More from Director Jon Favreau About Iron Man 2 and War Machine

The director has spoken with MTV about each character's involvement in the superhero sequel including the now confirmed appearance of War Machine!
Director Jon Favreau has been opening up quite a bit lately about Iron Man 2, which is currently in post-production. He recently told MTV Splash Page:

"We introduce Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and she has a dual identity, so that ends up affecting both the superhero side of things and the personal side of things—as I think all good superhero plotlines do."

"Then we have Don Cheadle. We've upped Rhodey's significance in the film and now I think the cat's out of the bag about War Machine, so he's in that suit. How does he become War Machine? What's his relationship to Iron Man?"

"We also have Mickey Rourke and we have Sam Rockwell, two of the best actors of our time. We really have an embarrassment of riches,"

"Now it's up to me as a director to make it all come together, and to also have a light enough touch so that people who just want to go see a fun summer movie will go. I think Iron Man delivered on that. My kids who don't really know the comics and are young were able to go and enjoy the first one and I want to make sure Iron Man is a movie that won't insult grown-ups' intelligence but will also be appropriate for kids."

I wish Fav could direct every Marvel film that comes out. I have nothing but faith in this man.
ASSASSIN666 - 10/15/2009, 9:39 AM
PETER JACKSON!! ; D

Good stuff @ JOSH!!

Really looking forward to WAR MACHINE!! (But he better not appear in the origin of the AVENGERS lol).
LEEE777 - 10/15/2009, 9:41 AM
Umm...Faveau says a whole lot of nothing here, doesn't he?
Bijous - 10/15/2009, 9:45 AM
I just feel like he keeps shying away from talking about cheadle as war machine. Why is that? In the ET set visit, Cheadle was shown for less than a minute. Why is that? Trying to hide something, Marvel?
supermarioworldE - 10/15/2009, 9:48 AM
Fav's cool, i'm not worried about Iron Man II at all, it will do great. I just want him to tell me there will be a 3rd with Mandarin
StrangemannX09 - 10/15/2009, 9:50 AM
BIJOUS @ Lol, don't they all?? ; D

STRANGMANN @ That would be cool! MANDARIN needs a shot at the movies!

MARIO @ Good eye, i still like the original guy better, but hopefully CHEADLE is good enough for the part.

HA!!! Love that last part: " I want to make sure Iron Man is a movie that won't insult grown-ups' intelligence but will also be appropriate for kids"

Basically he's saying he doesn't want to make a Bay of himself LOL :P
Shaman - 10/15/2009, 10:20 AM
This movie will be awesome.
ecksmanfan - 10/15/2009, 10:29 AM

dellamorte1872 - 10/15/2009, 10:37 AM
I have the strangest feeling that Iron Man 2's last scene will set up Mandarin for the third movie.

Alot of talent in Ironman 2. Hope its even better than the first. (I have no doubts)
MrDCGuy23 - 10/15/2009, 10:56 AM
@Shaman
Amen to that! I like Bay as a director and totally have faith that he can create some of the most epic action sequences in this hemisphere......
But, his idea of "good clean fun" is not appropriate for kids. I pray that he changes that in Transformers 3.
Wadey09 - 10/15/2009, 10:57 AM
Do the damn thang Favreau he should direct the Avengers who else is worthy WHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????
MrAnonymous - 10/15/2009, 10:57 AM
mmmmmmm.......... Scarlett in tights!!! lol.
gambitfreak - 10/15/2009, 11:06 AM
Jon Favreau is the best director the likes of which I have ever known.

He has competition from James Cameron, however.

:D
Hanzogamer - 10/15/2009, 11:32 AM
I cant wait for this movie thats for sure! Still, I wish they'd hurry up and release a teaser trailer...now THAT would get me really excited!!!
JoshW - 10/15/2009, 11:57 AM
Assassin@ since they have called "the ten rings" the terrorists on IM1... :-p
MisterFixit - 10/15/2009, 12:02 PM
Fav isn't my favorite director of all time, but he's close!

And he's definitely my favorite CBM director.

Of course Nolan is close and Raimi WAS....until Spidey 3....I'm still hoping he'll make up for that with 4. :)
Runefyst - 10/15/2009, 12:26 PM
nah, Faveau needs a change of heart in regards to magic-like powers in order to do the Mandarin. Then again, money talks.
soforizo - 10/15/2009, 12:27 PM
something tells me this is gonna be a disaster like spiderman 3, i don't know why i feel this way about it, i like the first iron man, but the hype is crushing my confidence.
Misterfan - 10/15/2009, 12:29 PM
I cant wait, Iron Man 2 is gonna be awesome and it will be nice to see a good movie after Wolverine [frick]ing up
dancingmonkey08 - 10/15/2009, 12:50 PM
What about Louis Leterrier, the director for The Incredible Hulk
InSpace - 10/15/2009, 1:07 PM
DANCING @ Tell me about it!! ; )
LEEE777 - 10/15/2009, 1:08 PM
I hope a good movie of the a.s.s.h.o.l.e favreu.
I prefer epic and spectacular like MICHAEL BAY.
OSCURO - 10/15/2009, 1:23 PM
It seemed that last part about not insulting adults' intellegence and kids being able to watch it is a direct attack towards Michael Bay's philosophy on movie making...which is SUCKING.
Macksimus - 10/15/2009, 1:34 PM
war machine vs iron man has to occur with a future mandarin setup!!!...maybe we get hints towards avengers...hopefully a cameo or 2...no crimson dynamo so fav better bring the heat with his whiplash villain
Anil Rickly - 10/15/2009, 2:03 PM
OSCURO- Bay? Epic? Spectacular? I see clearly that you spent your time between the short bus, and facing the corner of the class room. Let me guess a relative of supermike, or just a new breed of moron?
ASSASSIN666 - 10/15/2009, 2:09 PM
@SUPERMIKE-

You can change your name, you can change your profile pic, BUT YOU CAN'T change your grammar......OSCURO!!!
Talontd - 10/15/2009, 2:35 PM
they better not pull a spiderman 3 with war machine
kenji540 - 10/15/2009, 2:55 PM
Now that comment was f**king funny!
ASSASSIN666 - 10/15/2009, 3:47 PM
woah woah woah.. waitaminit..

Is this Supermike? "Oscuro"? Really?

Talond, do you honestly think so?
DarthMulder - 10/15/2009, 3:52 PM
I don't know... how would Supermike know to use the cover art for Future Kill, which began life as a painting by HR Giger?

On the other hand he misspelled his bloody screen name, which is highly supermikish. I think he might have been trying to say "Obscuro" lol
DarthMulder - 10/15/2009, 3:56 PM
@ MULDER

i don't know, buddy, i think assassin and talontd are on to something. i've noticed "oscuro"'s posts in other articles, and he does seem VERY supermikey. i'm just waiting for him to call someone's baby ugly. his grammar isn't just bad, its very similar to supermike's. and he just says the same kind of things. he just needs to say, "if this were japn animay it woodbe cool"

and bravo on the HR Giger!!!!
CorndogBurglar - 10/15/2009, 4:16 PM
LOL!! And Bravo to you on the perfect approximation of Supermike language, Corndogburgler.

I am just waiting to hear the inevitable comment about how no comic books should be made into movies. That one used to annoy me pretty badly
DarthMulder - 10/15/2009, 4:35 PM
John Favreau for Captain America.

...for Barbarella.

...for Jansen's Ankles.

... for President.
Skyh00k - 10/15/2009, 4:40 PM
Corndog- The force is strong with you.
ASSASSIN666 - 10/15/2009, 4:58 PM
This is turning out to be another The Dark Knight!!!!!

WHOOP DEE DOOOOOOO YAYYYYYYYYYY :D

Fartman - 10/15/2009, 7:49 PM
lol. fartman.

wow.
Keven - 10/15/2009, 8:13 PM
@ASSASSIN/Darth/CDB: If it wasn't for supermike, I wouldn't HAVE an account on this site. After I read his "no comic should make into a movie" comment I just HAD to jump into the conversation :)

Thank you supermike, wherever you are!
MultiPurposePoni - 10/15/2009, 10:16 PM
SUPERMIKE IS BRETT RATNER!!!!
wards - 10/16/2009, 3:26 AM
Ehy guys, just a small curiosity. From when you have begun to use "bravo"? Is a term of common use? LoL i like when you use it
MisterFixit - 10/16/2009, 6:24 AM
Im just hopeful...im not gonna big Fav up too much till i see the sequel :)
teabag - 10/16/2009, 6:50 AM
@Wards: Well at least they seem to think alike anyway. But once you have seen the supermike home videos you kind of have to realize that Ratner, being the visionless bufoon ass hat that he is, still talks like an adult, is not a web troll, and can actually write in complete sentences. For that reason I don't think they are the same person.

@ FartMan: yep that was a pretty strange comment. I don't get it mang, no offense.

@ Misterfixit: The use of the interjection bravo as an expression of apporoval has long been a part of the English language. It's away of saying "well done"; often in response to a dramatic performance or in sports. Why do you ask?

@ MPP: how about that! Some good actually came out of Supermikes reign of harrassment! Well supes, if your reading, ya did us a solid on that one LOL
DarthMulder - 10/16/2009, 6:54 AM
Darth@ i'm italian and here more or less it has the same acception. I really didn't know that now you use it :-) funny but enjoyable for an italian. Bravi! :-)
MisterFixit - 10/16/2009, 7:09 AM
