap was as thin as terri hatcher. ackles or damon are the two i couldnt argue, but i would put valley at the top of the list. they better not ratner this movie up.
docholliday5 - 9/28/2009, 11:41 PM
Jensen Ackles is the worst I ever heard.
FateSucks - 9/29/2009, 12:11 AM
Dude... Mark Valley. HE IS CAPTAIN AMERICA. I saw him on Fringe and the first thing that popped into my head was: "Hey! What the [frick] is Steve Rogers doing on Fringe?".

Nuff said. Give this guy the role already.
LexLuthor - 9/29/2009, 12:32 AM
I honestly have no problems with an Australian playing Cap. I still think Sam Worthington is the best choice. Watching the way he fought in Terminator Salvation is what sold me on this. He has this very solid movement and he has the right presence.

Ackles is too pretty for cap. I really could never buy that he was ever in a war. He looks like he'd be afraid to throw the shield on account that it may ruin the clear coat of nail polish he just had done. MAYBE as Hawkeye... but not cap. That'd be as bad as Brandon Routh was as superman.

However casting either of the two on the top of this list would've been like Superman Lives by Tim Burton having gone into full production
DeadWebHead - 9/29/2009, 1:21 AM
I can see it now: cap breaks into song and [frick]s bucky during the end credits!!!!
wards - 9/29/2009, 2:32 AM
Pre pubescent bitches? I'm 34 and I like him! Maybe not the right choice for the role though.
BTW I'm I thinking a few of the people who have posted comments have issues with gays and lesbians? Seems that way, not cool guys.
hannahloupen - 9/29/2009, 2:41 AM
hannahloupen@ i agree......this ones for you...

I subscribe for the joyful and happy articles..lol

As for Barrowman i dont have a problem him being gay as such cus alot of actors out there are gay and play straight roles....but.........i need to know he can at least buch up a bit for the role cus he does everything campy :P
teabag - 9/29/2009, 4:15 AM
I think he could be decent. He's certainly a better choice than many I have heard on here. He is very good in Torchwood. Sure Cap Jack is nothing like Cap but thats why its called acting! He also looks the part. I'm not saying I want to see him as Cap. but there are worse suggestions.

hannahloupen, thats called ignorance, and it rears its head everywhere unfortunately.
RorMachine - 9/29/2009, 6:23 AM
teabag: the gay thing doesnt really bother me but even in the earlier seasons of Torchwood where he wasnt playing an all out gay character his performance is still a little...gay!?! I personally cant se him butching up for the role! Though there are many great gay actors who you woulve never realise were gay based on their perfomances, Barrowman is just a bit too obvious IMO! (man, it was hard wording that without accidently sounding offensive, lol!)
JoshW - 9/29/2009, 7:13 AM
Barrowman would be a great Human Torch. Flame on!!!!! This is the gayest idea I've ever heard. He has bland acting chops. FYI, I love Torchwood and he does a great job portraying a 'B' character.
SirPrize - 9/29/2009, 8:04 AM
he could play the White Queen....or is that Routh!! lol :P

Seriously tho i love the gays with there sinful ways...lol :)
teabag - 9/29/2009, 8:09 AM
NPH for the win!
Kyos - 9/29/2009, 8:09 AM
wow.. maybe I need to go back and reread all these comments because I don't recall any of the objections mentioned as being based on sexual orientation.

What I did see was an objection to Captain A being played by someone that looks and acts like a metrosexual ponce. I don't know if Barrowman would be able to turn that off for the role or not. maybe so
DarthMulder - 9/29/2009, 8:13 AM
Sexual orientation aside, I think Matt Damon is the best suited for the role of Cap. He is American, has proven he can do the action roles like the Bourne series and can also play the true American boy next door style that I feel Cap needs to embody. He has the acting ability and the mainstream pull for one of Marvel's greatest properties.
scribe - 9/29/2009, 8:15 AM
he could play the White Queen....or is that Routh!! lol :P

Seriously tho i love the gays with there sinful ways...lol :)

plagiarism is so gay.

Matt Damon would be a great choice for Cap. He has to hit the gym. Really hard.
SirPrize - 9/29/2009, 8:26 AM
the timing for Damon would be perfect as he would be coming off the back of Bourne 4, so not too much extra gym work :)...also he certainly has the look for Cap.
scribe - 9/29/2009, 8:30 AM
[frick] it i'm going on a limb here and say Dakota Fanning to play Cap
thegreek - 9/29/2009, 8:31 AM
LOL @ teh greek.

Damon isn't my first pick (I actually don't even have a first pick lol) But if he got the role I wouldn't complain. They could do worse.

And yeah like Sirprise said he would have to seriously buff up.

He does sort of have a baby face, but I don't htink of him as looking young really. That's not like Leo, whose acting is great but he always looks like a kid to me
DarthMulder - 9/29/2009, 8:44 AM
If Damon leans down and buffs up he'll loose some of that baby face.
SirPrize - 9/29/2009, 9:50 AM
My vote, out of those, goes to Eckhart. He's got the jaw, the blonde, the height and the acting chops. He's maybe a little older than what they're looking for, but he looks the role and he's a great actor.
Coats - 9/29/2009, 10:43 AM
this proves that you should all leave the casting to the Casting Director - you cannot do it on looks alone.
SoulAllFlush - 9/29/2009, 11:20 AM
I agree with SirPrize and plagiarism is so gay.....but then maybe its just Favortism :P
teabag - 9/29/2009, 11:23 AM
this guy looks like the karate kid after puberty. what a horrible choice. i think aaron eckhart is the best choice. he can pull off the boyscout very well, he doesn't look TOO old to do it, and he's got a "good guy" look to him. i think he's perfect
CorndogBurglar - 9/29/2009, 11:48 AM
who da hell is this guy?
MsKyle08 - 9/29/2009, 12:08 PM
whos this actor?
flames809 - 9/29/2009, 3:13 PM
Kyle / flames - Barrowman is an actor from the UK who's currently starring in a science fiction spin-off series from 'Doctor Who' called 'Torchwood'. He plays the lead character named Captain Jack Harkness. It's broadcast in the States on BBC America.
loganoneil - 9/29/2009, 3:43 PM
k. well you guys gotta think marvel is probly not going to pick any of these guys. but as long as we are all doing our fantasy cast i might as well say that i think channing tatum would probly be the best choice....he just seems to fit for me. anckles i cant see in a big time movie like this and i really dont think marvel will even ask him.
himynameiszach - 9/29/2009, 5:42 PM
Mark Valley For Captain America!!!
chris915 - 9/29/2009, 5:59 PM
We're DOOMED!!!!!!!!!
SupermanReturns2 - 9/29/2009, 7:35 PM
Mark Valley For Cap!!
LexLuthor - 9/29/2009, 11:58 PM
And Torchwood sucks! Bad acting and horrible writing. Although the only good actor in there is John Barrowman.
LexLuthor - 9/30/2009, 12:01 AM
Barrowman has the wrong persona for Cap America!
Mark Valley fit the bill 15 years ago but he is heading
for 50. John Cena is so laughable it makes my head hurt and he is not very attractive not even in a non-pretty boy sort of way!

Jensen Ackles has that old time feeling to him. He is very masculine on Supernatural and in real life his girlfriend is one of the prettiest women on the planet, Danneel Harris.

I'm old and no young kid but I still really like his acting on Supernatural. He's tough yet attractive but not in a Brad Pitt pretty boy sort of way! And a lot of people on here want Brad Pitt but he is ancient and he's the prettiest actor around and has been called that!

Jensen Ackles is pretty damm perfect for Steve Rogers in WWII. The war didn't last a long time so Cap America would only be around his late 20's when he was frozen and accidentally preserved for the future, our present. No way SHOULD a forty year old actor play him in the first movie! What ever happened to logic when choosing an actor for Cap?

Jensen Ackles is a very logical and perfect candidate. Just look at these pics:

CAP AMERICA-ACKLES 1

jensen-cap america 2

CAP AMERICA-JENSEN ACKLES 1

STEVE ROGERS 001
DDD - 9/30/2009, 2:13 AM
If straight guys can play gay men then why not the other way around? I've been watching Torchwood lately and he's a good actor. He has the build for Cap. I wanna see an audition tape then I'll decide how I feel about it.
ComicKnight - 9/30/2009, 3:55 AM
Damn right DDD :)
teabag - 9/30/2009, 6:06 AM
What DDD said
newbee - 9/30/2009, 7:26 AM
DDD: Couldnt have put it better myself! :)
JoshW - 9/30/2009, 10:02 AM
DDD- Well put!!! We got yo' back so preach on ;)
Shaman - 9/30/2009, 11:56 AM
Robert Downey Jr is the SAME age as Mark Valley. They're both 44.
LexLuthor - 9/30/2009, 1:08 PM
@Lex: EXACTLY! See, this is what I'm talking about. It's one thing if you'd like to have Jensen play Cap in the prequel movie. But there's no way you can have him up next to RDJ, who's a whole dozen years his senior, and expect the public to buy it.

At least just say that the S3 slowed down his aging process enough so that you can then have Mark Valley in the Avengers movie.

And even THEN, Justin Hartley is the better choice. He has a much closer resemblance to Mark (Jensen barely has enough chin to it pull off) and plus he's a bit more badass than Jensen, in my opinion.

MovieTheaterLad - 10/1/2009, 2:43 PM
Are you kidding me??
First Twilight wins Best Film over The Dark Knight at the MTV Movie Awards...Now This - [frick] MTV!!

TonyDark - 10/2/2009, 12:21 AM
Mark Valley is the perfect Captain America. He looks just like him. I'm sure they can make him look younger.
mgauge - 10/7/2009, 11:19 AM
Agree with MovieTheaterLad
Jensen Ackles or Sam Worthington would be a great Cap too,
but maybe a bit too young.
Mark Valley looks more experienced, like a real leader

Not Borrowman anyway... He's more like a supermodel than a superhero ;)
